This is a wonderful place to stay.   The rooms are basic, but absolutely quiet, clean, and safe.  The food is extraordinarily good: both breakfast and dinner.  You can sit under the covered eating area and look out over the pond, watching birds, monkeys, and deer each evening.   Lahiru and his mother are excellent hosts, very open to answering any questions you might have about Sri Lanka and ready to help organize excursions or your onward journey  and or invite artisans over to display their wares… but only if you request this.   It is a gentle and peaceful place to stay where you will feel very comfortable.  And it is well located for a quiet walk or easy access to the archeological sites via a short tuktuk ride.

A quiet paradise…

Stayed here for 4 nights and the service was superb! Lahiru, his mom & Tharindu made us feel very welcome and homely! The rooms and the bathrooms were clean, ample space in the garden to walk around and relax, calm, safe and quiet surroundings where occasionally you will come across deers walking about in the garden.

It’s situated within walking distance to main sites (5mins walk). Bicycles can be rented from a nearby place to do your sightseeing.

My rating for this places is 100/10. I spent three nights here along with two other friends and we had a pleasant and peaceful stay. Absolutely love the location and its calming surroundings. The place is well maintained with clean rooms and bathrooms. The food is delicious.

Lahiru, Tharindu and aunty goes the extra mile to ensure that the guests are comfortable and they are very attentive. They were so supportive throughout our stay and their amazing hospitality made our trip even more delightful.

Clay Hut Village offers great value for money and this will be my go-to place to stay if I ever visit Polonnaruwa again. I would definitely recommend this hotel for a wonderful holiday.

Authentic Sri Lankan hospitality 

Our stay there was excellent-clean and quite room, great delicious food home made by the owner (breakfast and dinner) The host is very kind and friendly man who helped us with anything we need to know. You can also rent bikes there and ride along the canal or use it to visit Polonaruwa ruins-very useful! And dont forget about the garden, its soooo green:)! You can see many animals there-birds, deers, squirrels and "watch out" monkeys which can visit you at the breakfast to take some fresh fruits from your table;)! Definitely highly remended!

Beautiful calm place with super kind owner

We met Adjit the owner by chance in the train and it was just incredible! We spent 2 very good nights in this beautiful and relaxing place ! 
The bungalows are spacious, quiet and comfortable. The area is full of nature, so calm and peaceful with a big garden and wild animals (dogs, cats, monkeys ...).
And special mention for the FOOD which is AMAZING ! So generous and tasty ! Both breakfast and dinner ! Loved it !!

A bit far from the center but you can manage it easily with a tuk tuk for 200 rupees.

Lucky hasard !!!

We really enjoyed our time at the Clay Hut Village.  The staff were friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble.  The room, although basic, was spacious and clean.  The food was fantastic and plentiful, beds comfortable, with both air-con and a ceiling fan to stay cool, and good hot water in the shower (which was needed after riding bikes through the ruins all day!).  The guys helped us source bikes with kids seats which we were able to return to the village rather than the entrance of the ruins where we picked them up (again, super handy after a long hot day as the village is only about 300m from one of the exits of the ruins).  Lots of wild life for the kids to enjoy too - including a friendly goat who walked us to breakfast one morning :) We highly recommend the Clay Hut Village!

What a great find!

Great stay...it is quite far from anything else but that its beauty...the owner couldn't be more helpful including arranging to return our bikes to his place which meant we could leave the ruins by a different exit and avoid riding back on the main road. The homestyle Sri Lanka food was awesome...had to request smaller portions! Even though the pond was low this time of year, we still spotted a number of kingfisher and woodpeckers. Quite lovely.

Loved it!

The place was situated right next to the ruins. Owner was so friendly. Even though the cook was not there the owner made us an English breafast which we enjoyed so much. The place was neat. Given price was so worth with the distances to the town and ruins. A cool environment and will definitely recommend and revisit. No complaints from me :)
There are mosquitoes even with the AC is on so great if mosquito nets were provided.

We had an amazing stay at the clay hut! Ajith and his son really try to make your stay as nice as possible. They made us the most amazing food we had in Sri Lanka, they also arranged the trips we wanted to take (safari, sigiriya, sites,...). The rooms are basic but with a very good location (right next to the sites) and there is a nice garden.

Great time

I selected this place based on trip advisor comments, looking at nice images and the simpler nature of the cottages. However, i found that it was inaccurate.

After a long journey and visiting some monuments, we arrived the place around 2.00 pm and had to knock the door for few minutes to wake the staff...Then without even a greeting, they took another few minutes to confirm and show us the cottage demonstrating a super lazy and careless service.

Although the cottage was basic, but it was fine and the place was really nice & quite. however, it was noticed that the property was not regularly maintained. once we arrived the cottage, we found that a bunch of civet cats were screaming on the ceiling. then we informed this to the person who was in charge but without any care and politeness, he replied that he cant do anything on this. Then we replied that we are going to inform booking.com (which we used to book this property) however, then person-in-charge was so arrogant on us arguing "do anything you can" . then he replied that dinner cannot be provided as the cook is on leave. So despite a tireless day, we had to leave for a nearby restaurant for dinner. Needless to say about the sleepless night when civets are screaming on the ceiling. it was really terrible. Finally we left the place in early morning as it was the most unpleasant stay in Sri Lankan budget B&Bs . 
Dear Travelers, avoid this place if you need a calm and relaxed stay..!!!!! Although the place is nice and quite, staff is terrible. They are not acknowledging  any service complains. good surroundings . But utterly terrible service...!!!!
