Pleasant hostel with lots of character located in the old town and right on the Camino. Close to a number of good restaurants.

Nobody available at check in time (door was locked and phone number was not answered). Rooms quite dark and dingy and with awkward layout.

Perfectly adequate for a cheap ish one night stop.

Basic night stop with character

We had Room 1, with private bath, and would not recommend hotel on following basis: Small room, one chair, no view, old bathroom  not quite clean, unhelpful- unfriendly Reception area. Hotel is well located but there are others. A room on the other levels might be better but Reception manager just brushed us off though we are hotel occupancy was low during our stay; we felt barely welcome.

A camino stop for us, but a poor one

I am sure there are wonderfull rooms in that Pension. But the room we had was a complete horror. Very small, dark room, humid and with a bad smell. One small window that opened to an alleyway and everybody who walked by could look into the room directly on the bed when that window was open. So it was not possible to open the window, not day not night. That why the room was so humid and smelled bad: Because you can never open the window. So the room was a small dark cave. 
The noise from the alleyway and the restaurant closeby til latenight and again from 8 in the morning is not worth to mention compared to the quality of the room.
It was so horrible, that we left after one night, even we had reserved and already payed for two nights. Forget the money, but staying in such a horrible room was no option for us.

Horrible room

Instead of booking online, I called in directly. The lady does not speak English however offered a single room with full size bathroom for a pilgrim price. The room is very fresh and the bathroom is gorgeous. WiFi works immediately and the whole building is of a high quality. There is a restaurant attached but no breakfast is on offer, there is a breakfast cafeteria round the corner. Of all the places I have stayed this is certainly of an equivalent very high standard to one other location. It is immaculate. Highly recommended. I will stay agin in the future it is on my list. 

Camino stop off OUTSTANDING

We stayed in the Pension for two nights as part of our road trip. The twin room was clean and good sized. The hot water pressure was inconsistent and the walls were thin but at 80 euros for two nights we couldn’t grumble. There is a one Michelin starred restaurant of the same name underneath. Check it out.

Quirky building in the old quarter 

Nice rooms, well decorated, clean, but no phones. If you are traveling with others, no way to call them unless you use a mobile phone if they are staying in another building.. Room needs a luggage rack and a shower/bath mat for feet. Then it would be a lot more desirable. Don’t forget your key or you could be locked out and no one is around to let you in.. 
The posted comment about one glass per room seems to be correct. Rediculous. (I remedied that by going into the store room and retrieving another glass. Also another roll of toilet paper as a spare ).
Arbidel Retsaurant is first class, I wonder if Sr. Arbidel is associated with this Pension.

could easily be improved

We had a good laugh when we finally located the Pension Arbidel.  Four of us drove to Ribadesella after a day of hiking in the Picos de Europa, and had plugged the address into our GPS. The last two or three blocks of the journey to the Pension are not drivable by car.  That is something that would have been helpful to know beforehand, as we would not have attempted to maneuver our car into a place it clearly did not belong.
We ultimately parked on the street a few blocks away and trundled our luggage with us to find an empty and locked second floor office.  After 10 minutes of so of wandering around,the alley with luggage in tow, we made another attempt and were able to roust out someone we presume to be the manager, who had been busy showering--go figure!  
We had reserved two rooms, and our host escorted my husband and me to a third floor room under the eves, and my son and his buddy to another room on the second floor.  Both rooms were clean, tastefully updated, pleasant and comfortable.  I noted the absence of any bath mat, and found the floor so be slick when wet.
One minor annoyance was the outlandish size of the room key and fob.  It was cute, but of a size and weight; not easily stowable or practical to carry.
The location itself is central to everything in Ribadesella.  We found the town to be lovely, quaint and welcoming.  Overall a good impression and pleasant stay.
