After my family and I first stayed in another hotel in Tangalle, which had no real flair for us, we spontaneously decided to change the location and went directly to Pastissade Beach the next day and moved into the house with the two rooms. We were immediately warmly welcomed by Samith (the barkeeper) who got us some coconuts from the palm tree. We were immediately enthusiastic about this place, because it triggered exactly this magic feeling in us, which we had missed before. The rooms are clean, stylishly designed and the view is phenomenal ! Between the palm trees and the hammock you have a direct view of the beach and the sea. The beach is clean and absolutely paradise. The water is a little bit wavy, so that you can't really swim in it, but it is enough to cool down.  From time to time, some tourists walk on the beach or stop in the Pastis Cafe that is located beside it, but otherwise it is deserted. For the first time we had not hoped much from the food...I mean it is "only a beach cafe"....but we were very wrong! The cook prepared us fantastic and homelike food around the clock, so that we passed praise to the kitchen every evening...the owners spoiled us every day from morning to evening. No matter if it was delicious cocktails or special wishes for which the waiter drove to the village - every wish was fulfilled. We simply had to extend our stay so that we spent 4 days there. It felt much longer to all of us, as we experienced so much and built up a really familiar relationship. The owners always tried to make sure we had the best time of our trip and also made it possible for us to go on excursions, like a canoe trip or a massage in the village.
We would come back anytime and think it's a must-see, must-do, must-taste & must-feel of a Sri Lanka trip !

Best place for an unforgettable vacation !

We had an issue with a double booking and after an initial reply offering a solution, the manager did not return our emails, calls or texts until the free cancellation period for one of our bookings had ended. So we lost some money there, which is obviously our fault, but his inaction meant that we were unable to come to a compromise which was upsetting.

The place itself is in a gorgeous location, and our balcony room had amazing sea views from bed and was a nice clean, spacious, airy room. Aside from this though, there is nothing good about it. The manager is there a couple of times a day, but apart from that the place is staffed by a load of teenagers. They were helpful and sweet but it took them 20-30 minutes to boil a pot of tea and make scrambled eggs and (consistently) cold toast for 2 people every morning. No other people waiting to be served, just us. Yes, not a huge deal but it shouldn't take that long, and was the least nice breakfast we've had here in 3 weeks. The bed is very saggy, you can feel the base when you lie on it and it rolls you into the middle. 

They also didn't tell us there was a download limit on the wifi, and after it hit that limit, the wifi was so slow we couldn't use it. This was a problem for us as we had to work this week and we specifically chose this place because our friends said it had good wifi. So we had to go next door at Shiva's (lovely place) and use their slow but steady wifi. Very annoying. We told them they should tell people this in the first place.

Water pressure in hot shower was incredibly feeble. The mosquito nets and the window grills both had holes in them. A sign outside our room said the room would be cleaned every two days. It was not cleaned once in 5 days. Also every morning instead of getting woken by the lovely sound of the waves, we were woken by their guy sweeping the sand incessantly. There's also a very annoying loud bird living in the wall next to the bedroom who makes a lot of noise at night.

I'm probably sounding very picky and difficult here, but we were frustrated with our experience. There are so many lovely places along this stretch of coast which serve food whenever you want (no restaurant here) and have lovely social spaces and views that are just as good or even closer to the sea. We spent most of our time in those places, Shiva's and Mangroves etc... better off there unless you're cool with a hands-off approach and aren't so picky like us :)

Unhelpful with a double booking issue, nothing to recommend apart from the view and room quality

Beautiful location, perfect beach, awesome views from the balcony room, clean, small hotel, great food nearby and afffordable Lion beer! Highly recommended if you are a chill traveler. It feels like you are at a small fancy resort when you are in the room, but the staff is laid back and definitely does not feel the need to wait on you hand and foot! I would stay here again in a heart beat though!

Lovely

You should stay here if:
 - you want to be right next to the beach
 - you dont mind minor inconveniences
 - you are looking for a reasonably priced
 - you are looking for tranquility
You should not stay here if:
 - you are particular about conveniences
- you have a problem with small insects and animals
- you are looking for active and vibrant life (activities)
Pastissade Beach resort was a decent choice. The location was a plus point, albeit a little away from the main road and a wee bit difficult to navigate to. But its right next to the sea.The rooms are nice and large, with 7/10 sleep quality, and all have a great sea view. The beach is right next door, with a convenient walkway connecting your rooms to the beach. They have thoughtfully provided shower/wash facility before you reach your room, to help wash away the sand
Rooms are nice, but have enough corners and crevices for small toads, lizards. Also, there were mosquitoes and flies. There was no TV (although we did not miss it at all!)
Food was ok, but not too much choice for vegetarians
Staff was friendly but slow
All in all, it looked like an informal place with not much importance given to everyday conveniences. If you're looking for something at around $70 per night, close to the beach with some degree of privacy, it could be a good choice. But I think, families, especially with elders and small kids may find it a little off

Great beach, average property

The best thing of this place - is a perfect location on a wild and peaceful beach. I stayed at a double room on the first floor of a new building directly on the beach with very nice and comfortable terrace and a really amazing sea view! The room is big and clean, no AC only fan. There was no mosquito net but were insecticide applicators in sockets so I was not disturbed by any bugs or mosquitoes at all. There were only two geckos who had fights sometimes and cried out loud but most of the time all three of us lived in peace and quiet :-) WiFi was slow but available in the room. Breakfasts were good but unvaried. Staff was nice and always ready to help with everything. You just need to ask them a bit in advance. I definitely can recommend this accommodation for relaxing and enjoying nature.

Great place for tranquil stay

We had the upper room of the beach house. It is very spacious with a large balcony right on the almost empty Marakolliya beach. The lagoon is also paradise. The rooms and bathroom were very clean and the staff were very friendly. Only the breakfast was not quite as good as elsewhere. We stayed for a whole week and even longer if we had stayed it would not have been booked already. For us the top accommodation in Sri Lanka.

Execellent service and clean,  comfortable rooms. Fantastic for a calm relaxing stay. Food is prepared in house to suit your palette. 
The surrounding environment is quite and is ideal for families as well with joint rooms available

Great chilled out spot!

We were lucky enough to stay in the first floor of the little white building with an amazing view of the ocean! The staff is great! A bunch of cool, nice guys who listen to us.

Having had to look for accommodation at the last second on Tangalle (thanks again to the owners of Mangrove Cabanas.....), we landed there a little by chance and we didn't regret it at all! There are only 2 bedrooms, the place is very quiet and on the beach. The room was very spacious, the bathroom too and there was even a dressing room!! The terrace is very nice, the garden too and there are shady transits a little further down the beach. For 4000 Rps at night (without hot water), the only thing we regretted was that we only stayed one night!!

That's very nice.

It's hard to define a hotel as an accommodation that offers only two rooms but here you feel completely at ease. It takes a certain amount of patience and time dilation because dinner (only by reservation) and breakfasts are prepared by the guy who manages everything but in an environment like this I spend the days enjoying the sweet doing nothing. It's the place where I felt most comfortable.
