We have just returned from a weekend in Ribeira Sacra, and a stay in Pazo da Pena, and we could not have been more delighted with our experience. We stayed in one of the suites, which was beautifully decorated and just the most amazing room, for what they offer we thought that the price was fair and were not disappointed with the amenities at all. The service, however, is what really stands out. The two ladies that attended us were faultlessly kind and friendly, very enthusiastic and this really made the trip for us. We very much enjoyed the free tour that they give every evening at 7pm around the house, explaining all the corners and the history of the house and it's restoration. They have lovingly and respectfully restored the building and its surroundings to an admirable level and we were enchanted by the whole thing. The lady who gives the tour is also very enthusiastic and explains extremely well. They even have complimentary liquor from the area available to guests and many common spaces.

The best getaway one could hope for

I stayed here one night last month while traveling through Spain with work colleagues, and cannot say enough positive things about Pazo de Pena. This is a truly wonderful place to stay, with very helpful and friendly staff, amazing rooms to pamper you (plenty of space, super comfortable beds, and luxurious bathrooms), and a charming collection of common rooms on the main floor worth exploring. I was ill during the visit, so I can most highly recommend the comfortable beds for long rest, and a very relaxing seating in their fireplace room for hot tea and bread. The continental breakfast is exceptional as well, with plenty of sweet and savory options for all diets, and featuring locally made preserves, honeys, cheeses and breads. 

I really want to return here (and I will in another year for work) and hopefully be able to spend more time here to explore the town and all it has to offer.

Spoil yourself at this beautiful casa rural in Manzaneda

Unforgettable place.  Beautiful. Pleased.  Lovely rooms and best breakfast, with local stuff. 
They show the “Pazo” and give you a review about the place and it’s history.  Everything is very cleaned and new. Awesome!!!

Best than expected!!! 

The place is located in pretty Ourense province countryside, far from big cities, and worth a trip. An impressively restored mansion, original, decorated with taste, peaceful, with friendly and attentive staff and all amenities in place. A place to spend some more time than the one night we stayed. Make sure not to miss the tour of the grounds with explanations of the history.

Beautiful place

We were at Pazo da Pena this past week end and it was a really wonderful, pleasant stay. The pazo has been tasty restored, rooms are wide and comfortable and we enjoyed the fresh, home made breakfast. Attention was very kind too. We will repeat.

Perfect!!

We were disappointed. We chose this place as we wanted to visit Manzaneda but didn't want to stay in a cold apartment up at the ski resort. From the photos it looked incredible, ok it wasn't cheap, but we didn't mind as we knew it would be an experience. Unfortunately they didn't have 2 connecting rooms free for us and the children, so we opted to share a room with the kids and they offered to put 2 beds in there for us at extra cost. We arrived quite late - 5pm - and the receptionist looked surprised that we had our children with us. The room was not ready with the extra beds. Never mind we thought - we'll go for a walk while they get the room ready. But 1 hour later when we returned, they still had not put the beds in the room. Then it turned out - actually - they didn't have 2 beds, only 1. So they offered an extra single room near ours (our kids are 6 and 4!). We agreed to have 1 bed and 1 mattress on the floor. Not ideal. When we came to pay - no discount was offered, and when we asked for one, we were told the receptionist was not authorised to give us a discount. She said "you probably won't come back eh?" - that's right - probably not. 
The food for dinner was a major let down. We were told 30 Euros a person for a 3 course meal with wine, so, for that price, we expected something special. Well, suffice to say the menu del dia we had enjoyed for lunch for 10 Euros each in another village was much better than the dinner we were given. Very plain food. Dry. Not well cooked and disappointing. OK - so maybe breakfast is going to be better. Next day we arrived for breakfast at 10 - probably one of the last. The tables were used - crumbs everywhere, no one offered to clean one up for us. All self-service, no one around to offer tea - only coffee available. The fruit was days old - not appealing at all (looked like old apples that had fallen off the tree) - the meats almost finished - the choice very limited - again - disappointing. 
Sadly, I feel this place sells itself on its amazing situation and restoration of what is an incredibly beautiful building. For a full house - - there were clearly not enough staff and we won't be returning or recommending it to others.
