I had just stayed in 21 hotels on my travels through Spain and France.  I saved one of the best for last.  The staff were lovely both front of House and in the cafeteria.   The Hotel is a little quirky with an interesting staircase.  The room was spacious and lovely with big windows looking over the sea. The bed was big and comfortable.  The cafeteria was simply brilliant.  Not a long menu but more than adequate and the food was delicious.  The walkway was stunning and the locals enjoyed the venue which says a lot. Pricing was solid and deliberate and you feel that you got excellent value.  I will most certainly be back to visit this Hotel. I am a hotelier and therefore tend to be critical and never overeffusive.  This establishment is excellent.  It is also in very close proximity to Santander Ferry terminal

So much more than what it says on the can

We had breakfast here a couple of times and lunch once. Lovely food, gorgeous setting and amazing views out over the sea. Highly recommended. close to access to the beach 'Los Locos'. Would love to return one day.

Great restaurant with amazing views.

I remember enjoying about Ibiza sunsets a long time ago, but never had experienced such a sunset like the one experienced the other day at the Hotel El Castillo de Suances, simply amazing. 

It was mid noon, the weather was neither hot nor cold, simply perfect, we were sat outside the Hotel bar on the stone benches while the sun was fading into orange.

Lovely jazz soundtrack over the loudspeakers and having a 1/3 Voll-Damm, my fav beer brand, just in case there is no chance to mention the name, just refer to a beer whose brand manager is a famous actor with a three-day beard and with a angry looking.

Just mention, that we were there 25 years ago, (might be 25 kgs. less too) but at the beach, who can resist to visit a spot named La Playa de Los Locos (Fools Beach).

We remember, while splashing at the seashore that suddenly people began to climb up and accommodate over the rocks, when we tried to realize the sea had guzzled down the san and we needed to transform ourselves into Iberian ibexes and learn to jump among rocks to reach top of the hill.

I cannot remember if at that time it was yet a surf sanctuary, nowadays it is, besides on of the best spots we’ve been ever.

Honestly, now my fav preposition is UP.

Stayed at this hotel as a couple for 10 nights in September 2018.  We booked a sea view room and were not disappointed - the views were fantastic.  The room was spacious and whilst not exactly luxurious, it was perfect for us.  The bed was fine and the WIFI was good.  The spiral staircase is not ideal for getting luggage upstairs - but assistance was offered readily by reception.

Like most of Northern Spain Suances benefits from a spectacular coastline, brilliant beaches and a great climate.  The place has a feel of Cornwall about it - perfect for family holidays.

We travelled in to Santander (a great city) and Torravalega by bus and Santona (fantastic) by car.  These are proper Spanish town with few Brits - great adventure.

Parking was not a problem whilst we were there but I would guess could be in high summer.

The one issue is largely concerned with eating out.  The restaurants cater ONLY for Spanish tourists.  They don't even open until 8pm - which for us at least is a touch late. The hotel bar serves snacks all day but with a limited menu.

Overall a brilliant stay.

EXCELLENT HOTEL RIGHT ON THE BEACH

This unusual little hotel is set right above the beach and has uninterrupted and spectacular sea views. Our room was fun, decorated in a distinctive modern style, and had an enclosed balcony from which we could comfortably sit with a drink and watch the storm coming in. The bathroom (shower not bath) was efficient and super-clean. We enjoyed our breakfast in the restaurant downstairs but choices for lunch and evening meals are uninteresting and severely limited, so we preferred to eat elsewhere. Staff were very pleasant end efficient and spoke good English.
Those with lots of luggage or with mobility problems will find the spiral staircase - the only way upstairs - a distinct challenge.

Quirky, well run, fantastic sea views

In an old castle on a picturesque spit, this hotel could be wonderful. It isn't. The plumbing's iffy, the place is desperately in need of maintenance, and they really need to buy new mattresses. We paid extra for a room with a view of the sea; they didn't tell us it was directly over the bar. The music stayed on till past 11 and was audible even with the windows closed. With the windows open, there was no peace at all, as the outdoor tables are directly below, you can eavesdrop on everyone's conversations, and all their cigarette smoke drifts up and into the room, so you can't even get fresh air. Breakfast is just toast or a croissant (stale, one morning), and the attitude of the staff is not particularly welcoming or helpful. You have to drag your suitcases up a narrow spiral staircase -- it's a little scary, actually -- and I didn't see them once offer to help anyone with the task, not even the two old folks. We left early.

As there is no elevator, the spiral staircase might be a drawback to some. Not to us though, and even then the staff was helpfull taking up the luggage. 

The bathroom was great, though on the second floor the ceiling wasn't quite high enough for showering. (there's a seat on the edge of the bath though, so if you want to practice for old age: this is great!)

The location! Great views over the cliffs and sea. Great sunset. Make sure to have a room looking out over the beach (Playa de Los Locos). Falling asleep with the sound of the breaking waves... 

Breakfast (three decent options from the menu) is brought up to your room so you can enjoy your room and the views even longer. Clean, spacious rooms, great beds, nice furniture, friendly and helpfull staff. 

Sufficient amount of plugs and decent WiFi. 

Oh, did I mention the views?? :D
