Hostal Romero offers nice, basic and inexpensive rooms on a good location. Just what you need visiting a city like Oviedo.

Unfortunately, the small hotel has a couple of major problems:

Check-in took almost 30 minutes, because the lady in the reception didn’t know how to use the electronical tools for photocopying our passportes. In addition, she didn’t know one single word in English.

Even worse are the paper thin walls. When our neighbour went to the bathroom during the night (and he did several times) it seemed like he was using our bathroom. Also people talking and singing in the street sounded like they were psycically inside our room … we didn’t get much sleep.

So - now you know why rates at Hostal Romero are so incredibly reasonable.

“Hey, buddy, get out my bathroom…!”

The Pension Romero is perfectly located in downtown Oviedo within walking distance of the Cathedral, park, and restaurant district.  The pension is small, but very clean with a private bathroom.  The outside street can be a little noisy at night, but as pilgrims starting the Camino Primitivo from Oviedo, we could not have asked for a better place to prepare for our pilgrimage.

Do not stay at this "hostel" (really more of a motel/budget hotel) if you are sensitive to smoke!

I am sensitive to smoke, and my room was located right next to reception. It seems that the night receptionist enjoys smoking, so I had to sleep in a smoke filled room, which was quite uncomfortable for me. 

Additionally, the room walls are very thin - so that you can hear practically everything your neighbors are saying or doing. 

That said, the WIFI was faster here than any accommodation I've ever had in Spain, and moreover, the price was extremely reasonable, at around 27 euros a night for a single room, so I think that a 4 star rating is definitely warranted. Overall quite good.

Smoking - Otherwise Good

The hostel is located  in the center of town at walking distance from the main attractions.
Parking at the Corte Ingles at 5 minutes walk (a little bit complicated to get the car back early in the morning). Reduced fee at the hostel.
Nice and clean room.
Helpful staff.
Free WIFI.
Reasonably priced.

Central location

Perfect start to my Camino.  Located right smack in the center and close to everything.  Small room with everything the budget traveler needs.  Bed was very comfortable.  There is a writing desk and chair, small TV, and large closet.  Bathroom is small, as is the enclosed shower.  Good water pressure and lots of hot water.  Wifi signal is strong.  Corte Inglés Supermarket is just down the street on the other side.  That was the best part, because I prefer markets to restaurants.  Room #14 is interior and there was zero noise both nights I was here.  Why go anywhere else and pay more for basically the same thing???  Credit card charge for two nights was $56.83.

EXCELLENT AND ECONOMICAL

We found this hôtel by chance after that several others were full. The room we had was large (with an extra bed we didnt need) and the 50e per night was OK for such a good location. The problem start when we tried to sleep, we could hear every thing from the room nearby (taking shower, washing teeth) and all the people in the corridor. The acoustic is very poor we even be woken up by the alarm at 6pm from another room. In addition to that the bed is kind of hard.it wasnt à night to remember 

Cheap hotel but hard to sleep

I am a student studying abroad in Oviedo and needed to stay in a hostel before I could move into the dorms. This hostel was great! More like a small motel. It was very clean and the staff were very helpful. It was a little dificult to find, as I was walking, but Hostal Romero is close to the bus station and just by asking people on the street general directions I was able to find it within 10 minutes. I would definitely recommend this hostel to anyone needing a place to stay in Oviedo!
