We arrived at Horathapola after a night flight and were greeted with a warm welcome, the accommodation was lovely, spacious and clean and we appreciated the calming environment. We were the only guests and loved making use of the pool and enjoyed having a walk around the plantation in the afternoon. We had a candlelit dinner and the Sri Lankan cuisine was delicious at both dinner and breakfast. Our stay was short but we’d happily recommend this location for a stop over before or after a flight.

Perfect pit-stop

Set in a tranquil coconut plantation less than an hour's drive from Colombo Airport, it's the perfect introduction to Sri Lanka.  The staff made us feel so welcome and were always on hand if we needed anything. The air-conditioned rooms are simply but comfortably furnished with antique furniture from the colonial era and the large shower/wash room is partly open to the elements. The food is first class. Traditional Sri Lankan meals, with ingredients sourced exclusively from the estate, and cooked over wood fires. We only stayed one night but could happily have stayed longer.

A perfe3ct introduction to Sri Lanka

One of the most beautiful and peaceful places we have ever been to! The house itself is tastefully decorated with large windows, which let in lots of light, wooden floors upstairs and several verandahs where you can sit and read or just enjoy the birds. If you enjoy reading, there's a priceless collection of books to suit everyone's tastes!

Our room was large, airy and very comfortable along with a spacious washroom and shower area.

The Sri Lankan food was excellent and every evening our table was beautifully decorated! Isuru and the staff were always on available but never in our faces. 

Take a walk around the estate and enjoy the abundant flora and fauna and just breathe in the fresh air!

Luxury amidst tranquility

We ended our 2 weeks in Sri Lanka with 3 nights at Horathapola Estate. It was the highlight of our holiday. Our room was beautifully appointed, the food was delicious - by far the best we had in Sri Lanka - and the gracious, unobtrusive care given by Isuru and his team made for a relaxed and  interesting stay. We would go back in a heartbeat.

Perfect Stay

Horathapola Coconut Estate was our first stop on a three week trip around Sri Lanka, with our eleven month old - and what a very special place to begin! Horathapola is a true sanctuary - the grounds are beautiful, pool the warmest outdoor pool we’ve ever been in, food plentiful and delicious, and service faultless!

A beautiful start to our family travels in Sri Lanka

Beautiful boutique hotel that tailored our stay to our requirements.  The setting is incredibly tranquil so a great start to a hectic tour of Sri Lanka.   Isuru and the team catered superbly to my complex dietary requirements and I had some of the best food I’ve eaten for a very long time. The ox cart ride they arranged was really interesting for both adults and children and we were also invited to the local market.  Isuru and the team were amazing - very attentive without being imposing . We would definitely recommend this hotel.

Stylish boutique hotel in beautiful, tranquil location with amazing food and fantastic service

It was amazing. The bullock ride was amazing and I thoroughly enjoyed the pool. Breakfast was  amazing and the fruit was so fresh. The pineapple juice and coconut water was so refreshing. The staff were also extremely friendly and knew all the facts about the estate. In conclusion I think this is a key destination for when you visit Sri Lanka and is defiantly worthy of the rating of 5 stars

Amazing estate

Beautiful secular trees, well designed and maintained garden. I come back in this property after 18 years to find everything better, the garden grown and the facility expanded. The staircase, upper floor rooms, lobbies and verandah, have a wooden floor smooth and polished like in a last century yacht. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious and perfectly clean and maintained, with ceiling high of around 4 meters in the upper floor and even more in the ground floor. The views of the garden are beautiful from each windows in all directions, the natural light that penetrate in the living and dining area is energizing. All the staff is very professional and look after us very well.

A place to unwind.

The perfect place to unwind after a long and trying flight to Colombo.  Thamara and his staff really spoilt us.  As soon as we arrived, we were made to feel at home and given tea and homemade brownies.  The food was excellent and we wrote in the visitors' book that we doubted that the quality of food would be matched during the rest of our tour of Sri Lanka and that proved to be true.  The food is prepared with organic produce from the estate and the pineapple juice in particular was brilliant.  We were taken on a guided walk around the estate and to a coconut factory and also enjoyed a bullock ride in a charming vintage carriage.  We particularly enjoyed watching the birdlife around the beautiful swimming pool.

Peace and tranquility  in a beautiful estate

Excellent place to relax and enjoy a long weekend. Since occupancy is not as many of the bigger hotels. This is outstanding. 
Friendly staff. Delicious Food Cooked. Home grown vegetables from the garden available. Our group had a village style lunch followed by a BBQ for dinner.
