We had a great 3 nights in this somewhat remote location. The Chateau Laffitte has everything you need for a family of 4 but is not luxurious. However, there is a pool. The rain-forest climate seems to involve a few showers every day with sunny intervals between.

Good restaurants are available at hotels in the Soufriere region but the driving on narrow, winding, pot-holed roads can be nerve-wracking. Antonia's cooking is better; I am so glad we pre-ordered dinner from her for our arrival night. Payment is in cash. For breakfast, you can just step outside and pick as many grapefruits and oranges as you need. With bread and cheese from the Massey's grocery store in Soufriere that was a good breakfast.

Be sure to get the farm manager Charles to explain the artisanal cacao production process to you. It is very interesting. It won't be difficult to start him talking.

The hike from the pool through the forest to the top of the ridge was difficult and slippery but quite interesting. Expect to get muddy. Don't expect views.

Stay on a small cacao/fruit/flower farm

One of the best places we have stayed in St Lucia 
What a beautiful villa huge rooms. Four poster beds . There is no air con but it is not really needed to be honest as you are high up and cooler by the trees. I stayed here with my family and had the most wonderful experience. We had food cooked for us on request for next to nothing and the infinity pool was a dream . The decor is quite dated and the facilities but it is forgiven for the outstanding beauty of its location and the attentiveness of the staff on the site. The place is incredible really and perfect for large families and groups. It is definitely recommended that you hire car and visit the supermarket and restaurants in souffuere during the day and you can also pay 50 dollars to visit sugar beach resort which is just a few minutes drive away 
 There are the best restaurants all located within 10 mins drive also. Lasers and hotel chocolate estate.

Beautiful house in the rainforest for a family getaway

We stayed at the La Dauphine Estate for four nights to start our Adventure tour.  We stayed at Chateau Laffitte which is located below the main house.  The main house is also where the pool area is located.  The directions to the estate was spot on from Austin who met us at the airport with our rental car which is part of the Adventure tour.  Austin works for Villa Beach cottages and we met him there a few more times during our stay at Villa Berach later in the week.  He is also the person who can drive you back to the airport or will meet you at the airport to take the car from you.  Austin had called Antonia at La Dauphine to give her an idea of what time we would arrive.  We actually arrived sooner than she had thought.  She gave us a quick tour of Laffitte and than we asked for dinner recommendations.  She recommended Bamboo Restaurant which is located right down the street at the Fond Doux resort.  We also asked if she could make us breakfast in the morning since we did not have a chance to pick any groceries up.  She told us know worries.  Breakfast was good and since no one else was at the place, we had breakfast up by the great house.  Antonia is a lovely lady and really wants to make sure that you are happy and have everything that you need.  Laffitte is a rustic place.  We never did use the kitchen to make any food so we are not sure how well stocked the kitchen was.  The WIFI in the room was great, but since we were the only ones at La Dauphine, we had the wireless system to ourselves.  It was nice having the whole place to ourselves.  The water pressure in the shower is very weak, but we had hot water.  The bed was firm which we liked. The place is also clean, but do expect to see ants and things around which is to be expected since you are in a working plantation. The best thing about La Dauphine is the location and you are actually staying at a working cocoa farm as well as flower farm.  They provide the flowers to Jade Mountain resort as well as Ladera resort.  Charles who manages the plantation is a great guy.  A wealth of information.  His tour of the plantation was worth every minute.  The stories that Charles tells are just great.  He really knows his stuff about cocoa and farming.  La Dauphine is only a few minutes away from Hotel Chocolate which is fantastic.  Take the cocoa tour, well worth the time and money.  We did the tour to table tour where you actually make your own chocolate bar. La Dauphine is also a very short drive to The Sulphur Springs and Tet Paul trail.  You are also only about 5 - 7 minutes away to Soufriere and to the Diamond Botanical Garden and Water Fall.  Also, since you are close to Soufriere, you are also close to Jade Mountain.  You will need to make reservations to be able to get into the restaurant or bar of Jade Mountain.  We learned the hard way and returned to the next day with lunch reservations.  Well worth the cost, just make the time.  The views are speculator. The last comment goes to the security man that is there every night.  His name is George and he is very friendly. All in all, La Dauphine is in the perfect location to start your adventures and the price per night compared to the other resorts is hard to beat.  Just be aware that this is a rustic setting.

Interesting experience with a fantastic location in the rainforest

We began our trip to St Lucia with five days at La Dauphine estate. Charles welcomed us the night we arrived and Antonia visited the next morning to ensure we had everything we needed. The scenery was stunning. High points: swimming in the infinity pool whilst listening to the birds and tree frogs in the rainforest, enjoying a home cooked creole feast courtesy of Antonia and learning about the plantation and the history of St Lucia from
Charles. The nature walk at Tet Paul, the drive in volcano and sulphur baths, and Sugar Beach are all within easy reach of the estate. We will be back.

The perfect retreat

We spent three nights here, as part of their Adventure package (the other 4 nights at Villa Beach Cottages near Castries). What a great way to get a full experience of St. Lucia. 
We stayed at the Great House, an old plantation house dating back to the 19thC, nicely fixed up. It felt like staying in a well loved family home. We were so lucky to have the place to ourselves, although the next booking after us was for a party of 8
The great house has 3 bedrooms, large living, dining and kitchen and full wrap around porch with swing chairs. The pool is 30 ft long, surrounded by local forest and plantation trees
Antonia and Charles took good care of us, and provided lots of local advice . We ordered one of her dine in meals; great cooking with the best Island style fruit cake ever!
We dined out at Le Fond Doux down the road - delicious.  Be warned thought that you need a car to get in groceries, eat out or find a beach. Great access to the Pitons, Yet Paul walk. Worth it though - a relaxing authentic experience. A bit cooler up in the hills, quieter, going to sleep to the sounds of tree frogs. Truly  memorable

Hidden gem, revealing another side of St Lucia

We stayed at La Dauphine as part of the Adventure Package through the Villa Beach Cottages, near Castries.  Its a package that's well worth considering.

After 4 nights at Villa beach, we drove ourselves to La Dauphine and what a difference in environment. 

La Dauphine is a working cocoa plantation that was built in the 1890's, and the original house is simply charming.  It was so quiet and peaceful, with only the sounds of the birds to wake us in the morning.

The pool is very nice, and a great way to beat the heat.  The rooms are quaint, but do make sure to bring bug spray as the sandflies chewed me alive the first night there.

Antonia was super helpful, and made sure that all of our requests were taken care of.

Amazing bit of paradise

I had thought that accommodation in St Lucia is limited to huge resorts run by mega-corporations.  It was a pleasant surprise, therefore, to find La Dauphine Estate – a cocoa plantation with a couple of lovely bungalows available for rent.  The setting is idyllic, with the quaint bungalows surrounded by cocoa plants and other tropical plants.  In location terms, the only downside is the proximity to the road, which is traversed by some noisy vehicles late into the night.

The inside of our bungalow (Chateau Lafitte) was spacious and clean.  The front bedroom is a little small but this was made up for by the huge amounts of space elsewhere.  Whilst at the bungalow, I spent a lot of time sat out on the veranda, enjoying the shaded heat and the sounds of nature. 

The husband of the housekeeper offers a great taxi service and there was never a time when he wasn’t available to ferry us around.  That said, a hire car is certainly recommended for all visitors to La Dauphine for the complete flexibility it offers.  

La Dauphine is well located to give very easy access to the large resorts of Soufriere, including Stonefield, Hotel Chocolat and Sugar Beach.  We got a lot of the benefits of these resorts (views, great dining, special tours) without being limited to just one place and without paying for an expensive room.

Top of the cocoa pops

This property offers an experience that is different from that of a beach resort, yet it is equally spectacular.  The staff, location, and unique property features make it distinctly memorable.  To be situated on a working plantation and witness the procedures of harvesting cocoa pods and the process of fermenting and drying the beans was extremely interesting, as was a tour of the property.  It was also wonderful to just sit by the pool and relax.  The property was clean and well attended to.  This was a return visit...

I have been a regular visitor for over 10 years and never tire of the natural beauty and calm of this serene and welcoming home away from home. Tucked in the heart of a well kept estate, this house is everything a visitor can want with a natural trail, pool, an endless reserve of flora and fruit bearing mature trees. The staff are friendly and welcoming and meet your every need with grace and charm. I will keep coming back with my family who love every minute we spend here.
