Lovely welcoming hotel at Coconut Point, a gem of a place, especially for surfers. Tranquil, yet friendly beach away from the crowds. Stunning sunsets.
Excellent restaurant and service, weekly fish barbecue not to be missed. A week wasn’t long enough!

A Sri Lankan Gem

Fish BBQ night on a Wednesday- absolutely fantastic. Great food & atmosphere.
So much food beautifully presented & prepared.
Didn’t stay but looks really nice & owners- English are very welcoming.
Good selection or reasonably priced drinks including wine.

Lion’s Rest is a perfect place if you like surfing and/or travelling with kids. The people are really friendly and flexible, there is a nice pool with lots of toys and it’s close to the points and the natural pool. The rooms were big and clean and the breakfast was very nice. We booked 2 days and ended up staying 6 nights.

Lovely place with friendly people on a great location

Lion‘s Rest got recommended to us by two friends who‘d stayed there previously, so we decided to stay there while visiting the South Coast and the Weligama area. From the first warm introduction by Ayesh onwards we felt welcome and immediately at home. Lion‘s rest is a really special place, which we highly recommend if you are looking to explore the area around Weligama, Mirissa and Galle. And at the same time want to stay in a more quaint and less busy charming fishing village. You have everything in your proximity: beach, ayurveda treatements, restaurants and cooking classes. Food at Lion‘s rest was really good. Everything very clean and well kept. Staff was amazing. Ayesh, Prasaad, Kalhara and Steve helped us with everything. We also tried yoga at the property, which was good. And definetly recommend the ayurvedic massages. They were incredibly good. Another highlight was meeting Lucky, our surf teacher, who also helped us with exploring the area further and organised a great barbecue at his own guesthouse. After a little less than a week Lion‘s Rest already felt like a home away from home. When in Sri Lanka next, we‘ll definetly be back! Thank you to the Lion‘s rest team!

A home away from home

This place is absolutely amazing! Not only the hotel itself, with all beautiful facilities and excellent food, but the whole staff that from the first second make you feel so welcome and comfortable you do not want to leave! Treat yourself to Lion’s Rest!

What makes this place so special? 
The people! The location. The vibe. 
Ayesh and his wonderful team are the friendliest, most attentive, kind, helpful and fun hosts you could ever wish for.
The location is peaceful, with beautiful views across the village green to the sea. 
The hotel is restful and has an extended family feel with only 8 rooms, so you get to know other guests, share holiday stories & tips for places to eat & explore. The curry buffet is amazing! We can’t wait to go back. Thank you Lions Rest team for making our holiday so wonderful and refreshing.

Every Day Beautiful 😊

This was our 4th trip to Lion's Rest. We love it.
Our sons love to surf and the hotel is in a prime location for all the local breaks, sitting right in front of coconuts break.
The village green out front has a few vibrant but quiet drink spots under cover where people congregate to watch the surfing and the sun go down early evening.
Ayesh the manager is so helpful and friendly - nothing is too much trouble and if anything needs doing (our ac broke) he is on it and it is fixed straight away.
The two main barmen, Kalhara and Preetesh are both excellent and work hard to keep your glasses filled and your plates full.
The beds are large and the rooms clean with English plug sockets. The wifi is an also really fast.
They run weekly curry buffets and fish barbecues which are excellent, but if you don't want to eat in overnight there are a host of other restaurants nearby.
Yoga is available on the covered yoga deck and having a pool to freshen up in is great.
They have a surf instructor, Lucky, who lives next door and can give individual or family / group lessons.
Sri Lanka has become more busy over the years, and less cheap (although still cheap) but it is a friendly and safe place for travellers; always a smile from the locals.
There is a dedicated board room to store surf boards and a night watchman at the gate so all very safe and secure.
I would thoroughly recommend staying here for couples / families, especially if you love surfingDat trips can be arranged to various spots such a safari, Kogola lake, Galle or the nearby tea plantation.
tuktuk are readily available outside the hotel and most places cost £1 - £2 to get to.
I summary - a small, family friendly boutique hotel in an excellent location for exploring south Sri Lanka.

perfect location for surf and fun

We had an amazing stay at Lions Rest. We were with two young kids age 2 and 4 and the locality (right at the sea with a surf break and cute small beach huts where you can get cheap drinks and food + at the edge of a small village with restaurants and shops) and the facilities at lions rest (clean comfortable and cool rooms, restaurant / bar with child friendly food/snacks, your own fridgespace, WiFi, chill area and pool) made it a superrelaxed holiday (even with two young kids and we really needed that ;). What I also really liked is that it small scale. Only a few rooms. In the mornings and evenings there was yoga for some me-time. Not to forget the staff; they were super accommodating and friendly and also (also with the kids). There were also fun to hang out with. Would definitely recommend this place!

Loved it!

Lions Rest is truly a special place to stay. Michael and his team made me feel very welcome, the rooms are cleaned daily and very comfortable, the food was consistently good and there is a back up generator so no loss of air con / WiFi. The location is by Coconut Beach where the surf is good, perfect place for a sundowner. When I had a virus the staff arranged medicines and got me an appointment with a local doctor. They really go above and beyond at Lions Rest and I hope to return in the future.

A little overpriced for the area, however the battered fish & chips were excellent @ LKR3,500 per portion. The large Lion beers were also above average price @ LKR1,000. It was very quiet when we visited, but has a lovely garden & pool area, so a relaxing atmosphere.
