Very nice room, quiet spacious for European standards.  Quiet street and it had a nice restaurant.   The bed was really comfortable and had a modern bathroom. The toilet seat was a bit wonky, I thought it should be fixed soon. Very friendly staff!

Quaint place

Comfortable place to stay right on the camino trail, but a bit outside of the town of Villafranca. There is a restaurant on site which serves good food -- had the pasta and ice cream for early dinner for EUR 10. Bed was nice and comfortable, room and bathroom was clean, room had a window terrace. Service was good although it got a bit hectic during peak hours.

Good place to stay

I was staying alone and had a single bed in a small room. Everything was clean and nice. Fairly modern. I had window/doors that opened up To a balcony rail over a river with hills beyond. It was lovely. Also a great place to dry my clothes that I washed by hand.  the restaurant that was fine. I would say usual fare, only €11 for lunch. Breakfast was toast, yogurt, apple, orange juice and coffee. Didn't get warm fuzzies from the staff but nothing was bad. A little hard to interpret peoples reactions with masks on during Covid.

Small clean room for 1 with a lovely view

We stayed two nights here before beginning our walk to on the Camino to Santiago. The expectation was of a basic facility but the experience was a little less than expectation. Room had very poor ventilation. Rooms facing the street are very loud from traffic noise. Probably the poorest breakfast offering of 11 nights along the Camino Route. Essentially bread, bread and more bread. The evening Pilgrim meal was ok but we had 8 people and they seemed to forget what the agreed upon wine allocation was.... I won't say it was abjectly poor but it was below average for stays along the route.

Nice staff but not a great option

This is a restaurant with rooms directly on the Camino and our room, although very small, had a good view over a river.
Dinner was good despite our being the only customers and it should be noted that not all the items on the menu del dia were available.
Breakfast was good value at €4 but we had not slept very well as it was impossible to turn off the radiators so we had to leave the window wide open and listen to the river all night!
We were looking for a laundry but there is only a commercial one and it was closed.However, facilities can be found either in the albergue opposite or in the hospederia in the main square.
Also note that wifi is only available in the public area which is the restaurant and so not much use.

Convenient stop on the Camino

Perfectly good hotel on the bank of the river and directly on the Camino de Santiago.

Rooms are standard size and (it's February) have good heating and copious hot water.

The two reception staff - cousins I believe - have been very helpful. Firstly with a taxi booking and then with an impromptu local history lesson. Really appreciated.

Excellent staff

Casa Mendez is not a traditional looking hotel but it was better looking inside.  My room was big enough that I wasn't falling over my suitcase.  My room had wooden shutters with a partial view over the river & bridge.  The bed had a white counter pane over a sheet & a bolster pillow, which was quite comfortable.  The bathroom was ok except I couldn't operate the shower and ended up having a bath instead.
The staff were delightful and I was booked in very quickly, which after walking on the Camino was a relief.
The food was good plain cooking which was nice.
I liked the location even if it was not at the heart of the village as others have said but the next morning after an excellent breakfast, the Camino re-starts just outside the hotel.

Don't judge a hotel by its exterior!

Room was hot and stuffy no fan or air conditioning. If you tried to ope the windows and were in bed you would bang your head in the Windows . We were going to eat in their restaurant that night however when we tried to order a drink in the afternoon testing our Spanish the hostess was very rude and snapped back do you speak English. As for the bathroom the tiles were all cracked the towel rail was falling off and the shower had like a half bath which was very dangerous and one could quite sissy slip in it. We were pre booked by tour company following the Camino , we will be recommending they scrap this hotel .

Awful

I have stayed at this hotel three times already with my family (2 adults and three kids). We stay there as it breaks the journey for us when we go north to Galicia. The rooms  are amble and always clean with all the necessities you will need after a long drive or walk. The price / quality of the place is excellent. There is a great restuarant down stairs where they serve, what I presume is local fresh trout with good local wine. The spoongecake in the morning should get a prize......The staff are friendly and welcoming. One year the bar had a good list of craft beers also...but i didnt notice them this year.
