We spent 2 nights recently 3-5 Feb at the Lodge in a privately owned unit , 210 . The views from the Unit over the Breede River were magical as well as the sunsets which you able to see from the on site restaurant , Spasie . 

It was easy to check in & access the Lodge at any time with a remote controlled gate , so parking was pretty secure.

There are a few activities that can be arranged view the Activities kiosk or they give you contact info should you want to do a river cruise , fishing etc 

The on site restaurant was also very convenient & had a generator for loadshedding so we were able to watch the football.

In general the premises were neat & clean & there was a small pool for use as well

On the River

We spent a night recently and found the resort to be in need of maintenance and love. Paint peeling off the walls, rooms freezing cold and musty. Not a very pleasant experience. Staff not at all helpful when we needed assistance with a tyre issue. The manager at the restaurant, Gregg, however was absolutely amazing. He immediately offered to drive the 30km to Heidelberg to sort a new tyre for us. Fortunately we did not need it, but it was very kind. The restaurant is individually run and seemed lovely although I think the rest of the resort needs help

Tired and in need of TLC

We took advantage of the midweek "three nights for the price of two" special and were very happy with the room we were given which had a lovely river and sea view.  
We used the hotel as a base for travelling to de Hoop nature reserve which we did every day; a round trip of 110 km which included a ride on the Malgas ferry each time. The hotel was very quiet during the week but seems to come alive at weekends when the out-of-town visitors arrive.  The restaurant at the hotel was very quiet and we had a pizza which was OK. I was also there on a previous occasion three years ago when the restaurant was managed by the hotel [I understand]  and the menu was much more extensive with steaks etc all on offer. It's now much more limited.

Visiting de Hoop

My wife Sharon and I spent four nights in Wilderness at the end of January and on our way we broke our trip with an overnight stay at the Breede River Lodge in Witsand. 

The greeting at reception was pleasant, and the checking in process was quick.

I was expecting a basic self catering unit, but was very pleasantly surprised when we entered our unit. There was a toilet / shower and a big bedroom, which had a balcony with a view of the river on the ground floor, and then, up the stairs, we were met by a large living room cum kitchen, with a balcony that had an even better view of the river.

The unit was clean, and we had everything that we needed, and the only reason I did not give a five star rating was because of the awful food that we were served at the on-site Pili Pili restaurant. 

I know that the restaurant is independent of the Lodge, but the owners of the Lodge should really keep an eye on the food that is being served to their guests.

I had an extremely bland vegetarian pizza, which cost a whopping R144, and Sharon had Eisbein which she described as dry, hard and tasteless. The Eisbein was served with a small soggy salad which our waitress admitted to us had been prepared earlier that morning, more than eight hours before it was served to Sharon.

I would very highly recommend a stay at the Breede River Lodge, but I would suggest that you have your meals elsewhere.

EXPECTATIONS EXCEEDED

Very good. Just the problem with the bird droppings on the plastic chair and table on the balcon and a bit stuffy when entered the first time. 
Perhaps staff can check outside furniture on a regular basis and open rooms for air regularly

All Went very well, we enjoyed our short stay.will do it again, was very impressed with room and lodge. and Pililpili restaurant.
Staff very friendly. Food great. Information in room very informative, well done.

Misleading advertising on Bookings.com , had to upgrade at cost to the unit I had booked as supposedly the other one was a Fisherman’s Cottage , well then advertise it with that name ! Having stayed here on several occasions it is noticeable that there is no maintenance being done and the unit stayed in certainly needs it !

Downward Spiral

Everything you need, and could want, for a stay at the Breede River mouth.  Stayed in the Fisherman’s cottage which has a kitchenette with microwave and kettle. I honestly cannot think of anything more to say. 

Ticks all the boxes

Lovely tranquil area, tucked away from prevailing winds to be able to enjoy the views from your balcony. Safe and secure, staff friendly and always willing to help. Fishing spots are great and locals willing to share there knowledge. Just was a not so well equipped in the kitchen for the self catering.

Quick 2 day break

positive, nothing negative but small things such as an available trolley and assistance with luggage will be appreciated. The specific unit next to the water's edge allowed for a quiet and peaceful sleep sensation.
