We stayed here for 2 nights and were so pleased we had chosen this little hotel.  Rooms are simple but spotlessly clean.  Excellent wifi speed.  Breakfast available in the small bar on the ground floor.  Walking distance to all the various restaurants L'Escala has to offer.  Had a room on the 2nd floor at the front of the building but didn't find it too noisy as it is principally a residential street.  Free parking just up the road in a municipal car park.  Owners are lovely, very friendly and helpful.  Good price, we will stay here again.

Lovely clean hotel in an excellent location

We stayed here for 3 nights in July.

Pluses:

1. On the same street as the "bus station," the coach stop to/from Barcelona Estacio Nord
2. Excellent location on the outskirts of Old Town
3. Walkable to Old Town, beaches, ruins of Emupuries, restaurants, and next door to a supermarket
4. Friendly, kind owners
5. Clean and secure
6. On 2nd floor, huge airy rooms with balconies
7. Excellent price point for Costa Brava
8. Outlets by the beds!
9. Free, fast wifi (but insecure)

Minuses:
1. Breakfast is not free (but the hostal shares space with an inexpensive bar)
2. Very insecure wifi, with no security at all. Use a VPN.
3. Balcony overlooking the street can be noisy
4. No fridge in the room

Overall, hugely recommend for a getaway!

Excellent budget hostal walkable to everything in L'Escala

Stayed for five nights with the wife for friends wedding. Room on third floor, very simple (basic), but good sized bathroom and balcony suitable for two seats with a view of the (distant) sea. The staff were always incredibly friendly and polite, greeting us both in and out of the hotel. Five minutes walk from the front which is ideal as the old town is impossible to park and there was never a problem parking at the hotel. Very good all round

Excellent value

This is not a hostel, so the name is confusing.  It is very much a hotel.  We were worried after reading some of the negative reviews but the place ended up being pretty much perfect for what we needed.  We booked through Booking.com and got a very reasonable price, so we did not expect much.  We just wanted a base from which to explore L'escala and other places in the Costa Brava for a few days.  Myself and my fiance are both in our late twenties and we stayed with my parents who are both in their 60's.  We booked two double rooms.

The staff at the hotel were absolutely delightful, they couldn't have been more friendly and helpful.  We didn't stay for breakfast at the hotel but this looked quite nice.  The rooms were immaculate with large ensuite bathrooms and plenty of clothes storage.  The TV had english channels and the free wifi connection was good, although a little unreliable at times.  We asked for 2 quiet rooms not on the ground floor and this is exactly what we got.  There was a handy lift which was great for heavy baggage,  The hotel was so quiet considering it was fully booked but because we asked for a quiet room we did not have much of a view from the window.  We couldn't have left the window open as it wouldn't have been secure (there was a walkway right outside), however we really didn't need to open the window as the aircon worked wonderfully.  

We had a large bathroom with shower, bath and bidet.  The "free toiletries" consisted only of sachets of body wash but they were replenished every day along with fresh towels and a cleaning service.  Again, we could not believe we got this considering the price, very good value.  

The only downside was the location, although it is a short walk from one of the beaches, we thought it would be closer to L'Escala and Empuries.  However, these were both about a 15 minute walk away and the walk along the coast was very pleasant.  Right by the hotel there is a pharmacy, supermarket and various shops, bars and restaurants - very convenient.

The bar was pleasant and they had a good selection of drinks but this was only open until 10pm.  However, you can come and go any time you wish as they give you a key to the main door along with your room key.

Overall, this was more than just your basic place to stay and certainly more than a room for the night. The price was fantastic and the staff were really the icing on the cake - we were made to feel extremely welcome.  We will definitely be returning!

Fantastic value for money!!

I am greatly disappointed with this hostel, as it had excellent reviews. The rate of the rooms is the same , but there are big discrepancies in comfort, some have balconies, some don't. 

The location is ok, close to the tourist information office and next to a supermarket.
The distance to the beach is ok too about 400meters ( and not 100m as advertised).

The rooms are not soundproofed. The worst is 103 - on the first floor facing a boulevard and just above the breakfast room. There was noise from the traffic and from the breakfast room despite the closed windows. No balcony to dry the swimsuit. 
The wifi kept dropping every 2 minutes and you have to relog in every time.
Could be ok for a short stay, but we stayed 4 nights and we just couldn't rest.
Maybe the other rooms were better, but that doesn't make me feel  better, as we have paid the same price!
