We stayed here for 1 night in July, post-COVID.

Pluses:
1. Very helpful & kind owners. My refundable booking deadline was the day before Barcelona added new travel restrictions, and the owners kindly offered to extend the refundable deadline as the pandemic required.
2. Fabulous location in the Old City, right on the walls.
3. Walkable to everything: restaurants, the castle, the beach, shops, the bus stop to the train station
4. Clean and sanitary: good COVID protections (hand sanitizer, touch-free checkout)
5. Incredible view over Peníscola
6. Quiet & secure

Minuses:
1. Only 1 outlet in the room
2. No breakfast or coffee/tea available
3. It's at the top of a very long flight of stone stairs

Overall, highly recommend for a getaway to Peníscola!

Beautiful hostal in the castle walls

My second visit to the area in a year and chose to come here again, just because the location is fab and the rooms are clean and quirky.  Didn’t disappoint again.  Really clean and all we needed.  Still dog friendly which is good for us.

Second visit

It is true that I was a bit disconcerted on arrival that the hostel appeared closed up.  A quick phone call to the number given, elicited a lovely lady attending within 15 mins who was very apologetic. ( I had asked for a 6pm check in and was early as it was 5.15pm).  I was given a fabulous room which was bright and very clean.  The lady owner was so helpful and gave me loads of information.
The location is within the old walls and yards from everything you would want to see.
Lots of cafes and restaurants adjacent, however on a Monday night in November, everything was shut.  Out of the main season it appears to be mainly closed in the week coming alive at weekends.
Well worth staying here and great value for money.

Lovely stay

The hotel is in a great location very close to the castle.  Our room was very small but clean and functional.  We has a tiny balcony with great views of the sea and beach, but no place to sit.  In the room, there was one uncomfortable chair.  The room was air conditioned and there was a small refrigerator.  The staff was friendly and helpful but not there at all hours.  If location is important, I would highly recommend the hotel.  If a big modern room is important, I would recommend going to another hotel.

Great Location

A small Juliet balcony offered amazing views over the sea and the resort of Peniscola. Room and ensuite was to put it mildly, cosy particularly as we had to accommodate a dog cage. There was a fridge which was a bonus. Rooms are quirkily decorated, as I understand different themes for each room. Staff friendly. Parking down by the port. Had to pay about 3 or 4 euros at the meter. We stayed in May which was free so seasonal charges. Recommend sister restaurant El Penon a few metres away. I have reviewed this separately.

Compact but first class views

Lovely small family owned hotel in the old town up on the rock beneath the castle.  Our room had 2 double beds, 2 lovely balconies and the views were simply stunning.  The bathroom, though small was quite adequate with the usual amenities except for a hairdryer which I was able to borrow from the management.  The Hotel is difficult to get near in a car to drop bags off and there is no nearby parking.  However there is a large underground car park down on the beach.  The hotel has a nearby restaurant open in the evenings.  Great value, thoroughly recommended.

Views to die for

A well renovated set of rooms in the old town just below the castle. A fantastic location.  The rooms are small but this well compensated by the magnificent view of the bay and beaches. The rooms are themed, ours was of Templars, the castle being a possession of the Knight Tempars from 1295 to 1307, and a wall poster gives a history of the castle and the Templars (in Spanish). The old town is on a rock that juts out into the sea and is well worth a visit the rest of the town and beaches are a holiday resort with all that goes with that. The people who run the Hostal are friendly and helpful and also have a very good restaurant a few meters away.
