Ordinary hotels can be hard to identify in Korea unless you can read Hangul, but that's never a problem with flamboyant love motels such as the J Motel in Gyongju - one of a dozen or so on the street just behind the coach station (or a 20 minute walk from the rail station trundling a suitcase). "Motel" in English is on prominent display on all of them (as it is throughout the country) and it is even better at night, when they compete for the most spectacular neon display.  In Gyongju I would guess that it is rarely necessary to book, except maybe during the festival, because of the sheer number of motel rooms in this and nearby streets.  Judging from the room pictures on display outside, many of them are of a similar high standard.  Our room in the J Motel was spotlessly clean, with a large comfy bed, a monster flat-screen TV, mood-lighting, a monsoon shower, an electric toilet, and a large separate jacuzzi bath with its own TV screen.  A sense of fun is needed to fully appreciate the decor (we had one of the rooms decorated with zebras).  You may not find a use for all the contents of the goody-bag but at a cost of 50,000 Won (just less than £30) the room was of similar quality to our £200+ room in one of the international Seoul hotels.  The nice lady at reception speaks very little English, but was clearly very proud of the motel.  The word "room" seems to be generally understood by non-English speakers and beyond that, sign language is enough.  Cycle hire just along the street offers a good way to explore the city and outlying attractions - it's relatively safe to cycle here and there are plenty of cycle paths.  No hotel restaurant, but there are plenty of places to eat within a few minutes walk, or you can send out for a pizza or similar.  If, like us, you enjoy kitch and comfort don't miss the J Motel in this pleasant city.  Highly recommended.

Sense of fun!

The hotel is about 3 mins walk from inter coty bus terminal and lots of shops and restaurants on the street! Down town is a few minutes walk away which is a lively busy town centre with lots of interesting shops and a great market for food near the rail station. A fab town in lovely mountainous location with amazing ruins, temples and sights in bus or walking distance! Hotel room was good with kettle fridge etc One hair in shower but not a big drama - beds pristine and lots of funky lighting huge tv and usual love motel stuff! Stayed with husband and son in a triple room which had a double and a single bed - very comfy and good aircon Had no real contact with staff other than check in which was quick and easy Good value and great location! 

Loved the location fun high tech room

Ok - let's say it as it is, this hotel is a love hotel that can be a short stay or not.  After an issue with another hotel that we had booked we ended up here.  While the staff don't speak fluent English they were still very helpful.  We stayed for 3 nights in the large Coffee Shop themed room(most appropriate for South Korea) and it was really clean and comfortable.  There were two PC's a TV in front of a two person bath, a huge TV in front of the King size bed, a huge mirror on the roof that could open up to the sky, a phone charger and WiFi oh and lots of "personal products".  The only problem we had was the very small bath towels.  It is a short walk from the train station and is centrally located.

LOVEly Hotel

We choose J Motel for two reasons: Good location and nice pictures in booking.com. First the only negative point: Staff is nice and tries to help but we had some little hickup with our booking.com-reservation  since the hotel staff does not speak english. 
Apart from that we had a great stay at an excellent price (during the week it is cheaper). The rooms are huge with lots of items that fall under the category of asian kitsch: Huge TV, fridge (with free refill), glass-sterilizer, hair-dryer with hair-iron, asian style toilet, computer, colored lamps etc. etc. The interior is colorful and very creative: Colorful wall papers, shower with TV and "couch", Mirrors everywhere. These types of motels are usually rented by couples for short stays which do not include sleeping and so, towels are small, blankets are few. 
However, this Motel motels is one of the modern types which caters also to a presumed female taste, so you find lots of pink, lots of mirrors and a generally cozy atmosphere which perfectly suits any tourist with an open mind.  Noise was not a problem at all.
