We booked a deluxe double room on booking.com for 55€ including breakfast for 2 nights. We got a little luxurious and dark room, with lots of mosquitoes. Also all mosquito nets on the bed and windows were covered with holes. The high price for the room is not in any way justified. Since we had 100 mosquitoes in our private bathroom, we used only the public bathrooms. These were admittedly modern and clean. Even the normal bedrooms gave a more comfortable impression than the del double room. Also, that we didn't get any recommendations for the next room.

It's uncommonly expensive for a dark room with lots of mosquitoes.

Accommodation with a very good atmosphere and very close to the beach. The very friendly owners and facilitators. The standard room has little light and no A/C. In general, for its price is highly recommended.

Good value for money

Hostel First is a budding chain of hostels for and by travelers! It has a great vibe, especially for the creative oriented. It offers a great fraternity for solo and couple travellers and a sense of calm in the busy tourist town of Mirissa. The staff and guests are very helpful, cordial and fun! They have a lot of activities going on always to make your stay in Mirissa very memorable :)

Charming place with a creative buzz!

Hostel First was the best hostel I‘ve been to in Sri Lanka. The owner is a very kind and decent American guy who takes care that bathrooms etc. stay clean (unfortunateley not a normal thing in Sri Lanka- but here bathrooms are thoroughly cleaned twice per day and the towles & beddings also seemed to be really washed and not just perfumed lol). The atmosphere was just great which is probably also due to the garden with it‘s table for giants, the bright and cozy common room and the fact that the hostel had a  large kitchen with free filtered water and a cute dog taking part in hostel life :). Breakfast was also good, typical hostel breakfast toast & jam but also fresh fruits. Me and the other travellers I met and Hostel first really enjoyed our time! Staying there gave me a feeling of being at home! 
PS: Close to the beach, restaurants, shops & supermarket near by and they also offer snorkling tours etc! 

Best Hostel Sri Lankas so far!

I had a super pleasant stay at this hotel, its owners are very attentive, the place is very clean, the breakfast is complete and the rooms are very comfortable, so when I return to Mirissa I will definitely come back here because I have stayed in other hotels in the past and they are far below what they offer here.

Excellent atmosphere and very welcoming.

I stayed for two nights at the hostel and it is really easy to find and in a great location near the main supermarket, restaurants, cafes and just a short walk from the beach. The staff are extremely friendly and I enjoyed the movie night we had on the second night. The graffiti work done in the hostel is really impressive and the whole vibe of the hostel is laid back and perfect for the beach. They have free filtered water, tea and breakfast. They also have a very cute friendly dog. I really cannot wait for my next trip to Sri Lanka to stay at hostel first again! 

Beach vibes friendly hostel

The hostel had a chilled out vibe to it, people just coming and going, relaxing in the bean bag chairs etc, so much so that I found it difficult to meet people here. There was quite a few families at the time I was there also so they weren’t interested in chatting about travels. The breakfast here is nice, loved the fresh fruit (pineapple and watermelon on different days), toast and jam etc. My room did have air con however like everywhere in Sri Lanka, there was so many power cuts, pretty much nightly for 1-2 hours. Sitting in the room in the dark with the light from your phone can get so hot and claustrophobic but the staff who work here have portable electric lights that they set out on the tables in the common area which is nice. The kitchen here is very large, you can use any of the amenities here (including all the spices), the fridge they just ask you to label your things, it was so nice having cold drinks on hand for the sweltering Sri Lankan days.
The beach is very close, and its well frequented with other travellers so you won’t have any issues if your on your own. The waves can be very strong so make sure your a good swimmer if going by yourself. 
 

Nice place

This hostel was safe (for Sri Lanka, that goes a long way), the staff is friendly, walking distance to the beach and coffee/Restos. Meeting ppl is really easy here. I booked the AC room, it had mosquito net, a locker to store things (bring your own lock) and was comfortable. There’s only 2 showers & 2 toilets in the hostel but surprisingly there was never really a line up.

Great friendly vibe

I came here by accident as we couldn't find my original booking. But they were more than accommodating. Nice clean rooms, friendly staff, adorable hostel dog, and a nice selection of food available. Perfect location, tucked away but just a 5 minute walk to the beach and 1 minute walk to the main Street.

Chilled out friendly hostel

Hi, I booked first hostel for one night and in a couple of hours of being there, I knew it was the place I wanted to spend the rest of my week there and luckily stayed for the next 6 nights. The staff, all, are very friendly and welcoming, not only do they give you the best tips but they go out of their way practically to make sure you get the best out of your experience. The beach is a 4 mins walk, there are two convenience stores 3 minutes from each other and it is also a 3 mins walk to the main mirissa strip. The hostel is very clean and there is breakfast served every morning. 

They have a great area for socialising with other backpackers and holiday makers. 

Milo, Hamza and Hidesh all made my stay very welcome and I cannot thank them enough.
