Well were do we start. Day of arrival the place is not sign posted and it was just lucky that a stag do was walking though a miniature door when we arrived. The reception is 3 floors up and also not sign posted. But this was merely the start of the worst which was to come. Our room was 4 flights of stairs up (no lift so be prepared for a hike), and there was no fire exits to be seen. There is no air conditioning and the cooling system was simply a broken fan which would destabilise in the night and wake us up with loud bangs. So yes out of the 4 nights not one was a pleasant temperature. Next I'll address the shower,they were not fixed to the wall and was merely a drissle out of the head. Next even though the hostel has a no noise past 10 policy other guests seemed to think that chatting and smoking outside out bedroom door at 3AM until 7AM was acceptable. Also on the bathrooms the only lock was on the outside of the door. And finally to top off this trip there was a power cut in the final night in which no staff were contactable and the already crappy fan was then out of order along with all other electricity.

But to be fair the location is ideal and the sheets etc were clean along with the rest of the appartments.

Just not great

I had a reservation from April 28 to May 2, 3 nights, but I stayed for only 2 nights because of the inconspicuous noise from the ground floor bars until 5 am, the very ugly, depressing room I do not recommend to anyone, I think I am and some mites because she ate my skin all the time, the window was permanently blocked without the possibility of airing the room. The worse accommodation unit that I did not see in my life, and I paid 75 euros per night

Horrible

It IS located in the gothic area whi h IS a great location. We stayed in a room with 1 King size bed which was not that bad. The kitchen needs some work, bathrooms are quite ok but water gets cold sometimes through showering. The stairs can be a little too much especially if u come "home" at the middle of the night. 

Great location, needs work

Staying there in winter with no heating and hot water only occasionally is an experience not to be forgotten. If I hadn't taken my sleeping bag, it would have been unbearable. The service is also lousy. The only good thing about this hostel is its central location. The rest is silence.

Only for the desperate

I've been staying there for a week. It is hard to find that hostel. There is no sign saying where to enter. Our room was locked with a small padlock!!! There were two bathrooms on our floor: in the smaller one you coudn't lock the door from the inside, so anyone could enter while we were having a shower. In the bigger one there was a broken window... -even in Barcelona, it was too cold to have a shower with an "opened window" in December. Floor in the bathrooms was dirty although toilets (bath, sink, toilet seat) were always clean. There was a problem with electricity - bulbs in the bathroom were blinking every few minutes. Room was stuffy, it was cold there. We had only blankets to cover and it was cold during the night. Bedding was white and clean. On the "booking.com" it is said they have a hairdryer to loan - I borrowed 2, both were broken. Stuff was really ok, they are nice and helpful. When I told them about the broken lock in the bathroom, they fixed it quickly. It is close to the beach, to metro station - location is perfect.
Guy at the reception told us that the buiding is in a disastrous condition, but it was approved for use and that's why they hadn't closed the hostel yet... It is very loud from the street, which is full of pubs, bars. It is easy to meet there people who offer you any illegal remedys you like.
It is very cheap, but I think I don't want to go back there.

It could have been better

There is nothing really exceptional about this hostel apart from its location. The rooms, amenities (kitchen, bathroom, WiFi) and staff are all fine (one member of the staff from El Salvador is lovely!). Don’t expect anything incredible and this place won’t let you down. For the price there is little to complain about. 

Simple, clean, functional 

Stayed here for a 1 night period last week. Ideally located next to the main Gothic quarter and the harbour,easy to find, "29" written on doors.
Lovely building, room is located on 7th floor, staff were grand, no sh!te, wanted a place to lay the head and it was sound
After a few cans a bed's a bed!
Can't beat the price

Tremendous location

This is the worst place I’ve ever stayed! Location was great and the beds and the pillows were good, the cleanliness was good.

The male staff are rude and dismissive. Over the period we stayed there was a kitchenette with a washing machine and dryer (guests are not able to use them) the staff use them to was all the hostel washing - so all through the night every one - two hours the male staff member would come up slamming the doors, turning on the lights and even yapping on his cell phone. Not to mention people smoking and making noise after the 2300 cut off!!!

They obviously don’t care about the guest having a nice experience there is plenty they could do to increase the comfort 

Do not stay here

Our room was clean, the price was fantastic as for Barcelona. Beds were comfortable, the bedding was also clean. No insects as some people mentioned in their reviews. Almost always there was hot water in the bathrooms. On our floor there were 2 bathrooms and we never had problems with their availability. The staff was really nice and helpful - they were waiting for us even we arrived at the hostel in the middle of the night. The locks were working perfectly in the room, which is also very important. It was a hostel so there was no luxury but everthing was fine, especially for us, as we were only sleeping in the hostel and spend whole days in the city.
Chilly temperature in the room as there was no central heating, however, it was possible to ask for a heater, which was a good solution.

Good place to stay for few days and get some sleep.

The location is unbeatable, right next to the marina and only 20 minutes from the airport. The building is beautiful and the beds were clean and comfortable. We stayed in a private room for 4 with a Juliet balcony overlooking a tranquil street. 

Very good value for money and Hostal manager was polite and helpful. Will be returning!
