Stayed here in our campervan as a stopover. The site was basic but we thought had a lovely relaxed atmosphere to it. Everywhere was clean and the reception staff extremely helpful and friendly. Peniscola certainly worth a visit with lots of lovely restaurants. We ate in the camps restaurant and again staff very pleasant and helpful. The meal we had was ok. And would try the restaurant again if we returned.

When visiting anywhere new the thing that impresses most is the staff. At Sol D'or all the staff we encountered were extremely friendly and helpful . You get what you pay for in terms of accommodation. For 50 pounds a night a lovely basic wooden chalet that would sleep four is great value. It had large fridge and freezer compartment, two ring burner and dining table for four . 
We visited out of  high season so although the chalets are close to each other we did not have neighbours. I have to say that in Peak season the experience may  have been very different . But waking up to bird song and sunshine was lovely.  The pool was closed but the weather has not been up to normal standards and in fairness the web site advises weather related pool opening. It is a 2Km walk to beach along white road and dirt track. Lovely walk but not in the heat of  high summer with children. Peniscola is worth a visit for the history and stunning views from the castle , also the sand is so fine it is delightful compared to other areas along the coast. The round trip walk from camp site to Castle and around was 10KM ,Otherwise car is necessary and parking in high season will be limited. Lots of restaurants and gift shops in Peniscola and thankfully, since our last visit many years ago , the PENIS styled gifts have been replaced by lots of lovely , more sophisticated, knickknacks . There are  Supermarkets close to the site and at the restaurant one can buy basics. Bring linen. And pillows if fussy .

People make a difference

Excellent service from young man on reception very friendly and helpful. Parked up on a nice level pitch under the pine trees (fly spray needed but maybe because it was mid September).  Shower blocks and facilities very good and clean.  The pool was open all day which is brilliant as others do a silly close from 2-4 pm.  Couldn't eat as this part was closed due to family bereavement but it looked clean and menu was good.  Overall a nice basic site   The best bit is the walk or cycle into Peniscola as the castle on the hill with quaint cobbled streets, cafes and shops and then back in in the evening for the nightlife along the promenade with bars, restaurants and shops.  An all round lovely atmosphere will be back.

Firstly I have to say,  this site  is basic, but it takes you back to the days when camping was camping.  Which we have to say is great!!!. 
Sol D'or, is very quiet and has a relaxed atmosphere and is only a 15-20 min walk to the beach front, where there are also very good cycle routes. 
My husband and myself have stayed here before and would definitely visit again, but sadly tonight we ate In the restaurant. Which was a great disappointment. The staff were very friendly but spoke very little English, my husband ordered the fish platter which was ok and well presented, but my pork loin  (which was definitely not loin) with Roquefort sauce and chips was so dried out and covered in what could only be described as a sludge of a sauce and no garnish. Was dreadfull!!! 
Needless to say we will not be going back. 2 mains, 1 large beer and a bottle of wine cost us € 27.00.
