This is not a hotel but a family run accomodation. People coming from colombo I would suggest to take a bus and get down at teaching Hospital mahamadora bus stop. It is just 600 m walk from there. For the price it is worth and I am glad I didnt pay more and stay inside Dutch Fort area where you have options too. Neatness is based on individuals and I would always compare it based on price I pay and I am sure others also would have no trouble on it. 

Good location and beautiful villa with backwater 

The experience is like staying at a friends house with excellent home cooking and if you like your Sri Lankan food then your hosts will oblige with a wide range of authentic dishes. The family were so welcoming and friendly. Nothing is too much for them.  Rohana gave me a lift into town on his scooter and then picked me up from town in the evening, and his son Sameera drove us into town one day when we needed to visit the Bank. Yes the villa is tucked away off the beaten track but only a short tuk tuk from the Fort and the centre of town. The rooms are basic but clean with fans and mosquito nets. Would definitely stay again and it offers real value for money. It’s a lovely house, with a warm welcome that will give you a real taste of Sri Lanka.

True Sri Lankan hospitality

The owner gave me ride as he saw me on the way to his home, which was really convenient as it was a bit difficult to find. But its worth it. The garden is lovely and perfect for tea and a book. I booked 2 days and stayed 1 more. I got the cheapest room with no bathroom. I have to admit it was a different experience to shower outside but at the end i loved it to shower under the stars. The family is the loveliest Ive ever met! To be honest, I felt a bit like home because they took care of me all the time and helped me a lot as I had to go to a hospital (got bitten by a dog in Mirissa). The food was delicious! Ask for the pasta salad! 
You also can go opposite to the neighbors garden to sit and have a look at the lake which is really peaceful!

Off the beaten Track but family is so lovely

River Side Villa is a residential home in a neighbourhood by the side of a lake. There are three rooms to rent, and the family of the house take care of you. Breakfast and dinner can be provided, all you have to do is ask. I always have toast, and was supplied with what felt like an antiretroviral loaf until I said 'enough!'. Saved a lot of money on lunch that way because I wasn't hungry for hours after! We only had breakfast, but we saw other guests eating amazing looking curries with lots of little bowls of extras.

The room is basic but nice enough - not a hotel room remember but a bedroom in a house, with en-suite. I can't lie, it was the hottest room I've stayed in and we couldn't get it cool. We are budget backpackers but had to add an extra 1500 rupees on to get the AC remote. This is not unusual in Sri Lanka - air con always commands a premium!

You can walk to the main attraction of the town - Galle Fort - about a kilometre or so away - but it along crazy busy roads. Tuk-Tuk's wait nearby to the house as you walk into town, and it's about 200 rupees / £1 to the Fort. Plan to spend a while at Galle Fort, there is a wealthy neighbourhood around it with high-end cafes, bars and shops.

The owners of the house are very welcoming and friendly, lots of advice, and the house is very beautifully decorated and has a lovely garden around it.

The price is good value - if you don't need aircon! 

Lovely house with guest rooms 

this place is a little hard to find but everything else was great the family that runs it is amazing and the beds were great the diner was good for the price. its in a cool location right across from the lake and you can get good sunsets from the balcony.
