My Mom and I stayed three nights at Elephant Lake Yala and it was such a cool experience! The campsite is remote and wild with gorgeous views of the lake at the main lodge. The tent is large and simply outfitted yet comfortable. The staff is very attentive and kind especially Kemunka who attended to our every need. The food was really good - we are vegetarian and the chef did a great job of catering to our needs. We scheduled our safari through Elephant Lake. Damien, our guide, was an excellent host while at the campsite and in the safari park. He’s very knowledgeable and informative. If you’re looking for a fully immersive nature experience, Elephant Lake Yala is really great! 

Super cool experience!

Our recent stayed at Elephant Lake Yala was incredible. The hospitality received from all staff was warm, in particular from a gentleman called Kemanke who rushed to our room whenever we called even at 4am in the morning. Right from the moment we arrived we knew we had chosen the best place. Our room was pretty basic, however included all the amenities anyone would need to be comfortable during their stay. The best thing at this place is that you truly feel isolated from the rest of the world, if you are looking to get away from the traffic sounds and the noise of the city streets, not a sound can be heard for miles except from the night time Birds and Crickets. Our dinners were spent by the lake which we looked out onto and watched local fisherman catching fish. The food were delicious with great variety.

We chose this place because we could include a safari tour into a accommodation booking, the overall cost for the 3 days for two people including the safari tour was the best compared to other places we looked at, that offered a similar package. The difference being we had a extremely qualified tour guide called Damien, who also stayed with us at the same camp site and joined us for dinner on occasion and told us stories of all his safari adventures. We could not rate this place more highly it has a fantastic earthy feel, topped off with exceptional customer service. For anyone who is considering staying at this place. Do yourself a favor and go there and experience the magical surrounds of what this place has to offer you wont regret it.

Amazing property with amazing staff!

Stayed here for only a night - arrived too late at night and left too early to make most of this beautifully located stay. They were very accomodating with our last minute changes for arrival and preparing a great dinner meal for us. It's right on the lake so at night time we were watching the animals on the lake and even saw some crocodiles!

Highly recommended

The hospitality by Sumit and his team was absolutely overwhelming. I was the only guest in the resort for a day and I was taken care of really well. The food was great. As mentioned on the website there was dinner under the stars and everything seemed perfect.

The phone numbers provided on the website do not work. There are plug points and a water heater in the room but they don't work, when asked Sumit, he said it would be done next week. However, the only plug points that work are in the common area. 

The safaris were a tad bit disappointing. The driver is inexperienced and the naturalist didn’t really have much knowledge. If you are a hardcore nature lover wouldn’t recommend the safari from this place. The route they take is a pretty basic route where you have too many vehicles and it's more like a race inside the national park than a safari. If you plan to do a safari from here request for a safari from Katagamua side which is less crowded and good landscape. It's about 45 mins drive from the accommodation. 

The tents are perfectly pitched. There’s no WiFi in the tent. WiFi is in the common area. The ac and water heater are still being set up. I would give this place 7/10.

Great hospitality, but not good for safaris

The hotel is quite okay with basic amenities. For vegetarians be prepared to carry good along as not much options. The pool is okay as they don’t clean it much besides that the hotel is okay and a nice stay is you are going to stay for a night. Try the chocolate milkshake its amazing

Be advised, the camp site is away from the town center and the last 15 minutes is via 4 wheel drive - arrange to meet the hotel staff at the main road and they will take you to the camp site. Phone ahead.

There is no WiFi in rooms only in the common tent. No phone charging in the rooms - charge phones at common tent. No hot water - if you are quick the water is tepid from the tanks.

Rooms are spacious and clean - for a tent.

We walked around the site every morning before breakfast. Vast array of animals by the lake. 

Dinners are of a very high standard. Better than you would expect from a 4 star rated restaurant. The staff will set a table outside the camp with a fire.

If you can, visit this hotel / camp. If you have fussy teenagers, you might look st other options.

Great Place - Great Staff

Normal vehicles cannot access the camp easily, so the staff drive out along the rough track (about 15 minutes) to pick you up from the dirt access road. We drove to the camp after an afternoon game drive in Udawalawe national park, so it was getting dark by the time we arrived and our driver had gone off to find somewhere to stay himself before we realised that the people who booked it for us had not organised dinner at the camp. The staff very helpfully drove us into town (about 45 minutes) for a meal at the Regal cafe. We were the only guests in camp both nights of our stay, though they had been busy the week before and had bookings following our stay. The camp is in a remote spot, with a beautiful lake nearby and plenty of wildlife wandering around. The room (chalet/tent) was very large and quite comfortable. There was a bath and a shower, though no hot water and the cold water was slightly sulfurous. The first night, it was a bit chill by the time I was ready for a shower, so the water was a bit chill, but after a hot day game driving in the national park it was quite comfortable. The staff pampered us with our evening meal the second night, setting up a table over near the fire (and friendly local stray dogs who have adopted the place)  as well as for breakfast our final morning. There is quite a bit of work to do around the place to bring it to a high standard, but despite this, we had a comfortable and very enjoyable couple of nights.

Enjoyed everything about our stay. Great to be away from tour groups encountered at previous hotels.
Husband and I were the only 2 guests for 2 nights. All staff were friendly and attentive. Prabath led us on a lovely walk around the lake, he is very knowledgeable about all the wildlife and was very helpful, even delivered us to meet our safari driver at 5am.
Dining by the fire watching the stars and listening to the sounds of the night was incredible.
Tent was comfortable and although hot water was intermittent it didn’t really cause me a problem.
