Lovely small B&B in a simply stunning little historic village. The owner is a delight. We had an amazing room with a beautiful terrace overlooking the village (room 4). There are many very nice restaurants so you can’t go wrong. It is also one of the most peaceful places we have woken up in on our hols in Catalunya. Loved it!!

Beautiful medieval village stay

This is our second visit to Peratallada and to Hostal Blau. We fell in love with this place first time round and it is still as marvellous as ever.

Hostal Blau is an excellent guesthouse run by a lovely lady. The style, furnishings and decor combine to make it the sort of house you’d love to own.

This time we booked a Superior Double and that was certainly a good choice as our room, which is just off a charming internal courtyard, comprises a sitting room, huge bedroom and en-suite facilities further on. It is really lovely and the only slight downside is that in the sitting room area, the partition wall is a false wall, so you can pretty much hear everything that goes on in the adjoining room.

The hotel also provides a handy little tea and coffee station from which you can help yourself to a welcoming cuppa. Breakfast is typical continental fare of fresh fruits, juices, cold meats and cheese and is nicely presented and very tasty.

All in all, Hostal Blau is a lovely place to stay in an equally lovely village and we are already looking forward to making a return visit.

One of our favourite places to stay.

On 16 July I made a reservation for the weekend 30 July-1 August. Had found availability on Booking.com but decided to book directly through the hotel's website . I got an email confirmation and I thought I was all set. On arrival on 30 July I was greeted by the very busy manager, who was in the middle of cleaning duties, and told that my reservation had been cancelled because the room was already booked by someone else, and a cancellation email had been sent. I checked my inbox, including the spam folder, and could not find a cancellation email, neither could the manager in her mail account, yet my reservation showed as cancelled in the system. So I had driven there for 2.5 hours and found myself standing with my luggage and no room to go to on the first weekend of summer peak season. After a heated discussion going nowhere, as I was aggravated about the situation, while we were none the wiser as to how this could have happened, the manager offered to find me a room somewhere though this would take time. I called my friends in the area and they offered me to stay with them, which is not ideal in covid times, but I accepted in order to get on with our weekend. I recommended to the manager that she looks into the technical issues as this could happen again, maybe to someone coming from far away abroad. So if you want to stay here, my advice is that you triple check via email and phone that your reservation is real, or you run the risk of ending up in the same situation as me.

We found  the owners and staff very pleasant and helpful.
We had a suite at the back of the hotel that is separate from the main building which had its own terrace where we could sit out at night and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.

Although I've visited the medieval village of Peratallada previously, this was my first time spending a few nights. The Hostal Blau is located on a narrow cobblestone street a few steps away from the center of the village. The term 'picturesque' doesn't do it justice. I chose the Hostal Blau for this trip as I had my dog in tow and the price was reasonable. We stayed in room 1 which was surprisingly spacious with a small fireplace, sitting room, one larger main bedroom and a smaller single room at the back with the small bathroom in between. Check-in was a breeze and the staff courteous and friendly. The only two small issues: (really only nit picking here)  the breakfast array, while sufficient, could have been better with some eggs (even boiled) and some freshly squeezed orange juice instead of the bottled variety offered and an espresso machine instead of the thermos jugs of brewed coffee. A few euros spent by the owners on some deep cleaning of the premises (awning over the terrace was stained and a bit dirty) and a few coats of fresh paint here and there as well. All-in-all we enjoyed our stay at Hostal Blau and would recommend it to travelers looking for reasonably priced, pet-friendly accommodation in Peratallada.

Quaint, Homey, Pet friendly and Charming Staff

Hostal Blau in Peratallada is a wonderful place to stay, but let’s deal with the practicalities first.

The hotel is in the old village and, as you can’t drive there, you need to park in one of the three car parks just outside the old walls. Each car park has attendants and, once you tell them that you are going to stay at Hostal Blau, they will advise whether you are in the nearest car park. You won’t have to pay and simply have to get a free parking permit for the car when you check in.

The streets in the village are quite rough in places and a bit a maze, so my advice is to leave your main luggage in the car at first, then find the location of Hostal Blau before collecting the rest of your baggage after checking in.

Hostal Blau is a wonderful old house with arched ceilings and beautiful public rooms where you can relax or make yourself a coffee. Check in was efficient and most friendly, and we found the staff to be lovely throughout our visit.

Our room (No 4) is right at the top of the hotel and involved three staircases to gain access - one of which is in the room itself. We didn’t mind at all however as the room was large, beautifully decorated, and very comfortable. And as a real added bonus - it has its own private roof terrace, which was perfect for reading or bit of sunbathing.

Breakfast is served in a charming room and, as well as the expected juices, cereals, ham, cheese etc., included some tasty local cured sausages and fresh fruits and tomatoes. We really enjoyed it.

In summary: Peratallada is an absolute gem and Hostal Blau matches it perfectly. We have travelled to many parts of the world over many years and have stayed in countless places. Quite simply, this is one of the loveliest and most perfect places we have ever stayed.

I’m already planning our next visit!

Fantastic team; magical place!

We spent a couple nights at Hostal Blau and fell in love with it immediately. Having two small children, we were placed into an expansive room and felt very welcomed. The hotel itself is an experience in itself to walk through and you can really feel the history. Breakfasts were excellent and filling, and we loved the location for day trips to the beaches and neighbouring villages. Peratallada is beautiful and relaxing place to be, and the restaurants are fantastic. The time we had here was the most relaxing and enjoyable part of our trip, and we changed our plans to stay there again on our way back through Spain. Highly recommended!

Enchanting hotel in a simply charming medieval city

The building is many centuries old in the beautiful little town of Peratalĺada. Very nice rooms with excellent service, good breakfast. Most suitable for romantic vacations. We koved it felt like magic. The location is great to travel the Costa Brava area.

Magical Hotel excellent staff

The house is stunning & magical ....... our room was utterly beautiful with a gorgeous rooftop terrace overlooking the village rooftops.  Breakfast was delicious with fresh bread, regional sausage, home made jams and figs & tomatoes from their garden- yum !  Our hosts were all lovely & even helped us get tickets last minute for the Dali house ...... could not have been kinder 😊 would highly recommend
