Great location, excellent local food, beautiful rooms and comfortable beds. This is my second stay this year both for about a week. There are only 3 guest rooms...so it is not crowded, large common areas including library and deck. 
For those into architecture this house was one of Geoffrey Bawa  early builds, really ahead of its time. Nice touches with embedded art into the wall

Style and location: I keep coming back

Best place to stay in Kandy!Very friendly and kind staff! Really recommend it! We spend two perfect evenings at the beautiful terrace chatting and relaxing! Breakfast was also very  tasteful and traditional!!!!

Best view and top staff!

Wow - what a view, I wish we had stayed for longer than one night to take in the beautiful sunset and sunrise over the hills of Kandy. It really did feel like a hideout, so tranquil and calm. Just what we needed at the end of a long day travelling. Putannesh was so accommodating, offering refreshments on arrival and he even packed us a breakfast to go as we were leaving early morning. When I am back in Sri Lanka I will definitely be staying here again!

The beautiful Buena Vista view 🤩

A beautifully simple property perching high above bustling Kandy. We had ten days here and were treated so well. The room had a glorious view of Kandy, was spacious and kept spotlessly clean by the manager Puvanesh and his father. The bed was very comfortable and large, with lovely gold edged quality bed linen. The added bonus was to have the choice of air conditioning or ceiling fan, as we found the choice of fan useful in drowning out the early morning wake up call from the station below! I should add that train and car horns are a common background accompaniment in Sri Lanka. 

There was always enough hot water, from the room's own individual geyser, heating up fairly quickly if the previous person had showered for too long. My one wish would be that the shower room could be updated, as although it was absolutely fine, an update would make it so much better. 

The food was outstanding. The breakfasts were easily the best we had on our trip with not only freshly cooked Sri Lankan dishes but also eggs and sausages every morning, as well as toast, jam, fruit juice and fruit. We ate here every evening too and were treated to a different, delicious combination of rice and curry every night, apart from one night when Puvanesh cooked a tasty biriani and another night when we had a change with flavourful chicken soup and pasties - possibly requested by other guests as why would anyone not want rice and curry!!?

Bueno Vista's advantageous position is something you may need to take into account - being on the hill meant a steep climb up from Kandy city. This made it a wonderful retreat from the pollution and noise of the centre of town and there was always a cool breeze which offered respite from the heat below. It did mean that the climb on foot could be quite a challenge but we did find it was a good way to keep fit. Alternatively, there was always the option of a tuk-tuk ride up the hill.  You just couldn't beat the views of Kandy Lake, the Temple of the Tooth and the surrounding hills, which were spectacular and so good for the soul.

I have no hesitation in recommending this delightful guest house. Puvanesh and his father were superb hosts and we certainly hope to be able to return in the not too distant future.



Hilltop retreat from the bustling city

Fantastic place to stay. Wonderful rooms and amazing view. Great food. The host is very kind and the atmosphere is peacefull. Perfect for couples. They have a really nice tuk tuk chauffeur (Ravi) who will take you anywhere for a reasonable price. I would have liked to stay for many more days. The place is clean en spacious.

Clean, great view, great food. Loved it!

Where to start with such an amazing place to stay? From the breath taking views over the city of Kandy, to the best home cooked food in Sri Lanka. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel like we were part of the family. Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts who looked after us so incredibly well.
Looking forward to returning soon, and will definitely be booking the Buena Vista again for our stay.


Such an amazing place to stay.

I did a lot of research on where to stay in Kandy before our trip and I’m glad we found Buena Vista Kandy as we really enjoyed our one night stay there. The property is beautiful. It’s located on top of the hill with lovely view over Kandy and Temple of Tooth, away from the busy Kandy city centre. The centre can be reached easily by tuk tuk or by foot. Our room was spacious, clean and nicely decorated. The staff is very accommodating and friendly. Dinner and breakfast were also very tasty and generous. All in all, a wonderful stay. 

A hidden gem in Kandy

We loved our stay in this refuge above the Kandy hills. The staff are totally wonderful; nothing was too much bother for them. Delicious food - breakfast on the verandah in the sun on our last morning was a special treat after heavy rain the previous day. The only thing really missing (apart from the Picasso plates in the kitchen doorway) was any evidence of Bawa. It would be wonderful to see the appropriate architectural & design input into any future refurbishment.

Perched above the hustle and bustle of Kandy this relaxed, homely three bedroom hotel was a pleasant respite with fantastic views. The staff are wonderful and the food is fantastic. Very comfortable beds and very clean 
 

Heavenly respite

Situated at the top of the hill with an excellent view of the lake. Not recommended if you do not have transport as the nearest shop is at the bottom of the hill so come dinner time you might be nibbling on anything you have in your suitcase. 
However there is dinner available at a cost of $12 meat & $10 vegetarian, to be ordered latest by the morning.
We did have dinner on our 2nd evening and the food is a MUST TRY. 
Beautiful, tasty and authentic Sri Lankan food.
The hotel is run by a father and son who were very pleasant and accomodating.
Hairdryer and utilities in the room.
Just tea/coffee facilities missing in the room, although the son was happy to make tea when asked.
