Kurunduwatta Villa (also known as Hikkaduwa Homestay) is a peaceful place to stay in Hikkkaduwa.  The rooms and bathrooms are clean, the breakfasts are good, and there is a large grassy yard to sit, read, and relax.  It is conveniently located close to the train station and bus stop and is a short walk to a swimming beach.  Of course, the best part of a stay there is the host, Ananda.  He is very welcoming, knowledgeable about Sri Lanka and the local area, and tries his best to make your stay in Sri Lanka enjoyable.  He also has a yellow Jeep, and if he is not too busy, may be able to drive you to interesting locations.  Indeed, I enjoyed my stay at Kurunduwatta Villa and with Ananda.

Wonderful Sri Lankan Hospitality

My friend and I arrived on the 31 January in the morning after an arduous trip from India and was exhausted but we were welcomed with such friendly hospitality which seamed to ease the exhaustion and put us in a better frame of mind we found Ananda and his mother to be lovely hosts although she cannot speak English Ananda does very well. Although they are vegetarian and I’m not it did not seem to be a problem as the food Ananda cooked for breakfast was lovely the grounds and house were very nice the house being Dutch colonial from the 18 hundreds four poster beds and antique furniture made the whole experience of living there a treat. Ananda also was only to pleased to take you of on a sightseeing trip to take photos he took me to name but a few Tea plantations, Galle fort, the moonstone mines, and some lovely beauty spots. Hikkaduwa is also very nice with friendly people good restaurants and a few good shops the Sri Lankan tea is superb the best I have ever tasted to sum it up Ananda,s homestay should not be missed it’s a good base to go exploring from I’m just about to take the train across the mountains as it is apparently one of the best Scenic train trips in the world. Ananda's Hikkaduwa homestay

The Singhalese Villa might not be the newest, but the traditional spirit and the friendly host overcompensate this by far. I only stayed there for lunch, but had a really nice time with delicious food and interesting talks. If I come back to Hikkaduwa I will spend my nights there for sure. If you want real Sri Lanka, this is where you can experience it!

Authentic and heartwarming place to be!

Ananda is a wonderful host. His lovely home is full of charm,  character and history with incredible antique furniture it is like something out of a book. breakfast was delicious and plentiful and Ananda is a fascinating guy to chat to. He provided us with lots of good local tips and couldn’t do enough to make our visit comfortable. The home and gardens have to be seen to be believed and we recommend anyone coming to Hikkaduwa to visit and spend some time there. Thanks for looking after my family mate, we will see you on our next visit to Sri Lanka

We loved this homestay

Coming for a second time I arrived and the moment I am there I feel a real sense of ease. Very relaxed environment in nature, Ananda can literally not do enough for you. 
I was not feel the best with my health and he suddenly added a few certain types of vegetables to the food and a couple of days later I was back to full health. Ananda and Louisa's cooking is some of the best I have ever had and you can literally feel the love it is made with. 

I also got the opportunity to plant some coconut plants which I was very happy with and they even let me cook dinner one night some in their kitchen for them which I know can be a sensitive request to some people who are so passionate about the food they eat. Very welcoming and always engaging and educational conversation on the table. 

Thank you both and look forward to seeing you next time I am in Sri Lanka.

The property has a long family history where you can almost breathe the past time events.
All your staying,as long as you would like,will be plenty of History,Culture and Traditions from Sri Lanka given by Ananda.
He also schedules Tours to very interesting places.
The meals prepared by Ananda,are very typical cyngalists.
