My family enjoyed an amazing stay and wish we had booked longer! 

The Guesthouse is family run and they are so warm and friendly. They went out of their way to make sure our stay was the best. 

Rooms - 2 double beds in our room. Great for a family of 4. Hot shower and had everything we needed. 

Food - we ate dinner and breakfast here and we were not disappointed. Huge portions. We definitely did not go hungry! Reasonably priced too. 

Location - quite remote. On the edge of a Lagoon and a 5-10 minute walk to the nearest beach. 

Plenty of wildlife can be seen from the grounds. Lots of bird life. Peacocks included!  

Would fully recommend staying here when visiting Sri Lanka. A great base for watching the turtles on the beach. You can also kayak nearby too. There is also a swimming pool.

We would definitely would go back and stay when in Sri Lanka again.

This is a special place & was a highlight of our stay in Sri Lanka. The area is so quiet & the hotel grounds are like The Garden of Eden! You see so much wildlife from the restaurant, which is next to the lagoon. The owners are warm, friendly & helpful - they arranged transport to our next destination & a tuk tuk into town. The rooms are comfortable, with AC & a lovely bathroom & the terraces all look over the pool & the lagoon. Only a few minutes walk to the stunning beach, which is breathtakingly beautiful.

We stayed 5 nights in January 2024. Second time we stay here. First of all, it’s a family run small hotel, only 6 rooms, and really some of the most friendly and caring people we have met in Sri Lanka. The rooms are nice, A/C, every thing functional. Big terrasse or balcony. With view of the garden and the lake, this is both filled with birds and animals. You feel as you are in zoo then you eat breakfast in the little restaurant. The food is really good, don’t miss out on the excellent breakfast, at the same time they feed the birds and squirrels! The pool is only a year old. Good size, part of it for small children. It’s kept really well, very clean. I like that they have there own Tuk Tuk. Very convenient . Thank you for a wonderful stay, hope to see again next year. Svend and Lise

Back again. Still a lovely place

Wonderful place! Beautiful, tropical nature, a swimming pool, and comfortable, cozy rooms with beautiful terraces. The entire facility has only six rooms, making it intimate and peaceful. The owner is very helpful, smiling, and hospitable. You don’t need to go on a Safari, as there are plenty of animals on the premises, including birds that you can observe from a distance of 1 meter during meals. The cuisine is delicious.

Smiles beauty and total value for money

Nice place! Very nice owners, good rooms. It's in a very relaxing area. Lots of birds in the garden, good food at their on site restaurant. Would stay again. Price is also affordable for an AC room. thank you 👍

Nice people

It's called Eagle's Nest, but to be fair, we did not see any eagles here. What we DID see were at least two dozen other species of birds that we could recognize from the handy home-made directory kept in the lovely restaurant at the place, and two dozen more about whom we kept wondering till the end of the trip. Right from Peacocks, Kites, and Seven Sisters to Herons, Kingfishers, wildfowl, Golden Orioles, and Egrets. We were woken up each morning by the sweet songs of birds, and slept each night after staring wondrously, and running behind, attempting to catch innumerable fireflies, which 'invaded' the complex as soon as it went dark. The only sound you hear throughout the day is that of birds, and cicadas at night.

The rooms are basic, but have everything(we had taken the AC rooms, the AC worked just fine, without any voltage-related issues) you need, including hot water in the bathrooms. But you will anyway not be spending much time in the rooms, so why bother. You would either be at the seating area outside the rooms, looking at the greenery, and the birds on the water of the adjoining marshlands(and occasionally, trying to catch the sound of waves crashing on the nearby beach), or you would be staring at the sometimes azure, sometimes blue, and sometimes green waters of the Indian Ocean at the most spectacular and empty beach you will find anywhere. That's just a 5-7 minutes walk away. A slight detour, and you reach a small bridge on a pretty as a picture lagoon. Cross it, and you are on another shack, where the rocks tame the wild Ocean waves into submission, and you can swim(and get sunburnt, sigh) to your heart's content.

But these are just places and locations, you could find them at many other destinations, right? But what you will never be able to find is the sweet and innocent smile of little Arosh, whose favourite dish is 'fruits', or the ever-smiling faces of Nimi's husband and brother-in-law(the trio run the place like a well-oiled machine, but in a lot more personal manner than a machine, of course), or the unfettered, unstoppable laughter of Nimi, when we pointed out to her that she had missed out on billing us for a couple of meals. Yup, it's that kind of place, you need to be careful about your math, else you just might end up paying less than you should :-)

Yes, there are no shops or restaurants nearby. Yes, the place is far from the (very ordinary) town. Yes, the rooms are not fancy. Yes, there is no wifi in the rooms. But then, would you have the same concerns about paradise?

P.S. I fell ill for a couple of days during our stay, and was worried that it was COVID. When we told Nimi about it, we were expecting her to freak out and get concerned about her guest house and her family. But she was only worried about my health, and made urgent phone calls at night to arrange for a COVID test for me first thing next morning. I was negative, thankfully, but will always remember the kindness of this family with all my heart. Thank you so much.   



A Little Slice of Paradise

We came again staying for nearly two weeks after our stay the previous year. We have already been traveling Sri Lanka so when we come now we just look for a tranquil and calm  place to stay and relax. 
If you like to enjoy nature, kind hospitality as well as comfort and great service then we can highly recommend staying at eagles nest cabanas. 

Ask for the first cabanas if you want a wooden/ more natural one. The other two cabanas are also beautiful and offer more space. 

These guys will do everything to make you feel welcome!

Also the neighborhood and the beach is really magnificant and i have been to many beaches in sri lanka. :)

Second stay at this great place!

The most wonderful place I have ever stayed.
The beach, mangroves and surrounding area are stunning, the wildlife is incredible and the rooms are flawless.  The lovely family who run it are the most kind, helpful and thoughtful hosts you could ever wish for, and they all work really hard to keep the rooms and the beautiful garden looking magnificent.
They have their own little restaurant on site, right by the lakeside.  Here you can watch dozens of different species of birds as well as monitor lizards, chameleons, chipmunks and butterflies whilst choosing from a great menu of fantastic home-cooked food, with both authentic Sri Lankan and international meals, drinks and snacks available.  They have even made photo albums detailing the local wildlife so you can find out what you're watching!  I've never seen so many different species in one place.
The food and the rooms are incredibly good value, and I really can't fault anything.  A short tuktuk ride from Tangalle centre, you're well away from the bustle of the town here yet it's still very accessible.   More importantly, you're 5-10 minutes walk from THE most fantastic beach I've ever seen in my life.

Very beautiful hotel with only 6 rooms, so you are not bothered by other people, has view to the lake with birds on it!) The long beautiful empty ocean beach for swimming and mangrove lake is also near so you can explore it with kayak. Good big choice of fresh and delicious food! Rooms are very beautiful like small bungalows, each has a balcony with table and chairs. Inside the room you can find all you may need and very big king size bed! Rooms and all the area is very clean and beautifully done with many birds and varans and squirrels around. The owners are very nice family, very kind and helpful, doing all the best for people! They speak English very well and can organize any tour or airport transfer. I highly recommend this place for families and couples and for people who are tired from the noise of the city and want to stay quiet on the nature without facing tourists around)
