The hotel is comfortable and clean (you have to check some details of the bathroom: the seats are moulded, the second roll of toilet paper touches the floor and the shower has a curtain, which is never the ideal in a hotel).The room is very spacious, the bed is comfortable and the decoration is nice (not as much as it seems from the photos).

A normal hotel, with a normal price.

Stayed one night with two friends on our way down to Gothenburg. Host was very friendly, the food was splendid and we lived in the seaside attic room. The rooms were a bit hot (no way to get a draft there) but everything was new and shiny. Really liked it 👍🏻

Nice spot close to Gränna

A quiet and restful place. Very well received by Joakim. We stayed in the new super well-designed cabin with a view of the lake.

Quiet and Lake View

The hotel's location is unique, located right in the middle of the most beautiful Bullerbü Idylle by a very beautiful lake. The charm and effort/charm of the hosts make up many smaller criticisms!! Actually it's not really a hotel but a boarding house plus. We had to set up and furnish the extra beds of the children themselves. The rooms are wonderful romantic, the bathroom was tiny and unfortunately also with dirty fugues. The rooms are not cleaned and cleaned during the stay. The room was equipped with a hearty terrace overlooking the lake.

Wonderful location, friendly host but more boarding than hotel

We made a stopover here on our trip. But Smalandsgarden is also good for a longer stay. The hotel is located by a lake and has its own access to/own dorms. The upper terrace offers a beautiful view of this lake. There we were able to have the very good breakfast and also the dinner. On the evening of our arrival there was fresh grilled and the grill was fired for us a little longer (thank you!).We were not in the main house but in one of the other buildings where you could stay.

Unfortunately, only one night.

Having traveled all over the world and seen all there is of a truly original experience from NYC to Tokyo, i can tell you that leaving this place left me feeling more in touch with Mother Earth and what is important in life. 

I was invited to join a small gathering to try out their recently revived menu, and giving my thoughts. 

I will only shortly touch on the food, as it is in my view secondary to the over all experience. In their effort to build a menu around sustainability and health, their team presented a 8 section service. Each course as delicious and beautiful as the next. It had a very natural flow from course to course. 
All the ingredients was from no more then a few kilometers away, every single detail ingeniously considered to minimize our carbon footprint and off course to delight in our senses.

Sitting there in the middle of nature, and letting all the senses be exposed was more then just a culinary experience. I think everyone should at least give this a try as it shows a whole new way of engaging with the food industry. And that it is possible to be kind to earth and still eat great food! 

I will soon revisit this tiny gem, to find my peaceful spot.

Food for the soul

It's super quiet by the lake. They were in a side building. Nice room, but the bathroom is a stain. Small, with mold, toilet not getting clean anymore. Wash shell with cracks. Staff super friendly. Breakfast is also very delicious. Unfortunately, that doesn't get the rating out.

Great location, great staff, if the bathroom wasn't great.

We enjoyed the picturesque setting and relaxing atmosphere of this somewhat obsolete hotel. Our room was small but functional and comfortable (except for the radiator lit up in August without the possibility of turning it off). The restaurant is very nice but a bit expensive. The outdoor facilities on the lake are really nice. The staff are friendly and welcoming.

Relaxation and romance

This hotel and restaurant would get much higher score if it wasn’t for the awkward service in the restaurant. We stayed in the hotel for 2 nights and we had dinner both nights. 

A first sign of strange attitude was that it became obvious that it ”should seem difficult” to get a table when we had no reservation, and this despite that for the second night, less than half of the tables were occupied. We arrived at 20:00 and the kitchen should close at 21:00. We were the second last to arrive that night so there were at least 10-15 free tables, not reserved by anyone.

Food and drinks were served within a reasonable time, food was tasty and well prepared BUT after this we had no luck no more, the personnel seemed to decide that they had done their part already, not showing up no more.

At the end we were only 2 or 3 tables and there were at least 3 in the personnel walking around doing there stuff, but not once did they pay any attention to us. 

After 20 minutes we had enough and decided to walk up to the bar and pay the check, without having had the chance to order any dessert or coffee that normally would have been our choice if we would have had the privilege of getting just a little bit of attention from someone.

A perfect introduction for a book called  ”How to Waste your Business, Destroying Customer’s Perception by Ignoring Them!”

A pity!



All good except the service in restaurant

There is great water pressure and great hot water.  This is necessary because its rather cool and windy outside and the lake is cold!  There is no air conditioning but we didn't need it because it was so refreshingly cool outside.  Granna with the tourist shops is about 10 k away, but at Smalandsgarden its quiet at night and secluded.  The town is very small.  The breakfast has everything you'd want in a bountiful European breakfast.  The cafe serves free coffee and tea throughout the day, to guests of the hotel.
