Our room was simple, clean and fresh, and kept that way. We were able to see and hear the sea from our room, with a lovely view over San Jose and the surrounding mountains. Sunsets and stars from the balcony!
    It is a short downhill walk to the beach, a bit of a stretch up after a long day. At the bottom of the hill there is an excellent supermarket to the right and two lovely and friendly cafes on the left. San Jose has many eateries, and we found the sea food excellent.
     Our one complaint about the room was the lack of a kettle and use of a fridge. To be able to wake up to a coffee or tea, and to have the means to chill cold drinks would have been perfect.

Sea view

The room was very spacious and had a small kitchen and front terrace. Everything was clean and fresh. The location was good, a little on the side from the beach and boardwalk. Observe though that you need to check in and out at their sister hotel Don Ignacio as this hostal does not have a reception. At Don Ignacio you could also have breakfast and use their pool at an additional cost.
If I were to come to San Jose again I would easily stay at this nice hostal again.

Good location and very nice room

The pension in nicely located just a stone's throw away from the beach. 
The top floors rooms have balconies with a sea view. 
The rooms are basic, but clean and nicely looking. 
WI-fi is sometimes not working, but it is free, and it is in the room.

It is a simple place, but has all you need if you are just looking for a clean and comfy place to sleep, as you spend your days on the beach. 

The reception of the pension is in a nearby Hotel Don Ignacio, so go there first before you arrive to the pension.

Simple, but all-you-need pension with a sea view

We booked for 1 Saturday night and were so impressed with location and quality for low budget at 45€ accommodation that we booked another night for 30€. Will stay here again but need to have an apartment next time as eating out 3 times was too expensive for us. We were only a few minutes down the steps to the beach and even the walk back up the steps or the gentle hill should not put you off other reviews for this hostel.

Good Location & Price

I have spent several relaxing short holidays in San José and this hostel is my absolute favorite. From upstairs rooms you have a magneficant view over the bay, and downstairs rooms have each a cosy little patio. Rooms are basic but with all you can wish for. Bathrooms are very nice with bath tubs. Only minus is the weak WiFi which makes it impossible to login with a laptop. Beach, amenities and little shops are 5-10min walk away.
