Great, cheap place in the very center, everything is close, and you can see the circus from the balcony. The room is basic but good. It was clean enough as well, with daily clean towels. The night shift staff we talked to is a great guy.

Nice place

The hostal is at one end of Placa de la Font, so great location.
This was our go-to place for snacks at lunchtime - normally a filled roll.
The food was actually very nice, especially considering the low price.  We had hamburger and chips/ egg and chips one day too and they were fine.

The service was odd.  We arrived at 3pm on the first day and they were happy to make us rolls. Another day we sat 20 minutes before giving up. Another day our order was taken and then another waitress had to take it again as our waiter had disappeared.  The staff didn't speak much English but were always friendly enough.

So good for the food, less so for erratic (but not unfriendly) service.

Good value for a snack but service is unpredicable

This is specifically a review of the hostel restaurant—I was in Tarragona with a university program, and half of my group were staying at Hostal Noria, so I went to the restaurant a couple of times.

The food was fine enough—simple, decently prepared, inexpensive, with a good amount of menu options. The service, however, was awful—not just slow, but outright hostile, and for no reason, especially given that I later learned that the restaurant doubles as the hotel's reception area and so the opposite should actually have reasonably been expected (that staff would be welcoming, especially of someone pulling a suitcase and so clearly a likely hostel guest). 

The first occasion I walked in, on my first day in Tarragona, the server behind the desk shot me such a cold glare that I thought she must have mistaken me for someone else—I didn't know her at all, and she was looking at me as though she despised me for simply walking in and asking if I could still order lunch. Eventually some minutes after I sat down another server came by and the rest of my dining experience was fine, until I went up to the counter to pay, and the first server again gave me that same angry attitude. 

The second time, I came in for a late breakfast, was the only guest in the restaurant, and the same initially hostile server was the only server in the restaurant. She did not come to my table for 20 minutes, despite there being no other guests to serve. At 10 minutes into my wait I peered over the counter to see if she was occupied with any cooking or kitchen prep, but she was just on her phone, playing a game I think. She eventually came over, seeming somewhat sheepish, as she took my order: at that point I believed the long waiting time had indeed been intended to run me off.

I'm Black; the server was white. The only reason, in my experience, for anyone to be so demonstrably hostile toward me as soon as I enter a space has been racism. I know that Spain is in a period of great flux right now, meaning that many people—including this server perhaps—may identify people from visibly different backgrounds to them as being harbingers of negative changes in their lives. But this is a business in the hospitality sector. That behavior is unacceptable everywhere but especially at a place whose sole business purpose is hosting people, *regardless* of background. It was an unfortunate experience to have in an otherwise beautiful city. Please do better.

Decent food but hostile service

We waited 5 minutes for a person to come to us to ask for drinks. The waitress didn’t even speak english. We ordered drinks and they didnt come out until my mother went in and got them herself after 30 minutes of waiting. she then ordered our food that didnt arrive for another 20 minutes. We asked for my fathers meal on 3 occasions and they were still in the process of making them.  They finally arrived after we asked again when the waitress was serving people outside aswell. The food was standard but it was a pity we couldnt eat it together as a family

Poor service

Location was fantastic, right in the old town. The room had an old world charm. It was spacious, with a beautiful wardrobe. There’s also a balcony.
Very nice bathroom. rather than using the expensive parking located opposite to the hotel (€18), we used an underground parking that is located close to the Muralles which is priced at €4.5 per day.
All major attractions were close by. For example, the basilica was just 300 m away. The Roman walls, the Roman Circus, balcony promenade and the amphitheater were within walking distance.
Supermarket is close by as well.

Excellent

Ideal for a one night stay and to visit the city center. I was in a single room and it suited me perfectly in terms of size and cleanness. The staff is mainly concentrated on offering service to the cafe' so the check-in is a bit odd. However I was provided with the instructions on parking options vs costs and generally they were kind - just they seem not to pay too much attention. The elevator is available but only as of the first floor. Breakfast was possible in the morning and it was readily served and very cheap. The hostal is very near to the square where the city hall is: the square is full of restaurants. Inevitably,  there is some noise in the evening - however i was so dead tired that I collapsed in the bed. Overall, it is budget hotel with a good quality/price ratio. I would return.

Good for a one night stop

We had some very average servings of Patatas Bravas and 2 glasses of red wine all for a total price of 5 EUR so very cheap, it is okay but the price reflects quality. Staff are friendly and it is very clean.

I will write a full review once I've completed my visit. But my first impressions are good. Very friendly staff. Good room. Good experience so far. Bar lovely. The lady who has looked after me. Do not know her name. Is fantastic she really looks after you. Will write a full review once. I have completed my stay but so far so good. 

First Impressions

I would like to mention how inadequate this hotel is. Maybe that was what I got for what I had paid for. Despite it's proximity to the city centre (the only good thing), it is noisy, with really thin walls, I can hear my neighbouring room playing football at 1am and had a hard time sleeping. The room was also super tiny and without a desk (reconsider this hostal if you want to work in the room. There is also no soap and hair dryer provided in the room. Though u can request the bathing gel, they were in small packs, which u need to open 4 packs in a bath. There was also no lift on the ground floor, which you need to carry your luggage to the first floor before heading on a lift, which was quite inconvenient. Last but not least, although the night staff was sincere, he had difficulty understanding ANY English and need translation. A quite personal opinion, the hotel smells like sh*t. Anyway, the conclusion is I will never stay there again.

Poor

The location is excellent, overlooking a beautiful square and the parking ist just in front of the hostel. As a guest you are entitled to a discount of -50% of the parking fee. So that's a good start of your stay. The ladies in the cozy bar of the hostel are very helpful and gave us the 'penthouse', with a great view of the square. The room itself was basic, but with a nice bathroom and very clean. And of course the balcony overlooking the square. Tarragona is a bit of a mixed bag; beautiful Roman remains and ugly modern buildings. But the people are very friendly and relaxed and the food is great. So was the breakfast in the hostel by the way.
