This hotel is beautiful, location is stunning with lots of surrounding parts of the Matarranas to visit. Room was lovely, Javier was an amazing welcoming host, offering to cook us evening meals and giving us lots of information on places to visit. We extended our stay as we liked it that much, the breakfast was tasty & plentiful, the housekeeping ladies we jolly & friendly so much so they cleaned our room whilst our dog was on her own. No extra charge for the dog either. Church bells in the village added a lovely touch. Would highly recommend and we will definatley return. Thanks again Javier 

Amazing dog friendly hotel in great location

We booked the hotel for a romantic weekend and indeed it was a calm and relaxing couple of days but very active as well. The whole area (Matarraña region) is beautiful and worth spending some time exploring (Car/bycicle/hiking). Ideal for a summer holiday where you want to be slightly active. Superb food, especially for meat lovers (plenty of it!) but even for vegetarians (we are) you have good options. The hotel itself is quaint, comfy and cute. The owners (Jose and Jorge) are fantastic and always willing to help and give you the best service. 

It's incredibly quiet (apart from the bells chiming we could not hear anything!) and a great place to sleep. Rooms have a bathtub so even if you get back and you are really cold, you can always dip in. You also have a proper fireplace on the 1st floor. 

Great tast, comfort and service. Highly recommendable!!!!

Suitable for all tastes: romantic, family, adventure, quietness...

The hotel is a very nicely restored old building with nice rooms and bathrooms. It is obvious that a lot of money and time was spent on restoring. Dinner is served outside next to the church. We had some problems checking in because there was nobody there for half an hour. The village is nice enough but there is very little to do. Apart from the hotel you might be able to get some food at a place next to the swimming pool. Dinner at the hotel was very limited with only two main courses and when we went to eat they were out of one of the main courses. So, yes, a nice hotel with nice rooms but the overall experience was average.

Nice hotel, location and service less

We stayed at this hotel for a 3 day visit to the area.  The hotel is well run, modern, completely renovated.  Rooms were spacious and with nice amenities.  The breakfast was an assortment of fruit, toast, yogurts, etc.  It was perfect for me and my kids.  There was also a nice sitting room with a fireplace where we had wine and tapas one night before going out for dinner.  The host, Jose, was very helpful - suggesting possible expeditions, showing us pictures of the parks in the surrounding areas, getting a fire started for us, and, when I forgot to bring a bag home, he quickly wrapped it up and couriered it to me from another town, which was greatly appreciated.

The town itself is super cute, and we found a bunch of great activities to do with our 7-10 year old kids in the surrounding areas.  For example, the bike ride along the via verde (the highlight), hiking, castle exploring, and the vulture observatory.    

I can highly recommend this hotel, and the surrounding area for a great 3-5 day visit.

Travelling via France to visit friends near Alicante, we chose this as a convenient distance along the way - taking a bit of a risk as Google Street View hasn't yet ventured into Valjunquera's narrow streets! It turned out to be a jewel - a very old building beautifully restored and modernised. Our room even had an old out-onto-the street type toilet (now out of use and enclosed in a glass alcove - no accidental use possible!) Breakfast was basic, and village amenities almost non-existent; though there is a welcoming inn on the main road nearby where the food was superb (rustic - don't expect anything fancy) and remarkably inexpensive. Also there are attractive towns to visit in the locality, for which the proprietor provided a handy map and advice. Our SatNav got us right to the hotel's front door, but don't try it in anything large, as some of the streets and junctions are very tight.
