Amazing food! We ordered:

(1) Braised lamb with fries.
(2) Grilled “Bonito”.
(3) “Caldereta” (amazing fish soup)
(4) Cocido Montañés

The only item I would improve is the amount of flies. They make it impossible to be relaxed.

Quality lunch! 

We actually booked this hostal at the very last minute due to our ferry from Santander being cancelled (thank you Britanny Ferries!!) and are so glad we chose Hosteria Fimar.  This is a budget hotel, reflected in the price, very clean, with good en suite facilities, but the best part of our stay were the family who owned the place and the food! As mentioned before, they didn't speak English, but with our poquito Espagnol, we managed to get by and understood what was on the menu.  We arrived in the middle of a full restaurant, being served their menu del dia and were quickly found a table.  The list of choices on the menu was enormous and we chose very well, with gratinated prawns (12 large ones) and whole sea bass cooked in the oven in a garlic broth with boulanger potatoes.  Absolutely amazing!  You couldn't find this standard of cooking in quality restaurants.  There was an amazing choice of desserts and it included our choice of a jug of Sangria - all this for an astounding 15 euros (17 euros if you aren't staying at the Hosteria! In fact, we enjoyed it so much, we returned for lunch on Monday, as our ferry wasn't until 10 pm

And then for the Breakfast - which was included in the price of the room.  There was so much choice of food on our table that we thought it was for the whole restaurant and we felt quite embarrassed at how little we could eat!  

What a lovely place, the family were delightful, Mother, Father and Daughters, we felt like family when we left and got a hug from Mama.  We would certainly recommend this place and return when we are in the area.

An Amazing Little Place

We booked the Hostal Fimar 'On Line' the night before we visited, on our way back to Bilbao after a motorbike tour of Western Spain and Portugal. On arrival  a delightful lady gave us a huge welcome but it was quickly apparent that she did not speak a word of English... and our Spanish is very poor! It turned out that at this time of year they do not open the restaurant in the evenings, except for residents, and we were the only ones.... and the Landlady thought that being English we might like to eat early and they could then have an early night... we were all happy! 

This is Low Season and after a lot of pointing and noise it became apparent that they wanted us to eat at 7 pm and have breakfast at 8 am. The early supper seemed strange for Spain but we rocked up as invited at 7 and after another lot of weird communicating it appeared that there was no A la Carte on offer. We just gave up and indicated some wine and a meal!! After a while she appeared with a very decent bottle of Rioja which was followed by an absolutely delicious mixed salad of cheese, chorizo, ham, anchovies and all sorts of vegetable pieces!! This was then followed by an absolutely excellent steak, potatoes and more salad! After a short wait we were then given some tasty desert.... not sure what it was!

The Fimar is an excellent cheap and VERY friendly night stop.... family run and the rooms are clean, comfortable with good ensuite facilities. It is fantastic value as with a very good 'Continental Breakfast' and the delicious evening meal, we only paid £22 each!! I have heard that when the Higher Season begins the evening meal is still excellent but from a much wider choice. A fine lunch is offered every day and the restaurant was still busy with lunch when we arrived at 1600, with local people..... a very good sign!

We would definitely stay there again.
