One of the nicest places we stayed in Sri Lanka!
The setting of the resort is lovely and peaceful with excellent facilities and a really nice pool.
The room was very spacious and comfortable with A/C and a very comfortable bed.
The staff were incredibly helpful - for organising transport and tours and giving general advice.
The highlight of our stay was the absolutely incredible meal prepared by the resort's chef - a huge feed of Sri Lankan Rice and curries. It was absolutely delicious and the nicest food we had while in Sri Lanka. 
Our only complaint was that we only stayed for one night and didn't book for longer!
Overall could not recommend this place more, thank you to the wonderful staff!

Brilliant experience and the nicest Sri Lankan food we have had!

On the surface this resort is wonderful. It has good sized rooms and bathrooms (hot water most of the time), a huge pool and the view and birdlife is stunning. The staff are very helpful and the home cooked food was lovely. However, if you scratch a little deeper, there is need for further work... the pool was a bit cracked and dirty and rooms could do with a bit more TLC. The description in the hotel booking websites is also misleading. I booked the whole place (which stated 7 rooms) however, we were told we could only have 6. There was confusion over a room for our drivers, which we thought was and extra room but at the end of the stay they said not.  We also believed we would have access to a "shared" kitchen - this certainly was not the case and the cooks did not give us access. When we arrived I was asked if I would cancel my online booking (to avoid commission fees) I said I would if they agreed to do our laundry for free. This was agreed verbally, however, at the end of the stay we were presented with an extortionate bill for a few bags of washing saying no such agreement had been made. They also accused our drivers of being drunk and loud - as far as we were aware this was not the case and they phoned the tour company to complain instead of coming to us... we certainly did not hear or see that behavior - so I am not sure what caused that dispute. The manager was lovely to us at the start of the stay but at the end became quite rude and agreements we thought had been made suddenly did not exist. If you stay here make sure you keep everything above board, do not make any deals with them to cancel bookings etc. It is lovely but I wish our stay had not ended this way.

Stunning location, slightly rough around the edges...

We recently had an exceptional two-night stay at Bird Song Leisure Resort, and it's undeniably one of our best experiences. Seeking relaxation after exams, the resort, now under new management, exceeded our expectations.

Nestled in lush greenery, the sunrise view was breathtaking, creating a serene escape from our busy lives. The staff, friendly and welcoming, added to the positive atmosphere. Despite initial hesitations based on reviews, the decision to stay proved to be immensely rewarding.

The resort's captivating vistas and warm staff make it an ideal spot for quality family time. The food was excellent, and the abundance of birdlife around the resort was a delightful surprise. A morning walk at 6:00 a.m. offers a mesmerizing experience with the harmonious sounds of chirping birds.

While there may be some areas for tiny improvements, it doesn't diminish the fact that it was a nice stay. Having stayed in numerous hotels, Bird Song Leisure Resort stands out for its unparalleled sense of freedom and relaxation. This gem is a must-not-miss experience among our travels.

A Beautiful experience

To start with the staff were very helpful and assisted with booking taxis/Tuk Tuks also offered to help with any help we needed with a Safari.

The first night of our stay in room 21 we had in excess of 50 plus mosquitoes and they were hesitant to change our room until I said we would leave.
We were then given room 22 which had a few mosquitoes as expected and not a problem, the room was basic but clean with exception to the bathroom which wasn’t very clean by any standards.
Our neighbours in Room 20 left the hotel on their first night also because of a mosquito problem.

The pool did look fantastic but unfortunately was very dirty and the steps weren’t even visible when standing in front of them and I definitely wouldn’t have gotten in.

I didn’t try the food and I’m glad after my next experience.

Not sure how to write this part, Animal lovers I’d advice not reading this part and just avoid the place altogether! It made me leave the hotel that night!

As I walked around the side of the hotel I was met by one of the staff looking suspicious and sheepish.
When I seen what I assumed was what he was doing there was a small Green Turtle cut in half, still alive, with an axe type tool next to it, the poor thing in my opinion was in considerable pain and something I believed to be inhumane and from a small amount of reading ILLEGAL!!!
And I’m sorry if that is incorrect it should be in my opinion and if it is legal then it certainly shouldn’t be carried out in this disgusting way in view of paying customers.
It is a sight I will never forget yet I wish I’d never seen it, made me sick to my stomach…

I wish my stay had been better 😢

Not a Review for the faint hearted

The location is really spectacular.
The hotel is located on bordering of "Yodha Lake".
The view from the pool is superb.
The staff is super friendly.
The food is delicious and its always customizable .
The service is topnotch.
Thanks a lot for lovely hotel and the service staff.

Family outing 

The owner can also arrange it for you at a reasonable price and the contacts are excellent. It has clean, well-equipped rooms (TV, refrigerator, hot water, dry hair, air conditioning and private terrace). The bunk is good. You can enjoy a super swimming pool with views of all kinds of birds. The garden is large and very pleasant. The breakfast is more than pleasant and excellent! The dishes of the restaurant are also. The owner is there to meet all your needs and his employee is always smiling and kind!

Nice place to stay , location is ok , breakfast was great,great view for bird lover, little far from main area but peaceful place .. Anand is the man for everything you need ,he will make it possible.  Loved the morning breakfast..

We higly recommend this hotel for cheap price at thissamaharama town.near to visit yala safari.always birds in inside of hotel area. Behind the very nice colourful paddy field area. So if you come tissamaharama choose this hotel for your family...

Nice owner and great service

Stayed at the Hotel for two days and the experience was wonderful. Staff was very polite and friendly. Rooms were big and most importantly, very clean. Dining area in upstairs has a stunning view where you can enjoy a chilled afternoon with your friends and family. Food was very good too, you can order variety of meals but recommend the local cuisine as they served incredibly tasty and filling portions during the stay. If you love bird-watching, you really dont have to go to Yala because this area is crowded with countless number of bird varieties in the morning.

Great Hotel with Friendly Staff

First of all, the location is great if you want to observe birds. The kind of room service is disadvantageous. It's not cleaned after a hard day in the national park, although the boss promised it. When we arrived, the room was not clean. So I'm saying they were just too lazy to do anything. Otherwise, it's okay if you just take the sink in your hand once. Sorry, just lacking.
