I chose the Delfina over other options because I was looking for a place close to Plaza Cibeles since I had an early morning flight out and would need to get the Airport Express bus that stops at Cibeles.  The Delfina's location is close, on the Gran Via, right above the landmark Museo Chicote.

I had a single room with private bath.  The bathroom was retrofitted onto a room previously without plumbing.  The drain in the shower was very slow, so I was worried about flooding the floor with even the shortest of showers.  The walls were also very thin, so I could hear every word of my very noisy neighbor and her child during the night.  

On the plus side, the ladies who run the place were friendly and helpful.  The wifi was fast.  There is an elevator to the hostal.  In summary, nothing spectacular but the proximity to the airport bus made it a good choice for me this time.

Great Location, Especially If You Are Using the Airport Express Bus

Had a room for 3 over 3 nites in Oct, cannot fault it. Central to everything, very clean. Greeted on arrival by a lady that doesn't speak English. However we managed to communicate easy.
Hop on bus stops on same side just a little further up. Main shopping street is 200 yards away. 
Only disappointment for me was no coffee or tea making facilities, however plenty of cafes, restaurants close by.

Lovely central location

We had a double room, with private bathroom, which had a juliet balcony straight onto Gran Via.  A wonderful location from which to see the city and we walked everywhere.  Despite Gran Via being very busy we had no problems sleeping as the windows were double-glazed and we used the air-con as necessary.  The whole ambiance of the building was amazing.
The room was very clean, and cleaned every day.  Senora Delfina was lovely.  She spoke no English and we spoke little Spanish, but we had no problems communicating.
There was no breakfast with the accommodation but we had a typical, simple, breakfast in the bar next door.
Highly recommended.

Great in every way!

Arrival was after 10pm, so I felt a little apprehensive as I rang the buzzer at a building on the busy Grand Via.   No apprehension necessary - everything at this budget hostal was impeccable.   The room was extremely clean (decoration a little quirky, but easy to overlook), the wifi worked well,  air conditioning in the room.   We had very little to do with the staff other than a Buenos Dias or a Buenos Noches as we came or left, but they seemed very friendly and are obviously extremely conscientious.  The beds were two singles, instead of a double, pushed together.   They had been made up as singles, but we didn't bother to ask if the bedding could be changed.   However, they were very comfortable.  The room was unexpectedly quiet given that it is on a very busy and main road, and the location very central for exploring.   This place was quite a find for very little euros, perfect for independent travellers not expecting a luxurious experience but appreciating cleanliness and that everything works as advertised.

feels like being at  home very clean  the stuff are very friendly and helpful  seniora delfina is a mum for everybody very caring and devoted lady the hostal is near the palace museums plaza del sol shopping stores you can visit the city walking like i did or  take the gran  via metro station which is 2mn walk from the hostal very safe area close to  cafe shops restaurants metro station 10 mn walk to the shuttle station the room is big no noise good mattress i  will definitely choose it again for my next visit to madrid great value of money

The best location for the city. Beds are really comfortable. Personal is really nice, helpful and friendly. It is perfect for all kind of plans and all kind of people. If you want a quiet accommodation in Madrid, this is definitely your choice.

The hostal is in an ideal situation in the centre of Madrid.
Señora Delfina is charming.Nothing is too much trouble.
The hostal is spotlessly clean.The assistants obviously work very hard.
My small room had a toilet and washbasin in one corner of the room.There was no separating door which I would have preferred.
The room itself was a reasonable size for just one person and the price was reasonable .
Ideal for an overnight stay.
