We have spent 4 wonderful days in this beautiful and happy house by the lake. It is authentic and very comfortable. Surroundings are sublime. I am a birder and I had so much pleasure to watch the sun rise and see the birds all around me. I have seen more than 60 species around including the white-bellied and grey headed sea eagles, both the Sri Lanka Grey and Malabar Hornbills and a lot of water birds (terns, lapwings, herons, waterhens...). Make sure you have the boat tour at sunset. It is magical!

Paradise on Earth

If you want to wake up and see monkeys playing and peacocks dancing in your garden, come to stay in this magical place. We woke up to birdsong in the mornings and the number of different species was amazing. If you are seeking a peaceful, natural environment to return to after visiting the sites of the ‘cultural triangle’ or somewhere just to unwind, this place could be your choice. 
The resident manager/chef is a very gentle man and even more helpful than the average Sri Lankan. We enjoyed a delicious Sri Lankan breakfast of 4-6 items every day while watching nature entertain us all around. He’s also a fantastic cook and we enjoyed many dinners that he prepared to accommodate our special requests. We had already been enjoying Sri Lankan home cooking for the past 2 months, yet his dishes were really delicious with even more subtle flavoring and aromas. Our evening meals were 6 or 7 courses and all the meals were unforgettable – salad, rice, 3 curried vegetables, and chicken/fish. Truly delicious local food with so much variety. 
There are only 2 rooms, both with very comfortable kingsize beds with 4 pillows (first time in S.L) and private bathrooms. The water in shower and sink are solar heated in a large tank. The air conditioner and ceiling fan both worked well and very quietly and a mosquito net was provided. The room was clean and had a wardrobe and separate clothes rack. 
The walk on the dyke around the lake is pleasant and you will see elephants carrying tourists down the road. The lake is not visible directly from the house as the dyke around the lake is raised, but we didn’t mind as there was enough monkey and peacock activity in the large sunny garden to keep us entertained.  The local residents swim and bathe in the lake in the afternoon when the water is quite warm. As an added bonus, the manager/chef made my husband a bamboo fishing rod and they went fishing in the lake every day. He was in heaven even though he didn’t catch anything big enough to eat!
We planned to stay 7 nights and decided to extend for 2 more nights as the service and meals were so outstanding and the environment was so tranquil. 
Additional perks: We were picked up from the train station for free, even though the train was more than an hour late and they had to go twice for us. The station is 10-15 min by tuktuk from the guesthouse. 
The WIFI is fast.
