Awesome stay, beautiful location and friendly staffs, very good hospitality, food is amazing, budget friendly, worth staying with friends or family, all the facilities are amazing,must visit place, thank you

Awesome stay and staffs are very friendly

We had 3 nights here & it is a difficult hotel to rate.
The look of the building & the rooms is spartan & uninviting- not a great 1st impression unfortunately. 
The beds were quite hard & the pillows not great
We booked car & driver on to our next stop & the car was very old & had no air conditioning- not sure if this was the hotel or car hire companies mistake though 
The advantages are-
A good price right in town
All areas are clean
The staff are helpful and cheerful 
Breakfast was simple but good
Not sure I would stay here again 

Good & bad

The staff was very welcoming. I arrived very early and they were still able to get me into my room. When I advised them that I was taking the train to Kandy the next morning, they said that they would have a sack breakfast ready (waters, boiled egg, bananas and a very good breakfast sandwich). 
The WiFi was good and the TV had several English language channels.  
Overall, a good value in Ella. I would recommend this hotel to friends and family.
Also, check out the Rose Cabin Mexican Restaurant just down the road. Very good nachos, considering you are in a mountain village in the middle of Sri Lanka.

Afforable in Ella

The staff, particularly the man at the front desk (I forgot his name!) were so genuinely friendly and accomodating from the second I arrived. 
He answered all of my questions, smiled a lot and made me feel safe as a solo female traveller. 
On my last day when I had to leave at 6am to get the early train, he woke up and prepared my breakfast in a little to-go bag for my journey.
Exceptional service in a really convenient location, very close to all the attractions like 9 arch bridge, little Adam’s peak and the main strip of shops in Ella. Yes the room is basic but very clean and very affordable! Would definitely recommend!

Ella rock house was a nice change for us large rooms, hot water, private balcony and awesome breakfast included if only we stayed longer, walking distance to nine arch bridge and town, make sure you stop at the pizza pasta place on the way back 👍 he also arranged a car for us to Arugam  bay.

Wish we stayed longer

We had a great staying at Ella rock house.
After 3 nights they arranged a taxi for us to go to the south of sri lanka. This driver drove like a maniak. A lot of people drive hard and not as we're used to in europe, but this was unbeleavable. AND MOSTELY FOR 65 EUROS!!!! He drove in too smal streets almost 100 km/h and we've had oncountable almost accedents. We said to him a couple of times he needs to drive slower, but he didn't. Then we asked him to stop the car, he get's his money but we wil arrange something else for the rest of the trip. But he didn't. He drove away like crazy, almost hit a bus and said we're not getting out. We called the hotel, and said what the situation was. They talked to the driver and asked if we are going to give him money. We said 65 euros is way too much for this crazy way of driving. When the driver stopped, he trettened us that he would call the police and became very agressive. We paid him and left of. 

Be carefull with who you get in the car with, it felt really unsafe and mostely terrifying....

Good hotel, terrible taxi driver

They try, but the unprofessional staff tend to let them down.
Things like when you check in they give you the wrong wifi details. So you have to run around to get the correct info. Or after check in and every day they forget to switch the main power to your room, so you can't put your AC on without going to find the right staff member who can switch it on. Why they switch it off I can't fathom. 
It's small, off the main road,  has all the basics, reasonably clean.  Not particularly quiet, we could hear loud conversation and music late into the nights. 
The rooftop area for breakfast is quaint,  but if they get busy, then the unprofessionalism appears again with lack of service and re filling the small buffet. I wouldn't go back. 

Amateur 

Good decent accommodation just off the main road in a very quite area around the corner from all restaurants. Basic room with fun as ac was not necessary. Very good hot shower and clean bed sheets. Nice fresh clean towels and sheets replaced everyday if you ask to clean the room which you wouldn’t expect in this price range accommodation. WiFi in room 110 was not working as it was a bit far from the router but the guy at the reception kindly fixed our problem. Nice breakfast on the rooftop. Good accommodation and helpful nice host, would stay again.

Good and clean accommodation.

Very affordable rooms, so for its price, we can't fault it much. Pretty much getting what you pay for. 

Rooms are bare and basic. Not sure if I would agree with 'comfortable rooms' as their slogan as I don't think their beds were. Pillows and mattresses were flat. Bathroom appeared renovated to a modern feel and with modern appliances, however upkeeping hasn't been to the highest standards and it has accumulated a grubby feel to it. Shower and hot water works perfectly fine though.
Wifi wasn't the greatest and we found it dropped out frequently.

We had the ground floor room right behind reception that looks out into the lane. Request for an upstairs room if possible (but note there are no elevators in this building) as we found the ground floor room to be noisy. We could hear the tv in reception (though thankfully it was shut off by 8pm) and we woke up several times over the night to late arrivals and dogs fighting outside on the street. 

Perks of this hotel though were:
1) The helpful front desk man. He was helpful in giving us directions, and also accommodated our request for a late check out at the last minute;
2) The rooftop where breakfast was served. We went early at the start of the breakfast time and I'd recommend doing the same. As it was peaceful and serene up on the rooftop overlooking the town before the hustle and bustle begin. Breakfast was basic but satisfying, and going early meant the food was served fresh and still hot.
