I can only say goodbye to the restaurant, great service, great staff and wonderful breakfast, the morning welcome is a special quality and we liked it for six days.

Great staff.

Located in the centre less than 100 metres from the main square. Positive points: clean rooms, well located, attentive staff who allowed bicycles to be placed next to the access staircase. Negative points: Guest noise, no breakfast available

Simple and well-located

A star is still too much for this hotel. Dirty, filthy, stinking. However - why invest? Gernika is poorly served with accommodation. Any pilgrim who wants to stay here is happy about a bed. My advice: early in the right hotel in the city or a pilgrim's lodge after the city.

Moist and dirty

Terrible lodging experience. We were eaten alive by bugs in our room. Worst stay of the dozen or so places we have stayed during our Camino Norte and Camino Santiago journey. Not many options to stay overnight in Gernika but Would not recommend Hotel Bolina.

Great soft towels 

There, i said something positive,  nothing else can be said positively about this hotel 

Its cheap,  it cannot be classed as an hotel,  its creaky beds and floor,  there are bags and bags of used laundry and restaurant linen, totally unhygienic, restaurant was closed,  bar was closed (maybe because of Sunday),  restaurant on 1st fl looked archaic, aromas were unpleasant. 
Its no better than any lodging house and worse than many hostels,   you get what you pay for,  which is a creaky bed, centrally located,  no services,  no ac, no breakfast,  but you do get nice soft towels

Avoid

I stayed 1 night at the Bolina while walking the Camino de Santiago. The hotel is in a prime location just half a block off the Camino in the old city and at this time check in is through the hotel's bar. There is no lift and sleeping rooms are on 3 floors up stairs. My room was small and the bathroom was tiny but they had all that I needed for 1 night. There was a big comfortable bed and a stand that worked to hold my open bag. A small desk at the end of the bed made for a tight fit and required squeezing past on an angle which gives an idea of the room size. Everything was acceptably clean if not pristine scrubbed. This is an older hotel with a bit of rust and general scruffiness. My room was very light with afternoon sun. The wifi is bad, coming and going in all parts of the building including the room and the bar.

The hotel bar is very popular and busy with nice and helpful staff, good pintxos and outdoor as well as indoor seating. My room was at the back of the building and did not get any noise from downstairs but I could hear other guests on the landing - and the Spanish can be very noisy.

Hotel Bolina is a reasonable place to stay for a night if you don't have extravagant expectations and it is wonderfully convenient for access to the Camino.

Good Enough for One Night

We had to sleep through the open window so as not to suffocate! We preferred to sleep in our sleeping bags so as not to be in contact with the dirty sheets like the rest of the room! A hotel that has only its name and that takes advantage of the lack of competition in the sector!

Who wants to sleep in the sewers?

Indeed this hotel is not really top (not very well maintained rooms, no elevator, bicycles in the entrance). Even the wifi is pushy... but it is very close to the center and on the Way of St. James. With the youth hostels closed it is one of the few accommodation opportunities in Gernika. So without a grain we eat seaweed. Indeed the staff is not the most hospitable. But in this COVID period be careful to book on Gernika.

A hotel that's aged and deserves a new look.

I think it is unacceptable that a city like Gernika could have a hotel with these characteristics.The photos are totally misleading and the facilities are unacceptable for the price they charge you, 60 euros.For 74 euros we have hired a 4-star hotel in central Bilbao with breakfast included.

Disillusionment and disappointment.

An experience to forget about a hotel with a good location, but with quite a lot of taras, cutter and dirty in general, the attention is pretty bad not to mention that it was almost the same as the facilities, part of it smells bad, a tip, if you want to rest after a day of leisure, this is not your place!
