The little basic apartment was fantastic and well equipped except it needs a couch, coffee maker, basic cleaning supplies (sponge and dish detergent), curtains for privacy and bug screens in the windows.
The place is gorgeous, the bell ringing every hour makes it very special.

Almost great

I booked the apartments because they are cheaper than the hotel and because I'm staying 4 days and wanted to be able to make some of my food.  The room has a tiny kitchen and bath and decent-sized bedroom area.  Everything was sparkling clean, including the pressed bedding.  The huge windows open to let in the fresh air and beautiful view.  Be sure to bring your basics like salt/pepper/oil and dish soap and matches to light the gas stove.  The little grocery had eggs, butter, fresh sausages, yogurt, fresh lettuce and fruit, and frozen sour dough bread, and even has some frozen veggies and meals.  You get a discount if you show your room registration.  There's also great bread and muffins in the gift shop.  Heavenly place to stay!!  It's a lot more expensive than some of the reviews state:  32 euros/night for 1 person, but you get a discount for 4 nights.  The elevator works great now.

Wonderful place to stay in gorgeous setting.

Even though it looked a little simple, it was just what we needed.
The beds were good. There was a fine fridge with a small freezer. And a gas-stove.

A great little tip, fill your half-liter water bottles HALF, with fresh water and put them in the freezer before you  go to bed.
When you go out the next day, fill up the rest of the bottles with fresh water, and you have a cold drink for hours.

Room with 2 bedrooms, just what we were looking for

We stayed here for 3 nights after 4 nights in Barca city and it was blissful.  Do not expect luxury or chintz, these are very basic and functional monk's cells and that is reflected in the price (and in the Basilica TV channel on the television).  That said, if you come prepared for that then you'll be in heaven.  The place itself is astoundingly beautiful and so, so calm, especially after the day trippers leave. We really needed this escape after a hectic city break.  

If you come in summer, be warned that the cells do not have aircon or even a fan.  It was superhot when we were there and my other half struggled to sleep.  If we went again (and I would love to) then we'd make sure to buy a room fan to take with us.  The cells are so cheap that it'd be totally worth it, even adding in that extra cost.  

It's almost a shame to regard the cells as simply a cheaper option to the hotel, they represent a different style of living which is actually quite refreshing.

Perfect antidote to Barca

The apartments at Monserrat are quite dated but spacious and immaculate.  Plus, they're pet friendly! Dishes and linens are provided but no soaps or matches for the stove. Staying the night at Monserrat has a great added benefit...it's calm and peaceful after all the day-trippers leave.

Very spacious, clean, adequate

My room had a horrible smell coming out of the bathroom drain, like rotten eggs. The room was also not quiet at all. I could hear all the rooms around me as well as the monastery’s bells every quarter hour.  The site is absolutely beautiful but I would wait until the new building is opened.
