I stayed in this place 3 nights. Very near to the main road, where you can find supermarkets, places to eat, but is located in a small side street so it is very quiet, I had a good sleep. Far from the center but with good public transport. It stayed in the cheapest room. The room is old, the walls need some painting and the bathroom is old, but it was clean. The bed sheets were clean and soft, something you appreciate in cheap places in this country, and the best of all, mosquito net!!! There is small beach one minute walking. Not clean for a bath, but very good for relaxing or do some exercise in the morning. The owner is very nice and a good man. He can help you a lot to plan your travel in Sri Lanka. In general very good guest house.

Good place, very nice stay, good value for money

We booked on agoda website payed £15 per night, this was the worst place I have seen in Asia. We have travelled for years in Asia and this place was the worst by far absolutely falling apart. Do yourself a favour don't go here. We left after 2 hrs and found somewhere else!

incredibly bad

At Dammika, what steals the show is the host - Dammika himself! He is fabulous right from giving you fresh breakfast to tips for your travel in Sri Lanka. We had gone on an unplanned trip and picked a lot of info from him - on how to use buses, which routes to take etc.

The place is a 2 minute walk from Mt. Lavinia beach and perfect if you aren't looking to stay in proper Colombo. There are supermarkets and eateries again at a 5 minute walk from the house. The room is basic but clean, especially the wash rooms are well maintained. The lobby and sitting area also provide some good space to hang out.

Lovely host, homely stay, great location!

We had a great stay here. At first we didn't feel much about Colombo, but Dammika's House was a nice warm welcome in Sri Lanka after a tiring trip from Delhi. A nice home and a guide for trips inside Colombo and around. And Dammika himself? Dammika is like... TripAdviser, Lonely Planet and wikitravel in one walking (or sitting) person. Over a beer and gin he told us about his dreams to go for parliament and get rid of the corrupt prime minister. With his knowledge this seems like a great idea. He has our vote!

A great stay and one of the finest borrowed homes we had in the 10 months being away from our own home.

Great hospitality

We stayed a few nights at Dammika House. Agree with previous reviewer, it could probably be a bit cleaner, and less cluttered however it was a very good price for sri lanka, and the colombo area. I think he was in the process of employing someone new to help so maybe that improve some aspects.  Also I think the hospitality of the owner made up for basic facilities, and some of my favourite memories of sri lanka were chatting with families/individuals we stayed with over the month we were there. He's a lovely, interesting, and a helpful guy. It is in Mount Lavinia which is a bit out of colombo and on the beach which is just average, but theres lots of restaurants around. Check out the Mount Lavinia colonial style hotel for a fancy drink too. It was easy to jump on a bus and be in the city in about 30 minutes so we didnt find it inconvenient at all. I recommend this hotel for people on a budget and looking for a more personal experience, rather then fancy accommodation.
