Leon D'Or is a basic hotel, good for budget travelers. The location is convenient; close to the train station and down town. The hotel is clean, quiet and serves a good breakfast. 
The hotel has a small restaurant serving small meals.

Perfect place to stay when traveling on a budget

In Switzerland everything is more expensive than abroad. However the hotel Leon D’Or in Bellinzona is not expensive in fact, is an abuse according to its facilities and maintenance. 
There was dust under the beds.
There wasn’t air conditioning in the room -although this wouldn’t supposed to be in that hotel category-, but a fan. There weren’t bath towels rank nor toilet paper hanger. Nevertheless the worst was the three leafs door shower cabin: there were only two of three, because it was broken. 
The weather was really hot and humid, so one couldn’t sleep with the window closed, and there’s a music bar close to the hotel with people talking noisily until past 1:30 a.m.  Our room‘s window was close to the noisy kitchen smog tube which works from 6:30 a.m. 
We were asked for paying at the check in for two nights stay, breakfast and dinner, in advance, and we did it. Thereafter I asked for the bill and the manager answered it wasn’t fashionable in Switzerland. 
Nevertheless I have to recognize that the staff were pretty kind and attentive, and towels were soft and comfortable.  
We’ve traveled to many places and are able to compare with other lodgings, and don’t have doubts that it has a quality price ratio really poor.

Uncomfortable and expensive 

We had to phone three times before someone would let us in. No one speaks English, however this was easily overcome.  The room faced the main road & while the balcony door was double glazed, it kept out the noise but did not allow for any fresh air.  Heater was full on (outside temp 20C+) & we were advised it couldn’t be adjusted!  This resulted in an uncomfortably hot room.  Room was very basic, tiny shower, linen clean & breakfast adequate - just.

We would not stay here again nor recommend it to friends & family.  Strange place & over priced.

Italian Faulty Towers

If the photos had matched reality, we'd have had a great stay here. Pokey room with minute bathroom recess, heater going full bore (25 outside ) and when you opened the doors to get air, the noise was horrid. The sheet felt and looked like a mattress protector. On the plus side... the towels were soft and fluffy and it was close to the train station. The reception area is not open until the bar opens and you have to call a number which is OK if you have a phone and can speak Italian ( We did and I can). The street seems to be the local race track for the local hoons and they go well into the early hours. A shame really, as it has potential.

If only the photos matched reality

So this was the most expensive €100 I’ve spent in my life. Anybody wanting to stay in this place I suggest you check the room first or check availability at the local hostel.   
We stayed here one night, we payed €100 euros, no breakfast, (thankfully) the room was little more than a dormoratory, in the sense the beds were clearly built for a child. They were no more than two feet wide and 6 feet long. The “and I use the term loosely” bathroom was like a space capsule which absolutely stank of something, I’m not going to even bother to try and find out.
The noise from the road was unbearable which I know isn’t the hotels fault but I’m painting a picture here.
I will never stay at this very over priced “hotel” ever again and would suggest nobody else does either. 
Two nights before I was staying in an amazing hotel in a Village called Tignale Gardola at Lake Garda, we payed €80 euros which included an excellent breakfast, the room was beautiful with a staggering view, incredible cleanliness and wonder staff. To compare the two the Leon d’or should charge €10 a night including breakfast.

Disgusting

From the objectional and surly greeting this was the worst (no cheapest) place we stayed on our 2700 miles trip around Europe. Our room was mainly occupied by a large box containing shower, toilet and sink, all made out of plastic it occupied a quarter of the room. Breakfast was stale croissants and bread, yoghurt pots and old cereal. The hotel is next to a late night bar which is very noisy till the early hours.  The final ignominy was getting stuck in the lift, an event the owner said happened regularly.
The fact it's only 10 min walk to the old town is no saving grace, oh and it has free parking once the staff move their cars as only two slots.

Shame can't give no stars!

Room provided for sure does not sleep four. Bathroom should be a bathroom and not a space cubicle. Breakfast was barely decent. We were give the password wifi then later told that wifi does not work. Enough said.
