La Posada de Cucayo is a lovely hotel in a breathtaking location. From the front door you can walk into a mountain landscape that looks like a set from Lord of the Rings. The family who own the hotel go out of their way to make their guests feel at home and ensure they get the most of their stay. The food is tasty, home cooked and much of it is home grown. It is a very special place.

An amazing place

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at this family run hotel at the end of May 2022. Tina and her sister, Anna, made us feel extremely welcome and went to great efforts to ensure that we had some very good food to eat (we do not typically eat meat). 
The area is one of outstanding beauty for walking, and even the views from the bedroom balcony were breathtaking.
The rooms and bathrooms were very clean and tidy. The beds were comfortable and the hotel was very quiet at night so a good nights sleep was easy to achieve.
I would highly recommend this hotel and we hope to return ourselves!

Excellent!

Wow, what a wonderful place! If you love the mountains and enjoy long walks in stunning wilderness then I can highly recommend this delightful family run hotel that is off the more well trodden routes of the Picos and feels like an unspoilt paradise. 
You are guaranteed a warm welcome from Tina, Alberto and Marisa for whom nothing is too much trouble. The locally sourced food and wine, including meat and eggs from the farm, is excellent and makes this a perfect retreat. Comfortable and clean with views that will take your breath away, add hand drawn maps and plenty of local advice, this was a perfect short walking break.

Beautiful, friendly hotel at the end of the road

We’ve just said a very sad farewell to this wonderful hotel. We’ve had the most exceptional week. A week ago we started driving up a long winding road and saw a village at the top, thinking we can’t possibly be going up there! We were! The location is outstanding! Our room had a lovely balcony looking down over incredible views. The room was plenty big enough for a week with all our kit and the shower was great after a days walking! The walking...... make sure you ask for a map, you will get a lovely hand drawn map showing you the local routes, which reward you with outstanding views! We got great advice from the hosts (three sisters who go out of their way to make you feel welcome and give you information!) and really got the most out of our week because of this. Breakfast and dinner were wonderful, serving home produced and cooked food, the daily specials are definitely worth a try! We cannot wait to come back and bring our families with us to share this amazing place!

What a treat, we didn’t want to leave

Wonderful hotel full of atmosphere in stunning surrounding. Beautiful, comfortable, spacious superior room with balcony. Great views on the mountains. Peaceful and quiet. Good homecooking. Very friendly (also English speaking) people. Fantastic hiking routes starting right from the hotel. Lovely authentic village. 

Amazing

This is a lovely family run inn. Rooms are reasonable size and well maintained and clean, which applies to the rest of the inn. It’s not luxury, but perfectly comfortable. Food is very simple (the main course menu is basically egg and chips and something), but there are daily home cooked specials which are very good (beef from their own cows). The family who runs it are very friendly and helpful. The only disadvantage for walkers is that breakfast starts at 9 am. Given that mountains tend to build up storms in the afternoon, an early start is preferable and 9 am is late. However, they did leave us breakfast out on the table for 7:30 one day.

Delightful country inn

What a lovely place.  Two nights of a 9 day tour of northern Spain that included wheat plains, the sea, the Pyrennean foothills and here, the magnificent mountains of the Picos de Europa.  Reached by a beautiful hairpin-y road with two tunnels  just before you emerge into the little bit of paradise where the Posada is, Cucayo is literally at the end of the road and has the most magnificent views up and down the mountains.   The owners of the Posada are extremely warm and hospitable, the food is basic but delicious and everything except a couple of the puddings cooked from scratch and from local ingredients where possible.  Good local wine, beer and drinks/tea etc available in the bar and restaurant.  We had a lovely big room with great views, a comfy bed and a seating area with two armchairs.  The walking from the hotel is superb; there are both 18k and 5k trails right from the Hôtel and, just up the mountain, a restored old mill that’s a nice 15 min puff up the hill. Unfortunately one of us was feeling below par so we only walked to the big rock and the watermill but we’d love to return for longer to walk more.  The resident goose, Ramon?? and his adopted gosling provide entertainment and watching local people farm just down the hill in the amphitheatre of the mountain is absorbing.  We loved everything about our stay.  Thankyou all for your hospitality.

Beautiful views and wonderful hospitality

If you want a relaxing, getaway from it all break in wonderful scenery and lovely hosts then you could do a lot worse than staying at the Posada de Cucayo.
Tina kindly let us stay just the one night despite booking.com's minimum two night stay requirement.
As you drive away from the main road (N621) and Potes, you climb up a perfectly passable road up to Cucayo village - at one point you see a village high up above you and think that couldn't possibly be where we are going - but it was.
Don't expect to find any obvious village centre but you can't miss the Posada.
It is situated such that from the back of the hotel you have amazing views across the valley and to the mountains. We were given Room 7 which was offered the same views.
The room was absolutely fine and there wasn't anything we needed over and above what was provided.
We had dinner in the Posada (we suspect there aren't any other options in the village) but there was a good value menu (and wines) with plenty of options and all freshly cooked. As we were the only guests staying the night we were there, the kitchen was opened up just for us without any fuss. The meal was lovely by the way!
We had a good, comfortable and quiet night with a good breakfast with optional extras available.
Tina was also very helpful in that she sent us forewarning of road closures in the area which would have saved us a significant detour if we'd come through the area in question.
We took a walk around parts of the village and there obviously many other walking options which we didn't have time to enjoy.
We just wish we'd been able to spend longer at the Posada and hope we'll be able to stay again at some time in the future. Thank you for your hospitality Tina and Ana.

Get away from it all!

Accidentally came across this lovely little place. The most beautiful views, excellent food and so reasonably priced. Would recommend the Fabada it was delicious. The owners were warm and friendly, would definitely go back.
