my second visit to this place, very high standard of cleanliness, friendly helpful staff, nice clean pools with plenty of loungers, and towels always available, has a nice spa, and well equipped gym,  nice and quiet complex, decent entertainment in the evening, good variety of food, although found the breakfast food not as warm as was expected, a microwave was available to heat it up if required. a 20-25 minute walk to the beach, plenty of taxis available to bring you back, did get quite windy late afternoons, poolside bar was good. Amstel beer supplied was cold, and tasted ok.

a nice relaxing hotel

Ignore the bad reviews, the hotel is very nice, the staff is attentive and helpful. The food is delicious and varied. To the ocean to walk exactly 20 minutes with a quiet walk. Rooms are neat, cleaning every day. We are very satisfied with our vacation in this hotel, although the reviews about it were alarming. I recommend it to everyone!

Ignore the bad reviews, the hotel is very nice

Staff are very helpful and friendly. Rooms are fresh and clean. Food is varied, which is great for gluten free options. All inclusive was a good option. Entertainment is on every night, if your interested. You have to rent a beach towel €10 and also plastic cup by the pool €1. The easyjet rep was very informative and helpful. Beds comfortable. The beds are single beds together.
Location is a bit away from other areas and on a hill if you have mobility issues. There are scooters directly outside, if adventurous.
We Loved that it was adults only. Although a select few could have been cut off the free booze  for their own safety. We had a lovely relaxing stay. The whole area even further on down the location does not have much in the way of restaurants or entertainment, so you in Amy of the hotels in this location rely heavily on their services. We would recommend booking some day trips, if your gig is not just sitting by a pool. 

Relaxing, clean and all inclusive was a good deal. 

I brought myself here for my 60th birthday and I had the loveliest time.
The receptionist staff were friendly and obliging. My room was ready when I got there and it was lovely and clean and overlooked the pools. It was a great little sun trap in the afternoons, with a lovely view of the sunset.
I hired a kettle for the week so I could have a cup of tea in the morning. I brought my own tea bags and was able to get milk in the little shop.
I also had 1 hour free in the spa every day, which was great especially when the days were cloudy. The sauna, steam room and swimming pool were so relaxing. They supply a towel for your session. I also booked a hot oil massage for my birthday and it was so soothing, I would totally recommend it.
I  only booked half board as I didn’t think I would use all inclusive . It suited me and breakfast was very varied and tasty and the evening meal was also as varied with different themes every night. 
I would also recommend the naturist area which was on the roof but secluded. It had a shower and sun beds, while I was there I think it was mainly British people so often I was the only one using it, which was good for me.
I used the pools in the afternoon and much preferred the unheated pool as it was bigger.
All the staff were friendly and I was even left a bottle of sparkling wine in my room on my birthday which was very much appreciated.
The rooms were cleaned daily which was also very welcome and not expected.
I didn’t partake of any evening entertainment but there seemed to be a great variety.
I didn’t venture to the beach this time as I was told it was a long walk and frankly couldn’t be arsed as I had everything I needed at the hotel.
I would love to come back sometime and would recommend it highly.

A lovely, relaxing stay

I really enjoyed my stay at Matas Blancas in Fuertaventura! The hotel was clean and the staff were all really friendly! And all of the other guests were very friendly too! I went there with my mum and it was such a relaxing atmosphere! And Ricardo (who was in charge of entertainment) was excellent!  I thoroughly recommend it!

I just enjoyed a lovely holiday at this hotel in Costa Calma. The food was wonderful ( other guests moaned that we weren’t in a restaurant- but we thought it was fine. ) The rooms were great we loved the comfortable beds and the hot strong showers. They were spotless. We really appreciated that one of the outside pools was heated and swam over 1km each day. The spa was a really boon , we all had a back massage and really thought the masseuse was very skillful. The only drawback was as that on the last day my friend went down with a Nora virus and was very unwell. I also succumbed to this violent sickness bug the day after returning. This spoilt a lovely holiday.

Great time had until the end - marred by illness which could have happened anywhere.

Stayed here for the first two weeks of July. Overall a nice hotel that with a few tweaks good a lovely hotel. 

Room :  our pool level room was clean and overall pretty good. Never had to ask for clean towels or bedding they were just done.  It was  kept clean and swept but somedays the bathroom wasn’t straightened up, towels where  we’d left them hanging etc.  We had an issue with the air con, spoke to the manager and she sorted it immediately. We had the air con 24/7 and the key was never removed by staff. 

Food:  on the whole good, some weird combos like Sunday carrots served for breakfast on Monday morning. The chef could certainly cook meat never has a tough, over cooked piece of meat, chicken or duck in the entire two weeks. Week two was a repeat of week one however and there are no other restaurants on site. Breakfast anything from full English to fresh fruit, pastries (mini croissants were delicious)  to continental meats and cheeses. 

Poolside: plenty of bed and no stupid o’clock up to secure one. There were always beds available. All three pools are cold and I mean dead cold it was some of the best entertainment, watching people trying to get in to them. 

Entertainment:  limited day and night. Bingo and karaoke where the main stays. But the young entertainment man (yes only one) worked his socks off and was a lovely guy. 

Staff:  most of them were friendly and happy to help. One bar man in particular was miserable and a bit surly. The reception staff were brilliant Manuel was the star and the manager super helpful, frequently seen working behind reception as well as in and  around the hotel at night. She will go along way. The youngest of the  team Jose was great and a blossoming asset to the team he has a great career ahead of him. 

What could make all the difference: wash the pool deck every evening, not just spot mopping, clean the poolside tables and provide more of them. Stick, dirty  tables make it look shabby. Clean the glass divide between two of the pools, dirty glass makes it look shabby. Clean the glass around the balcony of the terrace bar. Empty the small bins in the corridors frequently and brush the debris from the trees up on a regular basis, maybe twice a day.  

None of these issues spot the holiday but would change the overall feel of the hotel and make into a really good hotel. Little changes would make a huge difference.

Just missing the mark

Do not be put off by the negative reviews, this hotel and the facilities are great. 

Location
The area is quiet and up a slight hill however the shops and bars are easily walkable in around 25
Minutes. Taxis are €7 if walking is not for you. The little town has plenty of restaurants and a few bars. Rapa Nui SurfBar is great for cocktails and drinks and Bar El Marko is fab for Tapas. The beach near to the hotel is a bit rocky but if you walk along to the right, it’s lovely and there’s a beach bar. The shops are ok, nothing special. There’s a couple of large Spa shops and plenty of ‘holiday tat’ shops. 

Pool
Do not set an alarm for sunbeds, they’re plentiful all day long. We were a family of 6 and never struggled to get beds together at all. The pools are cold but lovely. The music is not loud if you sit by the top pool and you’re more covered from the wind….it is windy! The pool bar is great and I never waited more than two people in front of me for a drink. 

Food and drink
Pool bar is great and the staff are lovely. Ruth makes a drink that is to die for…ask for a Ruth special. 
Main bar is also great and Sallami is a lovely, happy chap who makes another great ‘off menu’ special cocktail. All staff are lovely if you smile and converse with them. Drinks are not watered down as some have suggested. 
Snack bar is just that, hotdogs, burgers, fries, salad, pastries and Ice-cream - it’s not a Michelin star snack bar, it’s an all inclusive one and serves its purpose. 
Restaurant - again, this is an all inclusive three star. The food is basic but completely fine. We ate out three times in 10 nights but when at the restaurant, all found food that was fine and never cold. The plates could do with warming for the hot options but it’s not a deal breaker. Breakfast is fab  (toaster tip…. Put your bread through three times!!) 

Entertainment 
Alejandro is on his own and does a great job of the daytime entertainment which consists of the usual activities…. Volley ball, darts, stjollen, ping pong etc.. 
the evening entertainment is basic and upstairs in another bar. We did a few quizzes and listened to some of the music acts. The main bar is fine and there’s usually people playing cards and chatting. 

Hotel
We were in rooms 105-107 and these were straight onto the pool area. Rooms are clean and fairly modern. The air con is terrible! We slept with the windows open (there are no mosquitoes as it’s too windy). You get a fridge but no kettle of iron so I’d take your own as we did. Hairdryer was rubbish too so again, take your own if you need.

Spa 
We got a free pass with Jet 2 and we did use it. The facilities are great to pass a few hours. Didn’t have any treatments but they look to be reasonably priced. 

All in all, we had a great break away with our older teenage children. There are some single people here (it’s advertised as a solo hotel) but there was no signs of swingers at all. Would I return, probably not…the Canaries have never stolen my heart and I’ve now ticked the box of  Fuerteventura.

Great hotel in a quiet location

Loads of people were complaining about this place but I was honestly very pleasantly surprised for a 3 star hotel. 

I don’t know if everyone was expecting 5 star service but I personally really liked the place. 
- rooms were modern and clean (shower did run onto the bathroom floor due to the design but the front desk gave more towels to lay day) 
-the pools were clean and the area around them, pool bar area clean and staff attentive 
- snack bar all day food with burgers ect. Basic food but if you just want a snack no issues 
- food in the restaurant was hit and miss some days it was fantastic (I had an amazing piece of salmon one night) and some days it was ok, sometimes a little cold but it’s say 8/10 times it was good. 
- nice selection of drinks at the bar 
- hotel staff friendly 

If I were to come back to would stay here. 
The gym and spa were closed for unknown reasons. 

Towel service for the pool was easy.

Clean and easy stay

Really nice hotel, staff are lovely, couldn't fault it. The food was fine, I love fish and it was cooked on the grill every evening and it was so good. The room was fine, very spacious and very clean. I will be back next December.
