This place is perfect, so long as you know what it is and isn't.  The name tells you, it is rural.  We are talking hillside, rough drive past some cows and goats, but o ce you get there....very cute house. Beautiful views.  Comfortable rooms, very clean, nice bed and shower.  Balconies to look at horses and orchards.

Amazingly, in 10-12 minutes you can be in San Sebastian.  It doesn't feel that way but we did it everyday, very easy drive.
 

If you want a downtown hotel, this is not for you, but we much prefer this.  

Mikael was great, speaks English fluently and gave us good ideas. His son speaks Spanish but is adorable and also had fun ideas for us.  

If you were going in cider season this place is a must, cider orchards all around you could walk to most.  Any other time it is still a great value.

On side note we had no problem with Wi-Fi.  Skyped our kids and downloaded zone music for our drive with no issiu

Awesome spot, great people

Our stay with Mikel and Ainhoa was fantastic! Their home is beautiful and clean and they  are super accommodating. We would recommend it to anyone! Close to San Sebastian and easy access to coast and interior. Host was very knowledgeable and glad to share tons of information.

Beautiful home in the countryside

Kaxkarre is a beautiful place, high in the mountains above San Sebastian but very close by car. The view is breath taking. 
Be advised that the drive up is steep and narrow, but in our experience very easily accessible (we drove a large car). 
The rooms were very clean and comfortable, while keeping the "country style" feeling.
Breakfast in the porch was rich and tasty. 
Best of all - Mikel and Anihoa are wonderful hosts - friendly and attentive to all we asked. As other guests already mentioned, the possibility of good communication in English is very helpful. 
All in all, a wonderful, family feeling and a place we will be very happy to visit again.

An amazing place to stay

Mikel and Ainhoa are amazing hosts. They made us feel at home as soon as we arrived. The location is beautiful and the views from the terrace are stunning. The room was spacious, comfortable and tastefully decorated. The building and grounds feel as if they are from another age. Walking thru the front door transports you. The restoration they have done is flawless. The beams are enormous, the doors ancient and the fireplace inviting. Check in was simple and Mikel provided us with maps, directions and suggestions. He also made reservations at a cider house and helped with a taxi situation we were having. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom large and well stocked. The included breakfast was always ready when scheduled. There was fresh fruit, a variety of warm bread, juice, jams, coffee and tea. For a traditional breakfast rub the bread with garlic, then add the tomato and drizzle with olive oil. It is a short walk up the road into hills, pastures and orchards and a short drive into San Sebastian for beautiful beaches and pinxtos. Try Zeruko for an amazing experience. I can't imagine a better place to stay in Basque country. Highly recommend. If we are fortunate enough to return we will stay at Casa Rural Kaxkarre.

Only wish we had scheduled a longer stay.

We had a very large family bedroom with a very large balcony with stunning views.  We were made very welcome and looked after well with a good breakfast.  We would definitely stay here again in this lovely home.
