Great little guest house.  Our host and family were super friendly and helpful, including taking us by TukTuk to Kolgalla, and arranging very reasonable onward transport to Tissamaharama.  They also greeted us with delicious iced tropical fruit drinks!

Great Guest House in great location

The property was as expected except for a few things that the owner has changed and is relevant to Sri Lanka at the moment:

1. Power Cuts - the owner does not have a generator
2. Owner has built a separate side entrance with steep wooden steps
3. Owner asked us to cancel our booking on booking.com so he can avoid paying government taxes and the 10-20% fee to booking.com - we declined as we would be charged 30 dollars and it would leave us with no protection.

The wife let us in, she did not look happy, I think she does not want people to stay there anymore and the owner does, it seems they have some sort of issue as she was always having a go at him and she was rude to my partner - asking her to take off her shoes before climbing the steep wooden steps. When another couple arrived we found the husband did not ask them to take off their trainers. I raised this inconsistency with him later and said he had tried to speak to his wife about this.

A bigger issue was the first two times I met and spoke to the owner, he spoke about how prices are high in Sri Lanka for gas, electric, food and more and that he does not want to book his place out anymore. We felt he wanted us to leave, he was moaning and I think he forgot that he is providing a service. The icing on the cake was when we left, I spoke to him about the economic crisis in Sri Lanka and that surely bringing tourists in would help with the foreign currency issue. Soon after we left he cancelled the booking on booking.com so we paid 66 dollars and before this he offered me to pay him 58 dollars.

Personally, this family lives downstairs and has two young children so their circumstances have changed. I think the wife does not want people in the upstairs of the property anymore. Overall we didn't feel welcomed until after the initial day as we had spoken to booking.com who had spoken to him about asking us to cancel the booking.

The actual room itself was good, spacious, clean and with a balcony. However I would avoid staying here as the family is downstairs and you can hear the baby and they look through the windows when you leave, enter to come to talk about money as they want more money from you. They don't understand that tourists form part of the answer to the climate in Sri Lanka.

I would say this is a common theme at the moment in Sri Lanka, about people getting frustrated and trying to get more money from people tourists and acting in an unintegral manner. 

To me the owner did not seem savvy enough, his property is good enough to book out and make good money from. His speech about life is hard seemed to contradict the property and what he was able to serve us for breakfast. 

Bottom line is, we paid for 2 nights and they did not make us feel too welcomed, it was more like tourists are a burden to them.

Owner forgot he was providing a service

Incredible place. Really amazing host who helped us book whale watching, gave great recommendations, even drove us to Galle as the train wasn't running! Lovely room super clean and perfect location. Defo check it out. Can't recommend enough

AMAZING HOTEL and brilliant owner!

We enjoyed it so much, we were so warmly received. The rooms are so clean and cozy and the breakfast was very tasty and varied. It's about 10 minutes walk from the beach and right in the center but it's still quite quiet. However, the best thing about the homestay was the super lovely owner and his sugary sweet little family. He gave us so many tips and was super warm and hospitable. We were completely satisfied and can only recommend the guesthouse ☺ Ps. Go to the no.1 dewmini roti shop :)

Everything was good, the room is clean, the breakfast is more than enough.
The owner Charith is a really good and helpful man. We could count on him everything.
Recommend this place. Good location everything is near.

Very good hotel in Mirissa

We only planned on staying one night however straight away we asked to stay another night. 
It was in a great location- could walk everywhere. Owners were lovely, Breakfast beautiful. We would definitely stay here again. 
you won't be disappointed.

Great short Stay

Even before we went there, we had many questions that were answered promptly and in detail via email. The welcome was warm and extremely friendly. 
Our host arranged us a pick up from the airport which was there on time and had the agreed price. Our host arranged all kinds of activities auch as spa appointments, a safari, transfer to Colombo, whale watching and even took us shopping with his tuk tuk. 
The room was spacious with an AC, ceiling fan, mosquito net over the beds and a big bathroom. All was very clean and cleaning service as well as fresh towels were provided. 
The location is excellent! Only 2 minutes to the whale watching at the harbour, 3 min to the beach and 2 min to a tiny shop selling water. 
Despite its great location, there was no noise at all. We value silence a lot and were extremely pleased that there was no beach music or any other noise. 
The breakfast changed everyday ranging from superb local food to european style. The tea is delicious and you can eat your belly full. At the end of each breakfast came a fruit platter of various tropical fruits and curd with honey. 
Our hosts and their lovely little daughter were always smiling. There was no problem finding either him or his wife downstairs to help with questions. Them being around all the time also ensured security and safety.

The accommodation was amazing.
We felt so welcome by this lovely family.
The room was clean and everything new. We had air conditioning and a great breakfast.
The owners helped us when we had any questions.
We really can recommend this place.

Place to stay in Mirissa

We stayed in Braveresort in beginning of February and enjoyed our stay there. It’s a lovely homestay with a very helpful, friendly and genuine host. The room was spacious, clean and had air condition. The host helped us arrange whale safari and the breakfast is the best we’ve had during our time in Sri Lanka. The accommodation is close to the beach, about 0,5km, but a bit further away from the restaurants, roughy 1km. There was a very small table in the room but we would’ve wanted a low table or stand to put our luggage on, otherwise an excellent place to stay at. 

Excellent place to stay in at Mirissa

I can warmly recommend staying in this place to everyone who is planning going to Mirissa. Hosts\owners are really kind and helpful people, making everything easy for you. Location is great too, there's only few hundreds meters to the beach and in the town. Friendliest place i have stayed in Sri Lanka.
