Worst restaurant in matale with bad quality foods and very bad customer service. I won't recommend anyone to visit here. Poor management and no proper maintenance. Cleanliness is zero with no hygiene facilities.

Worst restaurant in Matale

Although the property seemed worth for 3025/- for a double room, we were quite dissapointed to see the size of the room. It was just the size of a double bed and a small passage of about two feet wide to walk to the wash room. The room and the bathroom was clean however it was too old and doesnt seem very well maintained. The room doesnt even have a square pin shocket to charge ur phone and when requested for a multiplug they didnt have one.

Exterior and the garden of the property is very appealing but inside is very gloomy and old looking.



Extremely small rooms

At Rp.3025 for a double, this property offered excellent value.

We came by well patronised train from Colombo, changing to the busy branch line train to Matale, the latter offering a bargain fare of R25 single per adult.  Sri Lankan Railways are excellent.

It is 100 metres off King Street and extends much further back.  It is stylish: in Australia we would call it bordering in Art Deco.

There is a grand entrance with small circular driveway, a porch that has WiFi access, a large but gloomy dining room and bar and four rooms.  Ours was up 15 stairs with a table and chairs outside.

The room had a double bed with a green bottom sheet and two separate make your own top sheets.  There was a long cabinet and more upper shelves.  A mosquito net, good overhead fan, excellent curtains and a bedside table with lamp were in the bedroom.

The bathroom was almost fully tiled in black with some green and yellow, a colour scheme also used throughout.  The roomy shower had reliable hot water.  The vanity basin and toilet were clean with nice period windows in both rooms.

It was great waking to the sound of beautiful forest birds.

Breakfast was served adjacent to the well maintained huge garden and included banana, papaya plus papaya juice, watermelon and pineapple, toast with woodapple jam and excellent bacon and egg plus a large pot of tea for R620 extra per person.

Staff were great.  Tuk tuk drivers were courteous.

Atmospheric and secluded in beautiful gardens

Hotel clover Grange is the only Decent place I could locate at Mathale town itself.
It Is amzing to find a place to stay with a large  Garden in a location like this.
just 100 meters to the Main road and Hop step and a jump to the center of the City where you find most of your requirements. plus Transport.
The beauty is  it is so quiet being so close to the City ,may be mainly due to the location. 
The owner of the Hotel Nihal is a very amiable gentlemen always ready to help and provide information . The room adjoining the main Hall (the Bar) is convenient,  The Bathrooms need a bit of attention but reasonably good and clean.
The rooms upstairs a bit small better to have a look at before deciding.
all in all it is a very good place to stay

Value for Money.

Travelling on professionals work , we had a training program in Hotel Clover Grange Matale. The hotel is tucked away down a short lane from the main road and it is  surprising to see such a property , a well maintained Hermitage home and beautiful  garden with birds and butterflies in the middle of the town. 

Arriving at night it was a bit disquieting to find a large number of person in the bar downstairs .But there was no noise at all so they were all silent steady drinkers!! The bar itself is worth a second look with its interesting carvings.

The rooms are built adjoining the main house ;they are very very clean and well maintained. Clean sheets and freshly laundered towels were provided. It is small room but has enough storage space for luggage etc and there is a tiny sitting area where one can eat, have tea if you dont want to go down to the main house. The hot water actually runs! There are no  amenities provided except soap. The charges are very good for the service provided and the staff helpful. The management is very selective in their choice of guests and the premises re nice and quiet. 

The food when it came was plentiful.And the next day at the conference the food and service was excellent.All together quite a find in Matale  and to be seriously considered in visiting sites around the town.

In the clover

We were cycling around Sri Lanka and stayed two nights in this hotel. We enjoyed it a lot. The garden were we could eat outside, the nice owner who told us about Sri Lanka and the nice clean rooms. 
A recommendation!
