We stayed 2 nights at the end of a wonderful tour of Galicia. The house is gorgeous and with beautiful gardens set on the outskirts of Ourense in peaceful countryside. The photos really don't do it justice - the house has been beautifully and sensitively restored - Gill (one half of the lovely couple who are lucky enough to own it) said it took 10 years and we can believe that. The rooms and bathrooms are very comfortable - breakfast was delicious. You are really made welcome and feel you have joined a house party. The local restaurant Betys is very good - no pretensions but good food and a friendly welcome. Ourense and the stunning Gorge of Sil are close by. Ourense is a lovely town - lively and interesting. 
We highly recommend. 



Peaceful retreat close to Ourense

This was our first stop on a week long driving tour of Galicia. After getting lost around Santiago we had an easy journey to Ourense. We arrived at the hotel to be greeted by a very chatty lady who spoke a lot of Spanish which was all well and good but none of our party could speak the language. After lots of hand waving and a few words from our phrase book we were less than optimistic we had booked a taxi to take us to a restaurant at around 9 pm.  We were saved by the owner Benito who spoke perfect English and arranged for us to go to two local restaurants during our stay. He confirmed we had totally confused Teresa who thought we were rather old (and probably odd).
This is a really delightful place, beautifully decorated with lots of interesting art work.
Breakfast was excellent. The situation of the hotel is an oasis of calm not far from the main road into Ourense.

Teresa met us with a beaming smile and showed us to our pre-warmed  and comfortable room upstairs (it was so cold outdoors).  The house has been painstakingly restored by Benito and Gill, the friendly and thoughtful owners and they have put their own stamp on it with Gill's artwork. Our room was large and bright with a beamed ceiling and windows on two sides.The bed was very comfortable. Useful waste paper basket (often lacking). We spent time in the beautiful communal sitting room with crackling log fire - one of us fell asleep in front of it (not me!) - and we really appreciated the complementary teas, coffee - and something a bit stronger.  Breakfast was in a lovely room with another log fire and there was everything you could want to start the day including gluten-free bread and magdalenas (requested on our booking form). Por decir algo, as they say, the only think we missed was a surface to rest our suitcases on in the bedroom.  When you get to a certain age, it is uncomfortable to open and close them on the floor.  Apart from that there were lots of thoughtful touches including chocolates - and the contents of the top drawer in the bathroom!  We had a very comfortable stay and it was a wrench to move on after only two days.

We have so enjoyed staying 2 nights at this delightful family Casa in the hills above Ourense

. Benito  and Gill our hosts have renovated and lovingly decorated this exceptional venue. The location is idyllic, very quiet comfortable bedrooms and the food so good you hardly want to leave. There is absolutely no doubt that that active and involved owners take such care of their property and their guests that the result shines through. Our whole stay was outstanding and great value, it has been the highlight of our Iberian travels so far.

Quality country hotel nicely furnished  in a charming setting where we were welcomed by very accomodating host and hostess.
