Very, very basic room, very dirty and half broken facilities. It was very disappointing to spend the night here. The door didn't even lock properly. The worse accomdation in my 4 weeks travelling in Sri Lanka. Never again!!

Very dirty, basic and half borken facilities. A no go!!

Our party of 5 booked one triple and one double room for one night. We arrived on the 25th April around lunchtime and was told by the owner that he "thought we'd have lunch and come", when we specifically requested lunch to be prepared for our entire party. As our plan was to eat and rush off to Yala to catch a mid afternoon safari. But point to the hotel, as they had lunch prepared within 40 mins of clearing their misunderstanding. 

The food was good but the dinning area was outdoor and under a tin roof in the scorching sun. Water goblets (or more accurately, milkshake glasses) were placed on the table but we had to specifically request for water to be brought to the table. Ice cream was served after the meal. 

The AC in the triple room didn't work mid way during the day and one of the employees "fixed it" with a piece of packing tape - stuck on to the blades of the AC to keep it open. We then requested a table or pedestal fan for the room as the overhead fan was not working. 

Before turning in for the night we specifically mentioned that we will be checking out in the morning at 3am and we settled the bill. We obtained an employees' phone number as they had to unlock the gate for our vehicle to leave. Come 3am the next day no answer on the number provided so we went knocking on the owners door. Another very disgruntled employee opened up the gate for us while muttering curses under her breath. 

So if you are looking for a place to stay that fits a backpacker budget, this is the place. Don't expect basic amenities to work 100% of the time.

Unremarkable

The Accomodation was reasonably good for the price, the service was really good.
This place is best to book a safari with the passionate Safari Guide Mr.Tissa.
We were the first Car in the row to enter the Park. The whole day, from 4am to 5pm, Mr Tissa wholeheartedly guided us through the park.He provided insights to the great diversity of wildlife in Yala National Park and knows when to remain silent. We were able to spot Leopards, Elephants, Crocodils, Birds, Sambar Deer, the elusive Zibet cat and even the extremely rare sloth Bear.

Great Safari, welcoming People

An efficient, warm, caring and professionally run overnight room and safari package operation that didn't disappoint on any level. From being welcomed with fresh juice on arrival, a gracious owner, to a delicious dinner and prompt early morning departure these hosts do things right. Highly recommend this place for value AND we saw leopards!

03:55 AM muster. Sir! Yes, Sir!

We didn’t stay at Villa Champagne, we only did the safari to Yala:
Tissa is very good at spotting wildlife. Unfortunately, that‘s about the only positive thing I can say about him and his tour.
Not only did he leave the park almost an hour early without talking to us, he was also incredibly rude and unfriendly. He even shouted at me - for being too loud, isn‘t that ironic?
More than that, we had specifically asked for a private tour and he told us it would only be us and him in the car. Instead, he brought two buddies/apprentices (not sure) who on the one hand helped a bit at spotting animals, on the other hand we now had their arms and cameras in front of us when we wanted to take photos - which was exactly what we wanted to avoid by booking a private tour.
Personally, I also didn‘t feel respected as a woman.
In case you decide to book a tour with him: Do not pay him in full in the morning, that way you have more flexibility in case he treats you the same.

Unfriendly & rude

Stayed at villa Champagne, room is spacious and clean. Wouldn’t recommend the safari. The park itself is nice and thanks to our guide we had a clear view on a leopard walking around. Only it felt like a hunt finding the leopard, jeep was driving very fast and in competition with other cars. Driver and guide didn’t explain about the animals, only after asking multiple times.

Nice stay at hotel, safari okay

We had a really good time, staff was very helpful and the safari that they arranged for us was amazing. The food was great and the day we checked out they drove us to the bus station for free. Good sized rooms and perfect location

Two nights and a safari

The relation price/quality is good. The room is ok and it is very close to the center. Mr Tissa was very annoying and was bothering us the whole night because we didn't do the safari with him. His safari was very expensive for us. I would not recommend this place because of the attitude he had with us. Very disappointing guesthouse.

Mijn vriendin en ik hebben 2 nachtjes geslapen in Villa Champagne, in de boomhut. Een erg fijne en rustige plek. De eigenaar is een hele aardige en vriendelijke man, die goed voor zijn gasten zorgt. Ook hebben we een full day safari gedaan. We zagen veel verschillende dieren, groepen olifanten, hele mooie vogels en zelfs een luipaard die een prooi uit een boom greep en opat. Een mooie ervaring. Ik was zo dom om mijn telefoon te verliezen in het safari park. De eigenaar was zo lief om de volgende morgen heel vroeg samen met mij terug te gaan naar het park om te zoeken. Gelukkig hebben we hem kunnen vinden. Een echte aanrader! Volgende keer komen we zeker terug.

My girl friend And I stayed for 2 nights at the beautiful place, Vila Champagne. We slept in a tree house. Really relaxed and quiet. The owner is a nice and honest man, he takes care very well of his guests. We also did a full day safari and it was truly amazing. We saw so many animals. Big groups of elephants, and we even saw a leopard climbing a tree and eat a prey. I was so stupid to lose my phone in the park. The owner was so kind to help me! The next morning the owner and I woke up very early to look for the phone at the park. And guess what? We found it!! He is an amazing and very kind person! We highly recommend this accommodation and next time we definitely come back.

Amazing place with a great owner!

Great place to stay. Brilliant safari from these guys too. Owner is an absolute gentleman. Would definitely recommend staying here. One of our group had a birthday here, the owner went out of his way to organise a surprise cake and balloons. Really nice gesture from him.
