This place is wonderful. Me, my wife and two of my friends stayed for two nights. The atmosphere is fantastic. Their free and unlimited tea/coffee service was exceptional.  It is a creative idea for all other hotels. It feels like home with maximum safety assured. Their hospitality is incredible. Would one hundred percent recommend this place for both local and foreign travelers.

Wonderful stay at D’Villa

D’Villa Guesthouse is absolutely wonderful. It is exceptionally clean, very charming, and comfortable, managed by a lovely couple who are very sweet and helpful. The cozy porch is a great place to read and chat with other travelers, and the breakfast is delicious, home cooked Sri Lankan Tamil food. If you want to feel at home while exploring Jaffna, this is the perfect place. As a solo female traveler, I especially appreciated the safety of this guesthouse and the care of the owners who assisted me with finding local transportation and answering all of my questions. I highly recommend D’Villa in every way and I will certainly stay here again the next time I’m in Jaffna!

Wonderful guesthouse!

We spent four nights here recently & really enjoyed it.  Guest house is located in a nice quiet neighbourhood.  The owner was away & Hilda the housekeeper looked after us so well.   She is a wonderful, kind & thoughtful lady who did so much for us, including laundry.  She also prepared a delicious breakfast for us daily & gave us handy tips for sightseeing.  We were very sad to say goodbye to her.  Thank you Hilda for looking after us so well.

A Very Pleasant Stay

Pros:
Communal kitchen with tea, coffee and fridge
Good customer service 
Very nice fresh traditional food (extra cost)
Television in room
Great wi-fi
Good bed - had a great night's sleep

Cons:
My room was unclean (furniture sticky, bathroom sink clogged, a light switch had dirt you could scrape off)
The water from the communal kitchen sink sometimes emitted a foul odour, which smelt revolting.
The bill wasn't itemised, so you couldn't see how much the food cost, plus there was no card payment facilities.

If you're a light sleeper, avoid rooms by the train line. 

In summary, you get what you pay for. The distance from Jaffna town would be a deterrent, if I was not with a vehicle. This place is cheap, but sometimes paying more is better than compromising on some things; and obvious and visible grubiness was my turn off.

Cheap with great food but lacks hygiene

TripAdvisor didn’t exaggerate on this one! All the glowing reviews about D’Villa are real. We spent one week “at home” in Jaffna. Dilan showed us Sri Lankan hospitality at its finest - from clean rooms and living area to arranging tuk tuks for us to go about Jaffna to recommending different restaurants and activities. Couple things: breakfast at D’Villa is five stars. My 9 year old wanted me to make sure we mention that in our review. Every morning we had a different traditional Jaffna breakfast - the vadais, idli, dosas and curries were tasty and satisfying. The fresh fruit each morning was lovely. On the day we left early so we could catch the ferry to Delft, we had breakfast boxes with delicious sandwiches, sausage and yogurt. 
For other normadic mothers traveling with kids I need to say the following: the bathroom while being a wet bathroom (no glass shower partitions) was really well done and so if you like myself worry about looking at a dirty floor it does not happen here. 
Laundry can be done here and it is super reasonable.
There is a desk in the bedroom and the living area has a table large enough should you need it for any schooling.

At Home In Jaffna

My wife and I stayed with Dylan at D’Villa for 3 nights in late June 2019. Dylan was a really nice guy and as well as providing great well-priced accommodation, he organised an excellent half day tour around Jaffna for us and we also hired cycles from him and he organised a load of laundry for us too. All really good and at fair prices. 

Excellent guest house

We arrived, Hilda the housekeeper was very welcoming, showed us to our room and gave us fresh lemonade.
Dilan is very polite and friendly. The room and amenities are clean and comfortable. The area is nice and quite.
Breakfast is a bargain, good food and very spicy.
Local eateries abound. 480 LKR for 2 kottu and water and was way too much food.
Would recommend and would stay again.

Such a lovely place

This was a fantastic place to stay. The rooms are big & clean. Beds are comfortable. Bathroom was good. It’s down a quiet lane but still close to the city. The housekeeper Hilda is delightful. Dilan the owner cannot do enough to help you. He lent me a push bike to ride to the liquor shop (there’s in just down the road!) & hired me a scooter at a good price
Breakfast was huge & varied & they have a fridge, tea & coffee provided & a lovely outdoor balcony area. I couldn’t fault it. Great value for money. 10/10.

Super comfy and clean rooms. Nice balcony to chill. Fridge,tea and coffee is also available!! And Hilda(the housekeeper) is such a nice and helpful person. I would definitely suggest this guest house!

Cozy place outside the noisy city

We stayed 4 nights at Dilans guest house and it was lovely. Dilan, his dad Anan and Hilda the housekeeper were all so welcoming and helpful. This is why you stay at a guest house! We had great conversations about life and history in Sri Lanka, and they helped us with all arrangements. The rooms are quiet (except for 2 early morning trains!) and quite comfortable, breakfast very tasty, and scooters available on site if you wish. Overall a great experience and highly recommended.
