Coming from Busan where we had the pleasure of staying in two love hotels, we arrived at Seoul's Artview Hotel full of optimism. After a warm welcome in the hotel manager's office on the second floor, we were handed our room keys and set off to our slumber. There were four of us, so we had two rooms booked on the third floor. We entered our rooms to a face full of heat and a bed almost immediately at our shins. It was test time.

The bed: ideal if you're into mattresses that feel like you have six Korean men pushing their knuckles into your back.

The bathroom: no bigger than a typical shower cubicle, Artview has managed to squeeze a toilet, sink and shower (connected to the sink) into such a small space. The glass shower screen also makes it perfect for those who'd like to watch the person they're bunking with shower, poo and/or wee.

The electricity: avoid plugging anything in too fast, as sparks will almost certainly fly. Also, if you're sleeping wall side, stay to the left to avoid electric shocks throughout the night.

The towels: you're probably best off using these as a mattress topper, either that or sanding down a fresh piece of timber into something useful. Like an axe to get out or something.

Noise: having rooms adjacent to our fellow travellers wasn't only ideal as we were only a few steps away, but the walls were so thin we could have a coherent conversation with ease. While our neighbour's coughing would frighten me awake from time-to-time (and ultimately give me a back burn from my sudden movement on the towel I was laid on) it was a handy reminder that our friends were still close by.

Wi-Fi: great if you're pinned up against the wall, bad if you aren't.

Location: good location.

Overall: nothing like the pictures and more-or-less no art on view, but perfect if you're looking for a hotel to see out the rest of your days alone and upset x

Am I living in a box?

room provided for us is really small.  no space to place our luggages. comfort rooms wall and door are see through so if you're travelling with a friend then be prepared.  they do clean the rooms everyday but they dont sweep under the bed.  😬
if you're looking for a place to sleep then this will do but make sure to limit your expectations.

This is a hotel mainly used by students so I cannot com0lain too much as it’s a case of pay what you get. This hotel is better suited for a solo traveller as it can get a bit cramped if there are two of you. Well worth a few nights, but that’s it. Need to improve on the breakfast.

Great location

This hotel is not far from restaurants and shops. There is a bus from the airport to the city and then a short walk to the hotel. However the room could be a little updated. But.. you get what you pay for.

Great value for money

Good hotel in a really good location.

Easy to access both airports by bus and short walk or by two metro trains.

Very close walk to center of many shops, and restaurants.

Also good point to walk to all main attractions.

The room was small and basic but all we needed.

Staff very friendly and polite.

Great hotel

The room is tiny but the price says it all, generally it is clean, so i dont really mind. 

The check in experience is smooth and they provide excellent concierge service, Roh Selim from reception is most helpful. All questions and requests heard and addressed properly.

Warm customer service

I stayed here with my father. After getting to our room we realised that the room was laughably small. We changed to a slightly bigger room which gave us the ability to walk between our beds (one at a time). If you are planning a visit here you will be giving up your privacy to the person you are staying with. The attached image is the view you get from outside the toilet/shower. As you can see the view is comparable to the blurring you see for graphic content on the TV.

The beds are hard. So hard I questioned whether the pilot had dropped us off in the wrong Korea. Do be warned as we were not,  the toilets will not take toilet paper so you are provided with what we dubbed as the "dump bucket".

They say they have a lift and that the front desk is open 24 hours. This is all a lie. There isn't even a broken lift just steps. I sound lazy but the city requires more walking than anywhere else I have been and the last thing you want to do when you have been walking for hours is face the mountain of steps to your room. 

We did not get to try the breakfast as we left a few days early due to the room being so bad so I cannot comment on it.

The WiFi they describe unlike the lift does exist but it is unstable and slow. So slow in fact that s previous guest had changed their rooms WiFi name from "the artview" to "the artview has slow WiFi" which is scarily accurate.

The single redeeming factor for this place, and the reason my rating is as high as 2 stars is the location. It's very close to the main part of town. 

When you search the for this "hotel" on navermaps (basically Google maps but it works better in korea) it actually lists it as a hostel. I think if I went into it expecting a hostel it would have been less of a disappointment.

In conclusion I recommend spending  the extra money on a proper hotel.
