Loved the Korean-styled breakfast, it completes the stay in a Hanok. Attached bathroom is a comfort to have. Great location, only 3 mins walk to Anguk subway station and property is in a lovely neighborhood. Easy to walk around the area to Bukchon and Samcheongdong. Friendly host too. The only setback was the Aircon compressor was located just behind the fridge, very was noisy especially when nights are quiet, making it hard to sleep. 

Great stay in a lovely neighbourhood

We had a great experience staying at the KunDaeMunJip. At first, I was a little worried because there was no mattress in the room. To my surprise, the mats provided was very comfortable and the breakfast was very good. Customer service was also good. We stayed for 2nights and I think that was enough to get a feel of the guest houses in South Korea. The location was convenient, short walk to the subway station and airport buses. It does get very quite at night in the allies nearby... but it did feel safe. You can actually use google map and look inside the guest house! Book early and get a room with a private bathroom.

Very different from a hotel

The place was nice and it brought us back to the ancient Korea with traditional architecture as well as the tatami (with heat because it was winter!). Host is nice and breakfast is great. If you wanna try a traditional Korean style, it would be your one of your best choice.

p.s. You may also hang around. There are a lot of traditional housings and they are all famous of those you watch in the Korean drama.

We enjoyed a lovely two-night stay at Kundaemunjip Hanok guesthouse. The staff was very nice, provided us with maps, and gracefully forgave us for oversleeping breakfast the second morning! 

The location is fantastic. You are right in the heart of the historic and hip Bukchon/Jongno-gu district, and a beautiful walk down Insadong-gil to the Cheong-gye river walk and urban downtown areas. 

The courtyard is beautifully landscaped and meticulously tended. The rooms are clean. We stayed in the villa by the main gate. Be careful of the tile in the floor of the bath. It was slippery and we placed a towel on the shower floor to compensate. Also, there was a bit of mildew on the sealant behind the sink which should be replaced. The general cleanliness otherwise, was excellent. There was plenty of hot water, but the shower temperature fluctuated during the shower. I looked in the bath located off the main living area, and it was more recently done and perfectly clean. 

Korean Hanoks, unlike their Japanese counterparts, do not come with tatami mats. So, if you're used to sleeping on a thin futon in Japan, you're going to notice a difference with that same futon in Korea, with a wood floor beneath. To balance this, the room we stayed in also had a 'Murphy Bed' which could be pulled down from the wall. An excellent idea. You'll find a comfortable sleep either way with this very thoughtful amenity.  The heating was under-floor, which was nice. 

All and all, I recommend this Hanok, and I would easily stay here again. It's popular, but quiet, perfectly located, and quite charming. If you are used to staying in a more high-end commercial hotel, and looking for something more memorable and more historic, I really recommend you try this. You gain the historic quality without loosing all of the amenities of a commercial hotel property.

Best Location!

I was a little nervous about staying in a guesthouse without all the services of a hotel, but in the end, we were so glad we did.  The traditional Korean hanok gave us the feeling of being in an authentic home in a residential area, but also provided modern conveniences like a private bathrooms and free wi-fi.  The location was excellent in a great neighborhood and walking distance of palaces, Insadong, numerous local eateries, Line 3 Anguk subway station and a bowling alley.  The owner was very accommodating and helpful.  The price was higher than other hanoks, but I felt it was worth the extra money for the cleanliness, modern bathrooms, good breakfast and English-speaking owner. You're not saving money by staying here rather than in a hotel, but if you're looking for a traditional experience, this is a great choice.  My three teenage boys loved the place, the neighborhood and the owner. They didn't even complain about the lack of TV and we felt comfortable letting them walk around the neighborhood for food, jogging, etc.  This freedom gave them a view of living in an authentic neighborhood was a real plus for them.  The only things that could be construed as negatives (but weren't for us) is the noise due to thin walls and doors; and the lack of choice in breakfast (the owner makes 1 or 2 dishes, which were delicious, but if you want a lot of choices, you won't find it here).  Overall, it was a great and memorable experience.
