You can arrive at a very late hour (entrance with codes), cook your breakfast by ourself (big kitchen), eat it on the sunny terrace. You can also wash your clothes, see the harbour from the room window and learn fish names in Swedish (from rooms names). You can make basic room cleaning by yourself or let it to the staff (for additional fee), although practically you will not see any staff at all (payment either online or in the shop downstairs).
Suming up: you will have a very good stay here if a hostel is where you want to stay.

A genuine, quiet hostel

This hostel is located close to the harbor. After booking, the room key code box and front door will be sent to you via e-mail from the hostel. Gotland active store on the ground floor is, doubles as the reception. there is no staff when the store is closing. As long as you are using the attention to comfort and cleanliness, there is no problem with the common space.

Convenient hostel

I have stayed in Visby Youth hostel twice and both times we were very satisfied. Like many youth hostels in Sweden this one is a cut above what you expect but the prices are also a bit higher, 800 swedish Kroner for a twin room per night. However considering its location close to the harbour, within the old city walls, its modern facilities, and the general high prices on the Island, it is good value.  There´s a very nicely equipped kitchen, with a wooden outdoor terrace to eat your meals on or you can eat in the spacious kitchen. The hostel is only a few years old and its modern with spacious rooms.
I picked this location again as we wanted to explore the Island  more this time but we wanted to be "in town" for the evenings so we could walk the city walls, go out for meals and enjoy a glass of wine without having to drive. The clientel were mixed from young american students to Swedish middle age couples which makes this a place for all ages. The only negative was the cleaning on our second visit, we were there on a holiday weekend and it was busy unfortunately the garbage was not cleared away in the kitchen for 4 days which created some problems for the guests and there were no personnel to speak to. Therefore 4 points and not 5.
