This is my first hanok stay experience and I am pleased to say that Gowoondang exceeded all of my expectations. The owner, Mr Kim, is very warm and helpful - he speaks excellent English and Chinese as well as Korean, and kindly accommodated our request for an early check-in. We stayed in the Pink room which is located in a satellite building (also a traditional hanok) just across the road from the main premises and comes with a modern en-suite bathroom; our lodgings as well as the entire premises are tidy and spotless with the common area/kitchen just a few steps away where delicious breakfast is served in the morning. Location is excellent: the hanok is just a 5-10 minutes' walk away from Gyeongbokgung Palace and the station, making it ideal for first-time visitors to Seoul. Although we were there in winter, the underfloor heating kept the room nice and toasty at all times. I would definitely return here if I am ever back in Seoul.

Lovely hanok stay with warm & accommodating host

This place was exactly what I was looking for, traditional Korean house near the main attractions in Seoul. The owner and his wife are great host, they made my stay memorable. They very welcoming people and they make really good traditional breakfast. I stayed in Seoul for two nights and I loved this place, only few minutes away from the Seoul Metro "Gyeongbokgung" station. It's cozy, clean, neat and located in a really cool part of the city. Good thing to note is that the washroom are shared. I would definitely stay here again whenever I have the chance to visit this beautiful city again.

Great stay in Korea at a traditional Guesthouse

Stayed here in April 2013. We checked into this hanok for one night but would love to spend more days there if possible. The owner speaks good English and were hospitable. 

Futons and heated blanket were provided at night - of which the owner has prepared for us before we got back in the evening. The only drawback is that the bathroom for certain rooms are located outside (on sharing basis, but very clean) and one needs to leave the room to use the bathroom /shower. One needs to endure the cold during winter period to walk out but again, is part of the Hanok experience. The owner (family) has been accommodating but not intrusive. We also enjoyed the breakfast (Korean) prepared by the wife of the owner in the morning.

Hanok experience with good location

This is the perfect place if you're interested to experience traditional hanok as part of your visit to Seoul. Great location - very near to Gyeongbokgung Palace and just 5 mins walk to the subway. Convenient to visit other popular sights like Myeongdong, N Seoul Tower, Erwa University... The guesthouse keeps the traditional sense well while manages to provide you strong and free wifi and good A/C. Not to mention the breakfast provided was homemade and tasted delicious. The owner could speak different languages (Korean, English, Chinese, Japanese...) and was definitely caring and supportive. Worth mentioning is that if you plan to reach the guesthouse after dark, it could be a challenge to find as it's in an alley. Prior research of location is definitely recommended.

Perfect experience of Hanok in Seoul

There are many excellent reviews and I am not going to repeat the same thing. None of them is a lie. Great owner, breakfast, fast wifi, location, etc.
Just to add in a very important info; u can easily reach by subway line 3 gyeongbokgung (orange color line) and take exit no.3
Out of the stairs, just walk straight about 5-10mins until u can see a "wooribank" at the opposite. There is a little road on your right, go in, u will find a european restaurant, turn left 5steps, and turn your head to the right. That's it. Follow my instruction and u wont get lost.
