Hello, I stayed at the hostel a few days ago in a private room, I was charged 65 euros a night but the room was very but very small, it could accommodate only a bed and a very small desk. There was no room to move around, the bathroom was also small.

Sweet and small.

Before completing the registration process I asked the old spanish to let us see the camera she had allocated to us but in a mancing manner, she grinned, pointed out to my booking with Booking.com and said: Senior, you have paid for the camera anyway ! 
The camera (No. 101, the first on your left from the reception desk on the thrid floor) did not have a balcony but a veranda with sealed semi rotten windows. This was not what had been described to us but the camera at least had air conditioning. However, two of the three nights we spent were ruined by the excruciatingly painful noise that came from the road Calle Mayor. Couple with the noise from drunk tourists and spaniards for two nights there were road works that wen on until 3 am. It sent us mad and we had only a few hours sleep. Instead of getting up earlier we remained in bed until 10:30/11:00 thus losing site seeing valuable time. I suggest you avoid this establishment. It must have been aware of the road works going on yet still accepted guests.

Avoid this Hostal in Madrid. 

Just got back from a 2 night stay here and I can't fault the place for the price you pay. 
Don't be put off but the big black door of the entrance or the old style lift. Once inside the hotel on the third floor you could be in any other hotel reception. 
The lady who checks you in, is so sweet. You get a key for the front door & also hotel door as they reception isn't 24/7. 
The room was bigger than I expected and the beds although small are very comfy. 
The location is perfect and tons of bars nearby. The metro is a 5 mins walk and if you are coming from the airport you will want line 8, then line 10 to Tribunal and then line 1 to Sol. 
This was a great find & would reccomend it to anyone looking for a 2 night break & not wanting to pay a fortune for a hotel.

A great find, in a great City!

The place is right smack in the center. For a first timer in Spain, I loved how noisy and vibrant it is. It is near Sol and Opera train stations. The room is well maintained with air conditioning. We were provided with towels during our stay. The bathroom size is adequate unlike the one we had in Valencia. Water pressure was also really good. I loved the warm shower after a long day of dragging my luggage from the airport. WIFI is fast. 

If you are a light sleeper, do not choose a room with a balcony. It's extremely noisy during the wee hours in the morning. Lots of shouting from people who just finished partying. 

Worth it

Excellent location a short walk from Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor.The building is very modern, clean, equipped and with very cordial care.I was pleasantly surprised and of course I RECOMMEND it!!!

It exceeded my expectations.

Excellent cleaning and care from Luisa, very sweet and quiet. The location is of the place is unbeatable, it is a few meters from the plaza del sol. I would come back every time I come to Madrid, it is really a pleasure and very good price/quality.

Excellent hostel in the heart of Madrid, highly recommended. Comfortable bed in a small but most cozy room. It's totally renovated. The staff is quite attentive and friendly. The only thing sticking, quizá, is the key theme, not yet modern cards but otherwise all great.

Excellent hostel in the center.

I stayed at the Hostal Mayor at the end of January which clashed with an international conference. Prices at the hotels were expensive but I found this accommodation at very good price. The single room was very small but clean and decent for the night I spent there. It is basic and good for a short stay. For longer overnights it might be better to opt for a larger room at the Hostal.
The staff was friendly and helpful. 

Great location!

The location of the hostel is excellent, in the center of the city center. From la señora Luisa, what can I say; all kindness. Although I always touch small rooms, they are always immaculate.To remain a reference place, I think it would be advisable to soundproof the windows on the street Postas. Very advisable.

Back and forth.

Once again in Hostal Mayor, with the familiarity offered by Mrs. Luisa, the cleanliness and comfort of the room.Always remarkable is the location of the hostel near the metro, shopping sites, restaurants, banks, in the heart of the historic center of Madrid.
