This property should not appear on any booking web site!  First of all, the downstairs bar wreaks of smoke.  The room also smelled like smoke and looked of something pre-Cold War era.  Walls were paper thin and all could be heard up and down the hall, including all details of machinery in the laundry room.  A couple showed up for only a couple of hours during the afternoon and no details were spared as to their activities - the next best thing to being there!  The hotel and room were both antiquated and dirty.  This was by far the worst accommodation for all of my 43 days of travel during the Camino del Norte.  An awful start to an awesome adventure.  This property is a bust.  I would not recommend it to anyone, and especially families.

WORST PLACE I STAYED ON THE CAMINO!

I stayed here for one night before starting my walk to Santiago de Compostela. I enjoyed it. The room was very functional with a hot shower and fairly good bed. It was clean and had a fan, air con and a TV. A room looking into the street would have been nice as they had small balconies. The hotel was well located just a 100 m's or so from the pilgrimage trail and they were able to stamp my pilgrims passport. The bar downstairs was a nice place to get drinks or food and opened early for breakfast. 6AM I think. I would stay here again.

Friendly people , near the station , good food , clean and affordable. I stayed here before starting the Camino . Handy having food here when your tired after travelling all day . Also the church next door for a credential . Great all round .

Don't stay here. Stay somewhere that actually has sheets that fit the bed. Stay somewhere that doesn't leave your clothes smelling like fried food the next morning. Stay somewhere where the walls aren't so thin you can hear your neighbors complaining about how thin the walls are. Stay somewhere that doesn't have mold in the corners, cigarette smoke leaking under the door, and a saggy bed that leaves you in a rumpled pile in the middle of the night. The one redeeming factor of this place is that the wifi is strong enough for us to leave this review.

Have some self-respect

We needed a place to overnight between taking a day train from Paris and departing the next evening on the night train to Lisbon. Pension Bidasoa was PERFECT. The hotel is but a short walk from the SNCF/Renfe (train) station so no taxi required. The lady running the bar and the accommodation was wonderful - helpful, cheerful, and funny. There is a lift to the upstairs rooms. Our ensuite room was spotlessly clean and (having just come from Paris) relatively large; certainly big enough for two people and our luggage. If time permits, walk ~300 meters NE and turn right on Colon Ilibidea. Follow it for about a KM (the street becomes Navarra Ilibidea) to find a wide range of shops, parks, and restaurants. Americans: "WiFi" is pronounced "wee-fee." And - yes - proprietress speaks no English (only Basque, Spanish, French, and who knows what else) so download Google Translate onto your smart phone and have some fun communicating with the locals.

I have never stayed in a place like this.  The rooms of the hotel are behind a bar, a bar frequented by retired pensioners , with three TV screens telecasting soccer, handball and tennis simultaneously.The people are old and harmless. Everyone is totally involved with the games screened . Nobody can speak English ,so a rudimentary knowledge of Spanish is required. The approach to the rooms is through the bar. The room is tiny but clean, The walls are a little thin ,so you may hear sounds from the next room. The bathroom is small but clean.There is a balcony over looking the street. It is good enough for transit accomodation .The railway station is walking distance and it is near the city centre. The girl at the bar who also looks after reservations is very friendly despite being extremely busy.We had to wait for a while till she finished serving drinks. There is a restaurant which serves lunch , dinner and breakfast, but is closed for siesta from 1pm to 4pm. Very basic like all pensions and fine for just one night. Very affordable. I would give an average +
